Petrus: Those young knights are her old schoolmates. But I'm not sure what to make of them... I'm afraid they may be a bad influence... Nico and Vince: At least we don't die to a fucking pinwheel
The problem with Pinwheel isn't that he's weak, it's that he's supposed to be a starting boss. But since he isn't easy to find and most people don't like going through skeletons, he becomes a somewhat mid game encounter where you're already buffed up and wont have a hard time with him.
@@elock1277 Not necessarily, I guess He's talking about the fact that in DS you can pretty much go anywhere from the start of the game. So with that fact in mind, Pinwheel would be one of the fist bosses you fight if you choose the catacombs at the start (but nobady would do that anymore because you would get stuck with the skelletons and then you would consult a guide). After that is tomb of the giants, and then the golden fog gate would tell the player "fuck off and get the lordvessel" so they get back on track for the bells.
@@elock1277 it supposed the play should down to the catacombs before or after kill the ares demon because when you come back in that time to the firelink sanctuary is when come the partners of petrus a talks about go down and another characters talks about that place.
I probably would've stuck with the plan of doing catacombs first if a holy weapon was an easier thing to get at the start. Since it's not it kinda makes it a temporary no-go area (at least for a player like me who doesn't like to run past things that could sneak up on her later, preferring to wipe stuff out as I go). So yeah the boss difficulty level seems misjudged with the completion method availability for the area. One's tuned to early-game, the other's tuned to early-mid.
@@Torthrodhel thought the same, it's pretty obvious once you enter the catacombs you're not supposed to be there, kinda like when you get to the ghosts in the flooded area. They should have put a holy weapon at the end of the graveyard and put the zweihander somewhere else. Honestly I think the area is easier than the typical beginning route, it's just that the skeletons become overwhelming early game because it takes so long to kill them.
The Catacombs are roughly stat lined to be in league with the Depths, and the first part of Darkroot. Which makes sense as you get the Divine Ember after Moonlight Butterfly. Presumably the "Intended" path is to either hit them before going down to Blightown or after coming back up from it seeing as you meet Rhea and get the Rite of Kindling hinted to you after beating Capra Demon if you don't head straight down.
I love how Lautrec literally just walks away from Pinwheel thinking he is not worth his time. And then all the clones spawn and he dies. If he had just hit pinwheel one more time he would have won ;_;
I think Lautrec was robbed of this victory. Watching the health bar I realized that some of the NPCs had their summon's stats while others had their regular stats. Prime example of this would be Solaire of Astora, who took nearly no damage from Pinwheel, despite his health and armor being comparable to Lautrec's, suggesting that he was actually a white summon. Lautrec is also summonable and I'm pretty confident that if he had the same stats as his summon for Gaping Dragon fight he would've won with ease.
@@moradan81 The thing is, they probably would. You have to remember that Lautrec is meant to challenge the player in a 3 on 1 fight, so his AI aggressiveness seems to be toned down a lot. My guess is that he was strong enough that trying to fight him early on is still hard, and that by the time you would crush him, he has killed the FK and fled, so you have to fight him 1 on 3. Because if you try attacking him in Firelink, you'll notice he's no where near as aggro as the crestfallen warrior
Lautrec's AI is so defensive, he tries to dodge any _action,_ not even attacks; if Pinwheel is jumping, flying, summoning, Lautrec is trying to "dodge" those things instead of attacking, no wonder he lost
The Sif fight was really emotional, she looked scared and confused at first, but then learned how they attack and their trickery and grew confidence and began to take them out.
I think Pinwheel is actually a great boss. You have to look at the context: you fight them after running a long, brutal gauntlet of enemies... or just sprinting past a million guys and taking shortcuts. Either way, a difficult boss would be too punishing in those circumstances. Instead they give you one last relatively easy challenge, but one that keeps you on your toes and forces you to fight instead of run.
@@GazpachoMacho Yeah but Sir Alonne is an optional DLC boss, not a mandatory boss in the main game. Arbitrary punishing difficulty is fine for an optional DLC boss but not always great for a mandatory boss in the main game
@@shinyrayquaza9 lautrec just ran/rolled right up to pinwheel's face, stared him dead in the eye, and did nothing lol you make the call on whether he deserved to win

Seeing how little damage patches does in all souls titles compared to what it feels like when he is actually mad at you...shocking , but i never doubt my boy Andre
I guess a lot of this fight really comes down to how aggressive they are able to be and whether their attack is high enough to finish it off before too many of the phantoms start appearing. After that they really struggle to target the main body and become too defensive to avoid its own projectiles.
It's basically how this fight goes for a newbie player who is underlevel. Doubts and the inability to focus the real one are the only things that can make this challenging, and that is if you don't two shot the thing.
@@crestfallenwarrior5719 Right. Ask for the Chrest of Artorias and go back to Firelink. DON'T go to Andre's basement, there is a Titanite Demon there it will murder you. Once back in Firelink, take the lift and go to the valley of the drakes. Ignore the treasure in front of the dead dragon and it'll leave you alone. Now, stick right and go up a cave, keep going higher until you reach a cross road. Turn right. Continue on the path until you reach a big stone wall. Pinwheel's boss fight is like a shell game, adding fakes and mixing them around as you hunt for the real one. Unfortunately for Pinwheel, Dark Souls lets you play this shell game with a hammer...
@Qalidurut But he is kind of difficult to get to. I mean a new player will get rekt by the skeletons right away will be like "Okay, not this way" :D So putting a really easy boss to a pretty hard area doesnt make sense to me. Pinwheel always felt like lost at least an extra zero of his dmg value and health.
I find Pinwheel to be a hard and fun fight if you fight him with a low damage weapon as then you will have to deal with the clones to that I didn’t even know about until fighting him early game on a new character for extra kindling
@@Debilinside I think pinwheels difficulty is a result of the levels placement. And also probably lore reasons as pinwheel hardly comes off as a great warrior. Being available from firelink shrine they wanted it to be possible to beat him early and don't forget he is actually hard if doing so right away.
a lot of them don't really need to prove anything though, pretty obvious that ones like Havel, Iron Tarkus and Leeroy would win, they are tanks and hit like a truck (almost forgot Siegmeyre). And ones like Qualana and Laurentius have their pyromancy, which are basically nukes.

