Jay is such a likable dude... and the way he casually talks about having spent 20 years in the GWOT, most of them in SF, is mind-blowing.. He literally spent his entire adult life overseas in harm's way.. Obviously he's going to possess a wealth of knowledge, and so he's doing the right thing in dedicating his current time to passing along that experience and wisdom to the younger generations considering a career in the military, especially those with an eye on Special Operations. Thanks for this one, Ryan..
As an Army transporter, those were some rough times back in 03-04. I got to Kuwait Jan 03...just chilling in the desert thinking we werent gling to war. I remember talking to some Navy Seabees at Camp Breach point west, they kept telling me we going to war...and they gonna be the first ones though the berm...well 3 weeks later boom.....and im on a convoy to Iraq supporting the British on the 3rd day of the war. 20 and done, but i do miss it.
Dude he looks no older than 25 😂 when I heard him say he was in Afghanistan in the early stages I was really confused he probably looked sooo young back than. He definitely got fucked with bc he looks so young
Lol. My man does look young…especially compared to a 46 year old cajun that’s been drinking and smoking for 25 years. Great story tho! My hats off to you sir! Cheers!🍻
Ryan, it is literally impossible to overstate how good of an interviewer you are man. You and dudes like Shawn Ryan have such a knack for good interviewing… Thank you for choosing this outlet and the outstanding interviews.
@@johnotruba3507 Given the current political climate, there are going to be people listening who wonder, and did you not pick up on the fact that he has had people ask him directly because they are looking to go into the military and want to know? Surprising to hear a combat engineer go SF. Every one i ever met always told me they are 'basically infantry' or 'pretty much rangers' every time i meet one.
When he was talking about picking up body parts of his friends I can relate. In 1996 I was with 1/8 infantry battalion. I remember 2/8 was one of our sister battalion and they was doing work ups for an upcoming deployment. During an exercise called Operation Purple Star we had two helicopters collide over a LZ and killed 18 Marines. I remember helping secure that site and putting body parts in bags. The smell is something I will never forget and still have problems to this day with all that.
Omg. Him having to pick up his friends body parts was so sad 😢 I am so glad he is not so messed up in the head. God bless all of the soldiers who went through things like that 🙏 go out to all of you. And thank you all for your service of keeping us safe.
I wish that I could triple like this episode. I absolutely love the story of immigrants that come to the U.S. and serve valiantly after seeing what our country provides people in terms of opportunities.
Jay is simply THE MAN!!! I've been a subscriber to Green Beret Chronicles for a while now and I cannot wait to listen to this episode over and over again!!! 🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
Great video Jay and Ryan! One of the best so far. I really enjoy when the interviewer does less questioning and the interviewee fills the interview seamlessly.
Ryan thank you for these awesome stories I've watched 5 so far and I'm really enjoying your channel I subscribed and looking forward to more of them. God bless you and your family. And thank you for your service of keeping us safe.
Ironic how legal immigrants THRIVE here in the USA. Yet, somehow there are so many kids and adults who are still acting like kids blame "The system" for their own weakness and failures. Thankyou for serving and being a fine ecample of being an American!
Jay & his family are a perfect example of why LEGAL immigration makes the U.S. a better place- he came in the right way, learned the language, assimilated and fought for our country. That’s what it means to be an American.
This is history. United States history. People need to learn about it, and they need to stop teaching lies magnifying the worst part our history. Thank you for your service guys
Could you imagine being told your son or father died in combat, he was wounded or shot but no details. Then some dude gets on RUclips names the dude and explains exactly how he died...
I tell you what every time I freaking hear about the regular army guys and what they had to do. It really p***** me off. They had those kids driving around the im routes daily. Playing into the one way that the enemy could really take it to us And that's with IEDs. We basically fought that war as stupidly as we could. RLTW 3/75
Neil Luangamath that MFCK needs to be in this show he’s a 18B ex SF went to Europe and Afghanistan and killed people after 9/11 to catch osama bin Laden he has level 4 PTSD inspired me to join…
Haiti is similar to Africa because it's full of africans, you can see the same with the 13% in the US (and now Europe since 2015) who dominate violent crime including "gun violence" and sexual assault, has nothing to do with "socio economic factors", it's all racial as in based on evolution. Race is real.
Immediately struck that, as an immigrant, his verbal skills are so cogent. Puts so many generational Americans to shame ....well it should. Very impressed!
@@ivicamilosavljevic4706You sound like many Americans. Many are looking back at our response to the 9/11 attacks and wonder if we could have done things differently.
I was at FOB TK from 09-10. I worked the little Airfield and supported some SF guys downloading planes. I remember I was on the SF compound and I heard some wild stuff over that radio. 😳
Was civilian at SOTF-SE Ripley w/ newly stood up 4th battalion 3rd group. Fantastic men. Even then Col Don Bolduc. Everyone terrified every time he came. Except me. Flicked crap at him like everyone did in his absence. 😂😂😂
Couple things. Accurate on the HLZ but it was marked by said source Was not a 16 Hour firefight. Yes was a lo g ass day but maybe lasted 5-6 hours till we started dropping buildings then it was over This didn't happen everyday for 7 days. The fight was the first day and we were there for 5. The EKIA was far more than that and there was a CDO killed the 3rd day in with a team landing on a hot HLZ.
First time on here. Great content, thanks. Also, didn't know Trent Reznor had served as well as having his band Nine Inch Nails and composing Oscar winning Soundtracks 😉
It’s a shame so many Americans don’t have the view of naturalized citizens, who are thankful. We all know what side of the culture war the ungrateful purple hairs are on.
What a good person. The military is always an option for those willing to work hard. There is something the US military does consistently and is glaringly obvious to anyone watching the war footage in Ukraine. We do everything we can to bring our dead and wounded out of the battlefield. In the Russian army its every man for himself. Their dead and wounded are left behind in large numbers.
I literally just met Jay today at a Mall and shook his hand…Cool dude indeed…

I was a 12B in Iraq in 03-04 before I had the opportunity to reclass to 11B. That experience sounds very familiar. Great interview with Jay!
