    Yes! I did find something useful! I think your description of what your left hand is doing while chain plying is the light bulb moment for me. I can’t wait to try. Thank you so much. Pretty colors. Unusual combo and pleasing to my eyes.

    Thanks for a really clear and useful video for me. I loved how you preserved the nature and colour of those delicious yarns. I knew your techniques but somehow you solved what I will do with some of my stash!

    I really appreciated seeing your method of spinning from the fold. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet but I like the idea of not leaving my finger inside, I think that throws me off. Plus I've always used fiber I had broken down into strips but having a larger piece makes more sense.

    Enjoyed this video so much. Your finished yarn is just beautiful.
    I’ve had a few goes at chain plying but never mastered it.
    I’ll save this video to watch again later when I’m ready to give chain plying another try. Thank you!

    I don't think I'd be fast enough for that, it looks fascinating, I can see e getting into a really big mess. Like when I first did a 2 ply just last week. I will give it a go one day. Thanks

    I just found your channel and love your videos!!!!!!! They seem to somehow fit perfectly into what I've been looking for! So many different topics - I'm going to watch them all!
    I've just picked up spinning again after about 30 years off and I just bought a beautiful bat at the Michigan Fiber Festival. This particular video helped in another project - I bought some beautiful combed top with gorgeous fall colors blended in it but the colors are in very small bits. As I spin normally, the single is pretty but not as pretty as the colors I see in the top so I think spinning it from the fold might give me a much prettier yarn! Thank you so much!

    I impulse bought this same blend so this was pretty exciting to watch! I feel very inspired now. I mostly drop spindle but I bought an EEW Nano and am trying to pick my first project on it (maybe I will pick a less exotic fibre that I don't mind so much if it's a flop to get used to the new equipment). I'm exited to try spinning from the fold. Thanks for all your great videos! I really enjoy them as I get started with this new hobby.

      That’s great! I have a Nano too. It was how I dipped my toe into espinner. I am really happy I got the 6.0. Spinning from the fold will get easier with practice. Enjoy!

      Thank you for your kind words! You may not have to dream too much longer. I am drowning in yarn and I can’t finish projects fast enough. I just purchased a domain and will hopefully put some of my yarns and art batts up for sale. I want to test spin everything first to make sure they are totally awesome before I sell them, and I have a day job, so it takes me a bit to bring my ideas into reality, but I will get there! Thank you for watching!

    Hi Kirsten, I hope you're all OK xx ❣️❣️❣️❣️
    Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast.
    The colours of your Fibre Blend is amazing. I love how you managed to keep the colour progression by Spinning from the Fold and the finished Chain Plyed Handspun Yarn also looks amazing.
    Thanks for sharing about the Pineapple Fibre, Spinning from the Fold and Pineapple Fibre are 2 things I've not yet tried. Thanks for the inspiration to try something different.
    I love the Best Puncture story. 🚲🚲
    It sounds like something that someone would plan in a Movie or at least a Plot in a Story, with the way your Cycle Ride went. Sounds like you and the small boy had a good time Spinning together. 🎡🎡

    When I tried spinning fold I end up with shorter fibres left in the hand. Have you any tips to be able to spin to the end of the fibre in your hand and not be left with ever shorter fibre left? Any help would be very much appreciated.

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  2 месяца назад

      You are likely holding the fiber in your palm too tight. If you hold it too tight the fibers can’t draft out and you get left with a clump at the end.

  • @gayleandrus8920
    @gayleandrus8920 3 месяца назад

    Every so often you wrap your left middle digit of the fiber/drafting hand around the fiber. Is that to stop the twist going into the fold supply so you can add twist or single? Or to apply tension so you can lengthen between your hands to draft out slubs? Or a combo? Or another reason totally?
    Thanks for the video!

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for watching! I do that to take thin out a thick spot in the fiber and keep the single consistent. Imagine it like a mini park and draft. It is a technique I learned for spinning cotton on my charkha, and I find it translates well to my wheel spinning, especially if I have something that doesn’t draft as smoothly as I would like, or if a pull too much fiber out of my drafting triangle.

      This is a largely 3-D printed Auto Level Winder from Level Winding Systems. I have been using it for a couple of years and love it. They do not have available for every wheel type, but they have many brands available. I keep hoping they will add Kromski Minstrel! I only have it for my Sonata jumbo flyer. Richard’s customer service is the best I have ever seen. He even FaceTimed me while he was in a hurricane to help me trouble shoot a problem and he solved it in 3 minutes!! myautowinder.com/
