Dillon Behr is a former US Army Green Beret. He is a veteran of both the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars. He received the Silver Star for his actions in Afghanistan at the Battle of Shok Valley.
Silver Star Citation:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Dillon L. Behr, United States Army, for exceptionally valorous conduct in the face of the enemy of the United States as Communications Sergeant, Operational Detachment Alpha 3336 (ODA-3336), 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne), Special Operations Task Force - 33, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM on 6 April 2008. Sergeant Behr heroically distinguished himself during a combined raid against a High Value Target while combat advising the Afghan Commandos in Shok Valley, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan. Sergeant Behr was serving as the Detachment Commander's radio operator. While he climbed a 60-foot near vertical cliff with a rucksack weighing more than 60 pounds, Insurgent forces initiated an unprecedented volume of coordinated sniper, machine gun, and Rocket Propelled Grenade fire from the surrounding high ground. Within seconds several Commandos were wounded, and an interpreter was killed. With total disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Behr held his position as bullets impacted within inches of him, even after sustaining a life-threatening wound to his leg. Sergeant Behr courageously continued to engage multiple Insurgent fighting positions despite being critically wounded a second time. Sergeant Behr's suppressive fire allowed wounded US and Afghan Soldiers to be evacuated to covered positions. Throughout the duration of the six and a half hour battle, Sergeant Behr continued to fight and kill the enemy, until he was physically incapable of holding his weapon. His absolute refusal to quit and poise under fire was a testament to his bravery, inspiring the other members of the patrol to fight on. Sergeant Behr's actions allowed US and Afghan Soldiers to move to covered positions and undoubtedly saved countless lives. His actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflect distinct credit upon himself, Special Operations Task Force - 33, the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Afghanistan, Special Operations Command Central, and the United States Army.

A humble, likable guy. And like a poised leopard. Mr. Behr exudes focus, intelligence and strength. A pleasure to watch his interview and much, much less so to oppose him in battle.
Thank you, sir, and all our military, for your courageous service.

It speaks volumes to Dillon Behr's character that you can look at him and actually see how humble he is. "What does a humble person look like?"
Me: "He looks like Dillon Behr." Thank you for your service, my man. You have done your buddies, the military and your country proud.
Dillon, respect. My generation is still mourning the MIA Green Berets in Cambodia and Laos😔

I haven't served in the U.S. Military; served 12 years in the British Army in the 70s and 80s, but I have watched several of these interviews with Veterans from Vietnam thru to Afghanistan and there seems to be one underlying annoying/depressing feature, which is that they were consistently being badly let down (to put it politely) by the higher-ups, meaning anything from their commanders to those in the Pentagon... my total respect to them.

The audio of the interviewer is way too low.

Thank you brother.
Thank you sir for your service. I don't know if you went to Rocky or Alleman. The QCA is very proud of you. Thank you again from a '72 Pioneer.
It angers me to see our military degraded/sacrificed for questionable deployments. These kind of men are the real hope for America.
Perhaps the real hope for America are people and the few politicians who don't believe in an imperialist- take your resource foreign policy. Yes I'm glad this man is on our side. No I don't believe there was ever a good reason he left our shores.
i guess I'm kind of randomly asking but do anybody know a good site to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Maximilian Kaysen Try flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
I believe it’s all about perspective. Many discount what we did or say it was for wrong reasons but I never felt those feelings, ever. Most of the men I served with feel the same. It’s a small percentage that discount what did or say we were puppets for the rich and powerful. We killed captured evil people and helped rebuild and secure the countries we were in. There’s no denying that.
Well recruits are drying up for America's woke military...they no longer have enough people enlisting to meet the militaries manpower needs... GOOD starve the beast.
I don't know what to say, it's said a million times, but thank you for you and your fellow warriors sacrifice we love you all for the freedom you've given us.
Pains me to say this but I wouldn’t call it giving us freedom. If anything we are less free. Going into Afghanistan created the hotbed of international terrorism we have today. The biggest weapon used against us is fear, by both the friend and the enemy.
American soldiers put all they have on the line!!! They deserve our respect!!! They deserve our help too!!!

Im awestruck by the intelligence of a commander that would sent a small team into a fight, enemy entrneched, while the team had to climb up a mountain with the enemy knowing they are coming. Id like to talk to that man. He wont be hard to find, he will be the one with shi+ all over his head from having it up his ass.
Biggest regret was not waiting until I had the opportunity to try out for SF. I joined artillery, hated it, missed everything meaningful to babysit an SPG and do boot things for my entire stay. Took 10 years to stop hating myself for not making it to the Middle East. Looking back, hearing these stories, I'm glad I didn't.
Says you needed to pass the physical fitness test BEFORE even joining the army....refers to it as being in "decent shape".... UNDERSTATEMENT 💯

That's what gets most people in the military is that DAMN RUN it used to be 3 miles (timed) in the USMC and 2 in the Army!
You just have to be motivated, condition, and train. Anything under 5 miles is workable. It's not like they are making them run a marathon.
Thank you my Beautiful American Brother for Standing up for Us and Our Country and Our Heavenly Father and Mother... You have put your life on the line many times a Brave Team Of Men and Women...... Love Always be careful and please make it back home...

