" I can't thank enough for what the Malaysian did that night and I can't thank them enough for their courage". Thank you very much Major Jeff Struecker for acknowledging, gratefulness and high respect towards the bravery and dedication of our pride, the Malaysian Army / Warriors rising to the occasion on that day and which was sadly not mentioned in the Black Hawk Down movie. Your statements means a lot to all our Malaysian Army/Warriors especially one fallen Corporal Mat Aznan Awang and his family. You are a true gentleman and officer Major Jeff Struecker. Salute. Please come visit us in Malaysia.
the Malaysian's contributions to the BHD were substantial, and Mr. Strueker mentions them in solid regard. There are two scenes in the movie in which a Malaysian solider displays his authority as APC driver, Ewan McGregor's character SGT Grimes barks at him to start driving immediately ("these vehicles are a bullet magnet, let's go!!"). The Malay soldier barks back, "We go when i'm ordered to, soldier!!" A few scenes later, during the final escape from the city, some impatient Rangers insist on jumping into the already-packed APC, and he tells them authoritatively, "No room, go on the roof!!" So i guess this was the director's way of implying the Malaysians had some sweat in the game. It would have been cool to see one or two brief scenes of Malaysian soldiers participating in the battle, like, say, firing their rifles. But we got what we got in BHD.
They couldn't have done it without your guys help and you should be proud. Standing defiant in the face of death to help out another human is the definition of bravery.

Wow. What an amazing story of courage and dedication to service, both as a Christian and also as a dedicated Army Ranger. I think it is especially important to talk to audiences that have no real knowledge of the military and what they do, and how much of their lives is given to their country.
Yeah, that's why them Rangers had to call Pakistan for the rescue, you should be thanking them and not your rangers or yourself being a Christian lol, Muslims saved you out of Somalia.
@@wacayssuleyman2380 - You didn't pay attention. They do say studying the Quran clouds your brain. He says the Pakistanis, even though they were in tanks, RAN AWAY AT THE FIRST SOUND OF GUNFIRE. Re-watch it. The Malaysians, also Muslims, in armored personnel carriers, did stay through the night of the firefight, but the Americans did 98% of the fighting.
Muslim fighters also excel at killing unarmed women and children.

My dad was in in the early 80s, left to become a pastor, and re-upped after 9/11, serving 3 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army Chaplain. I remember him mentioning he met 'some of the guys that were there' as we watched Black Hawk Down. It's amazing to hear peoples stories and what they faced to protect the men next to them!
This guy has seen it all. What stories he has told. Amazing human!

you'd think that exposed machine gunners would have heavy face covering helmets that stop normal rifle rounds instead of being an easy kill shot through the face/dome.

I had the opportunity to train with the Rangers in Fort Lewis circa 1977. I was a 20 year old rifleman who though he knew a thing or two. After two weeks with the Rangers, I realized that I had much to learn and these "Quiet Professionals" were the finest soldiers I had ever met. Major Struecker is a perfect example of that professionalism.
I want this person to be my president . Or any man he thinks that should run the show. Most democratic or even communist military heads don't want war. They know what and war is death to everyone. Many Somalis were very thankful and appreciative of the USA peace efforts in helping the suffering Somalis. Many Somalis opposed the warlord named Aidid who's militia were responsible for dragging USA troops in the streets of Mogadishu. The USA soldiers would even admit that Somalis were very generous and welcoming to them. You cant generalize all Somalis for what one warlord did. The vast majority of Somalis opposed warlord aidid. The USA covered up a civilian massacre that killed over 200 people. This made many Somalis who opposed aidid support him. Many angry mobs were mad about the USA bombing a building were clan elders discussed a peace initiative and ways for warlord aidid to pursue peace with the USA. When the USA bombed that building and killed over 200 people, many Somalis turned against the USA.
