    More gorgeousness with the merino silk! I started spinning one of the rolags on my Snyder Turkish spindle. It’s my first time spinning from a rolag. I love how easily it drafts, and the colors are so making me happy. I am definitely spinning happy! harpingJanet

      That is awesome! Send me some pics! I would love to see how you spin it! I also love Turkish spindles! Each one is a little work of art! It makes me happy to know you are spinning happy!

    This was very helpful for me. I’ve tried to spin from the fold before, but gotten frustrated and moved on to something easier/ more enjoyable. I’m going to give it another go, and I have the perfect top to try it with. Thanks Kirsten!

    Thank you so much for talking through your thought process and wheel adjustments to get the yarn you want! It's so helpful to see, hear, and have clear examples of all of these techniques!
    I'm also super grateful for your example about how to spin this type of roving. I have some that is very similar and when I started experimenting with it, it got so muddied. I think I'll give this method a try ;)

      Thanks Joan! I need to get together with you for some weaving! I have had the worst case of laryngitis all week. I am thinking after sheep and wool. BTW, are you going?

      @@jkfiberarts I’m hoping to- a dear high school friend is coming to MD all the way from Buffalo to visit her daughter. We were thinking of meeting up probably on the Saturday. Hope you’re feeling better!!! Maybe a silent video and give your poor voice a rest!!

    Thank you sooo much for actually talking about the twist angles and what you want vs what you don’t! I’m a scientify new spinner and I’m constantly trying to find that kind of detail and very rarely do people talk about those details. You’re pretty awesome!!! I enjoy your videos quite a lot.💜
    Do you think you could share some information about affecting grist? I’m ending up with a much “heavier” yarn than the gauge (wpi) says I should have, so my yardage is unexpectedly short for the weight of fiber used. I have researched and can’t find information about affecting grist one way or another. Thank you so much for your videos!

      I have a whole big boring video on grist. Actually, I did 2. I single handedly glazed over the eyes of the RUclips collective! 🤣🤣 I am in the sciences too. You may want to get a McMoran Yarn Balance. Spin a sample and go from there. I have a video on that too! If you really want to know all there is to know about grist I would recommend Alden Amos Big Book of Handspinning. I still reference it frequently. Spin Happy!

      @@jkfiberarts Since the Big Book is $100 I’m wondering before I buy, does he go into how to affect changes to your grist? I totally get how to calculate it, I’m trying to figure out how to change it as my yarn is coming out too heavy, ie I’m not getting enough yardage per weight of fiber. I rewatched your videos but I’m still searching for answers.😃 Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  3 месяца назад +3

      @@mauryamm2154 the grist is different for every fiber. The best way to figure out your grist is to spin a sample “x” inches long in your finished Ply WPI then weigh it. You can extrapolate for each fiber. If you are talking about yarn density. That is affected by your twist.s per inch, “TPI” which is proportional to your angle of ply. The higher your ply angle, and the more twist in your single, the firmer the yarn will be, thus affecting your grist. I don’t have time tonight but I will look up the chapter on grist and see if it has more info.

    Where is the fibre from please?challenging to get the same range in the UK.

      Camajfiberarts.com, I think she gets a lot of her fiber from World of Wool in the UK. You can make your own custom blends there if you are ordering large quantities.

      I just received a big order from them and got a couple of pounds of a blend called toasted blueberry muffin that was a custom blend from a weaving company and it is divine! I bet you would love it!