The Mississippi River ain’t a safe place for being in! I’ve never watched water currents, do what this river does! Terrified and amazed in the same breath! I’m in Louisiana, so, I’m on the low end of the river.
great military strategy. Climb up a mountain with no cover. No air support. Sounds like some of the battles in the civil war. Captain: "Men, I want you to march across that field in full view of the enemy, with all their weapons trained on you, and kick their as." Yes Sir!
That mission sounds like being punkd. But they dropped 150 out of 200 enemy. How many did the SF lose?
They need to work on the authors mic cuz we can't hear him

Astronaut Jonny Kim should do one on his Silver Star. After they came under attack, an Iraqi soldier was shot. His Iraqi comrades abandoned him, then he ran through a barrage of gunfire with bullets punching the ground by his feet to reach him, dragged him back, then treated him, but he succumbed to his wounds. A teammate said he succumbed to his wounds. Another Iraqi was shot in the head, then he exposed himself again, pulled him in, then saved him and organized the evacuation effort for the wounded men.
Your audio is not working good. Can't hear a word the interviewer is saying.
Humble good dude. Much respect and I’m very greatful for what u did, it is very appreciated. I wish all the time that I also served then I at the same time I’m glad I didn’t. I have close friends and family members who did so, ya.. but anyway, thank you my brother, much love. God bless hommie.
Vn era dv, and will do all necessary to protect our Country from domestic and foreign terrorism! There may be snow on the roof, but 🔥 fire in the furnace brother vets and civilians! God bless America! Hooyah All Americans! USN 1775.
Imagine these soldiers did all of this and made big boy decisions when they were 18-24 years old. I can't imagine myself at 24 making those life or death decisions. I mean personally I made poor decisions from 18-28 usually leading to the possibility of death, and I wasn't in a war zone, I was in first world comfort.
I just found this channel about 4 days ago and have been binge watching. I'm a veteran as well but could not even fathom what any of these warriors have faced. I just want to say one thing and that is, are ANY of the interviewers veterans? I only ask that because they always ask that one question and always get the same answer....I don't know of any veteran worth their salt that would respond with, "I'm proud of what I did", etc. PLEASE stop asking that question! To this day I hate it when someone says, "Thank you for your service" and not once have I ever used my "military discount". That's not what any soldier does it for. While I and I'm sure many of the interviewees appreciate it, it's just awkward and takes us to a place....
Great interview!
I like this channel but the volume is a bit low. I have to turn volume all the way up when listening in car

My deepest respect to you, sir. Honored to be an American and represent the same flag.
what an amazing story and an amazing individual. thank you.
For those who didn’t serve in those countries to have their own experiences to fall on, don’t take this man’s words to heart. I’ve never met anyone who said the Afghanistan people appreciated our presence more than Iraq or that the Afghan mission was more meaningful. 90% of the Iraqis wanted us there, didn’t want Sadaam in power, and wanted the evil jihadist out of their country. We took out sadaams regime, and helped them rebuild a better government, and got rid of the ISIS and AlQaida in Iraq. Afghan was years of trying to get rid of Al qaida and the taliban, who are still
There to this day. He must not have done much in Iraq to see the good we did there.
Mr L I don’t even think u ever served so pipe it down.
you set up a better government? uhhhh
@@leeonardodienfield402 I meant the US as a whole helped them establish a better government. Do they not have a functioning government?
@@LP3me It's much worse than when we got there. US presence created more extremists.
@@leeonardodienfield402 that’s accurate. We made people fight that could have been just defending themselves and grew a hatred to the US for occupying their country. But overall we helped them in the long run. Think about this , we captured sadaam and he was ordered to be executed by his own country. He committed crimes that shouldn’t have allowed him to remain leader of Iraq. Is it our place to go there and play world police. No, but I do think it helped America and it’s Allie’s in the long run. Maybe I’m biased to my view and experiences.
Always so sad to see these young men, having to do such horrible things for nothing, nothing has been bettered anywhere we’ve been recently, and all it has achieved is the enrichment of billionaires and the ruining of millions of lives.
Seems like a really good guy 👍
Thank you Sir for your service! Even though those words dont seem adequate enough...thank you!
Wonder how he feels as of August 20, 2021
Dude I’m from rock island much respect 😤
The audio of the veteran is excellent but the interviewer sounds like he is the length of a football field away when asking his questions. It is very important to check the audio at the beginning of an important interview to ensure the audio is clear for both individuals. This seems to be a consistent occurrence with this interviewer….please correct this in future interviews….Thank You !!
So let’s have an operation that takes the most highly skilled warriors we’ve got, and send them into an impossible situation, where they are outnumbered, and the enemy has the Highground and all of the cover. Does that make any sense to anyone? Instead, wouldn’t it be a lot smarter to figure out how the people on top of that mountain are getting supplies, and wouldn’t it be smarter to either follow the supply line up, or to shut off their supplies? It is just a non-bearable shame to me that our civilian leader ship is so despicably bad as to foster the kind of military leader ship that sends young brave, talented skillful warriors, who have sacrificed so much just to get to where they are into this kind of crap storm.
command put them in a horrible position, they knew they were in a bad position

It’s funny I had my left hip replaced in 13 but hurt it in Afghanistan in 09 but my story is week I was 39 at the time and I already had arthritis in my hip I just didn’t know I did I had some pain but you always have pain . I had to clear a wall to get into a compound and hurt it coming down I punched the ball n moved it up now that hurt but nothing like being shot .