Pyromancy scales with int and faith in Dark Soul 2 and Dark Souls 3, and they can do a lot of damage with +10 pyro glove and 30 int & 30 faith in Dark Souls 2, but I feel like pyromancy scales in damage a lot slower in Dark Souls 3. Everyone seems to think you need 60 int and faith for pyro builds to do a lot of damage in Dark Souls 3. For casters of any kind in Dark Souls 3 (clerics, sorcerers, hexers even though hexes barely exist in DaS3, and pyros) it seems like people will aim for 60 (int, faith, or both int and faith).
@@watchfulwanderer6443 Definitely.
Quelana was so sick of pinwheel she was like: "ok screw this, firestorm!" And deleted him from the game
11:46 Crestfallen Warrior coming through in the clutch. That was impressive. I thought he was going to die for sure.
He may be crestfallen, but he isn't defenseless.
Out of all the NPCs, Patches is the one who gets the Mask of the Father drop. True daddy material.
He was the only one that looted pinwheel at all lol.
Pinwheel's moon jumps are so entertaining.

I love how Lautrec literally just walks away from Pinwheel thinking he is not worth his time. And then all the clones spawn and he dies.
If he had just hit pinwheel one more time he would have won ;_;
i was so SO disappointed in Lautrec’s performance…
More like he thought the fight was over and walked away and then all the clones spawned xd
@@SoulmongerV2 he just had to literally not just stare at pinwheel's faces at the end D:
Lautrec really... snatched defeat from the hands of victory there.
Laurentius is that chill AF old stoner who one day you discover was in special forces back in Vietnam.
Given Laurentius is a Pyromancer, by osmosis he's learnt all the tricks and skills of people who do SL1 runs.
I hate that I have to lie to him to keep him alive
@@tylerstiles3780 It would be cool if you could teach him pyromancy this time around and maybe even have him as a summon in certain bosses.
I was legit so happy my boy crestfallen made it by an inch of his life
You know. Ingward and Lautrec may have won if they stopped trying to block fireballs with knives
This comment made me think, has anybody plugged a better AI into these characters and tried this? Like, a learning AI?
Well... Fire Keeper from Anor Londo did same, but still won.
Pinwheel: *exists*
Siegmeyer: "And I took that personally"
Thought I'd see more comments on Siegmeyer, pretty sure he took the crown!

Pinwheel: “I don’t want to fight you Andre.”
Andre: “I wouldn’t want to fight me neither.” 🤣
I think Pinwheel is actually a great boss. You have to look at the context: you fight them after running a long, brutal gauntlet of enemies... or just sprinting past a million guys and taking shortcuts. Either way, a difficult boss would be too punishing in those circumstances. Instead they give you one last relatively easy challenge, but one that keeps you on your toes and forces you to fight instead of run.
Fair enough I get where your coming from
Nice thought
Tell that to sir Alone.
@@GazpachoMacho Yeah but Sir Alonne is an optional DLC boss, not a mandatory boss in the main game. Arbitrary punishing difficulty is fine for an optional DLC boss but not always great for a mandatory boss in the main game

I'd like to think that FromSoft purposely made every single NPC that has canonically gotten to the Tomb of the Giants have enough power to kill Pinwheel both gameplay wise and lore wise.

Literally every Pyromancer in the game saw Pinwheel’s slow-ass fireball and was like:
“You call that pyromancy? Here, let me show you pyromancy!”
I guess a lot of this fight really comes down to how aggressive they are able to be and whether their attack is high enough to finish it off before too many of the phantoms start appearing. After that they really struggle to target the main body and become too defensive to avoid its own projectiles.
exept our tanky puppy who doesn't care about puny fireballs
Lautrec did so well too, but he ended up dancing around too much.
It's basically how this fight goes for a newbie player who is underlevel. Doubts and the inability to focus the real one are the only things that can make this challenging, and that is if you don't two shot the thing.

I love how Pinwheel is one of the easiest bosses in the game and Petrus barely dented his health, even though Petrus hit Pinwheel like eight times.
Andre really made pinwheel fall down
He's really asserting his dominance
I’ve NEVER heard his theme for long enough to recognize it until now lol
Maybe pinwheel is FromSoft apologizing about the actual boss of the area, the bone wheel pit.

@@orgastrange5861 Lmao. She's insanely powerful. Also pyromancies in general are so strong in Dark Souls 1.
I love doing pyromancer builds in Dark Souls (not just Dark Souls 1, but all three Dark Souls games). I think Pyro builds are the most fun in Dark Souls 2, but arguably the most powerful in Dark Souls 1. Pyros can be fun in Dark Souls 3 but sadly they're never super powerful from my experiences.
@@Knight_Of_Eleum_Loyce it helps that all the pyromancy teachers are good people.
@@watchfulwanderer6443 Definitely.
