I have Never met or seen an ex-Delta Force guy that was anything but very humble and genuine. Not to mention extremely intelligent. Definitely no "macho" BS.
Just about every guy I know that rolls in those groups is pretty similar. I always thought it was a lot like living moh recipients when you talk with them. Those guys all have a humble and talk about the real heros are their buddies that were lost and injured in the events that led to the medal. If you didnt know better talking to either group, youd never know they are some of the most impressive warriors and people in us history.
Operators define exceptionalism and I am humbled and so grateful for guys like Zack Harrison. Being able to dispatch, engage, and do business with an almost administrative professionalism , and be so humble, generous, and self-sacrificing is inspiring in a way that I can't quite discribe. Thank you. Thank you.
It's because they know their success is not due to them purely, but due to the training, fellow teammates and the vast support staff taking care of you,,
Lions of Kandahar is a great book to read about operation Medusa and what Zach did during that. Major op that went super south for the Canadians. They had to endure the huge number of taliban and also a green on green incident from air support.
Love what this guy has to say about leadership. Dealing with a similar situation at work with a colleague who thinks trashing people’s abilities is the way to motivate. I feel it’s my role as a leader to help people unleash their talent, even if it may not be at the level I’d like.
it's so refreshing to hear an Army guy not be toxic and talk shit about Navy SEALs. These guys are supposed to be on the same team regardless of what branch they're in. Some of these Army guys on the internet like Nicholas Irving are simply no good at all and they make real Army Operators like Zack, look bad.
Dude I have only listened to a few but I really like your insight as an interviewer, and love Zack, good to have a Tier 1 guy who knows he's human and isn't afraid to admit it.
Thank you for doing these interviews. So many times these things are lost to history and now it is captured. These people and these moments matter, and you should feel proud for both being a part of them when you served and now being a part of the historical record. Thank you!!
Ryan, I just wanted to say thank you for these interviews. You ask all the questions I have on my mind when you have guest like this. You ask and let them reply; I could listen to these stories all day long. You hear so much of it in the general media but nothing this deep and personal.
I was in Iraq for 7 yrs and Afghanistan for 1 yr. While I was at anaconda/Balad Iraq a convoy that was outside the wire came under attack the convoy had a lot of KBR civilians. After being under attack the national guard who have no business being deployed in combat zones, poorly trained. They abandoned the convoy, just left them there. Delta had a camp in anaconda and they were sent on a suicide mission to rescue the convoy and they did. You never hear about delta and their missions. They are America's best. Sent often on suicide missions where their chance for survival is slim. They are a step above seals and the green beret. The elite and bravest soldiers you will ever meet. They started using marines to escort convoys. Marines would never abandon a convoy. Anyway if you are in a hopeless situation outside the wire if delta is available they will be sent to get you. It's just the way it is you never hear about delta and even their camp has national guard people at the entry points of camp, when you say the national guard people no one ever knew that it was a delta camp. Hardest camp to enter, you had to wait for a colonel to escort you to the camp. They have what ever they want, alcohol, girls, 4 wheelers, cars, what ever money can buy. They kept delta in the camp, some wearing hawaiman shirts and beards. You would never guess they were delta members. Girls and alcohol not allowed in Iraq, delta got what ever they wanted. They deserved it. The next mission they go on can be their last. You never appreciate them until they rescue you from certain death. They had navy seals on the base also, they had to dress in uniform. I worked in both camps and to include marine camps a lot in Afghanistan. The best is delta. The green berets were the best at getting parts that were impossible to get I worked on their air conditioning units in Afghanistan and the green berets are good people and master at getting things done. Best over all guys I feel are the US Marines. Biggest cry babies are the navy, they wanted new air conditioners not repaired and they would cry like babies till they got them. The marines were happy for just having someone fix their air conditioning units. The marines are brave and never abandoned a convoy. Good people and soldiers. I would rate like this. Delta are great for rescue missions and to make a bad guy disappear. Seals are good if delta is not available. After delta the green beret I would rate no:2 for there outstanding logistics ability, they know how to make things happen. No:3 is the marines, guys who you can depend on that they will have your back. So the seals are about 1.5 behind delta and a little above green berets. Myself personally if I was stranded in another country and I had to be returned to USA I would pick the green berets all day long. Get me out of the jungle and returned to a local base delta of course. For a drinking buddy a US marine. Sorry but I'm not a big fan of the Navy. I use to be in the US Army 11b10 straight leg infantry back when dinasours roamed the planet. I'm old now. Amazing how the marines can travel on the same ships as the navy and not have the crappy entitlement attitude of the Navy. Reason is simple the marines have excellent gunney Sargent's who don't put up with BS. Hand down the best soldier in the military is the US Marines. In Iraq I went to one marine camp and the hescos were so tight I could not get a condensing unit in there. Went to a gunny sgt with my problem, he politely said not a problem he called a bunch of guys over and the carried the condenser over the hescos. No one complained. Great bunch of guys. Have no comment on the air force except they would steal the parts we needed in the army, once the supply planes came in the air force had their pick over everyone else. 1 time I needed a special part to fix the top brass air conditioning unit. Had no part he called the air force and sent me to their supply warehouse. I was shocked they had more parts than home Depot. Had air con parts, electrical, plumbing and carpentry and many more. Air force does it right :) never fix anything at their camp they had their own repair people.
Thank you Combat Story... Next to Sheriff of Baghdad and Combat Story Legend John "Shrek" McPhee, Zack Harrison is easily my second favorite interview you've ever done. It's men like Zack who make the U.S. Military great. So humble, well-spoken and deeply insightful. Thank you, Zack. Thank you, Combat Story.
What a great conversation yet again. Really helps to emphasize the importance of humility and openness to learn. As Pete Blaber (one of my personal favorites) said “everyone is new to right now” so we can use all the help we can get.
It’s a running thread from my years of reading. .. blows my mind … the ones who wanted to melt away into the mountains of Pakistan, living the corpse of who they hunted with the northern alliance l; never having anyone the wiser
I can say that he’s 1000% right. Bottling up and not talking about whatever it may be, if it’s a personal tragedy, will come back and cause problems down the line. Especially if you pour booze on top of it like I did. I’m so thankful that I finally talked about and dealt with my situation and stopped the self destructive behavior.
Despite the unique backgrounds of the guests, I truly appreciate how the skill and style of the interview elicits a genuinely humanistic and relatable connection with the viewers.
This is so awesome I spent six years at FtBragg in the 82Airborne and always wondered what guys were in Delta and never figured that out but I’m sure I have ran across one or two but they never let on but as far as I’m concerned they are the best we have in the United States Military,Thanks guys
I am impressed with the all of the Delta guys relative to the DEVGRU guys. They just appear to be more humble and mature. Good selection process. Thanks for sharing.
@@michaelrollins806Seems hypocritical for the Army guys to talk about being a “quiet professional” when there are many podcasts by former Unit guys on RUclips and Instagram.
I talk to varios ex NFL players drafted in the later rounds. All state high school. Honorable mention for position various div 1 college. To the man, they were shocked how big and fast the NFL was.
I really liked this interview. What I also notice is these guys who make it to CAG we’re good at every level . Like Zack played high school sports then went on to college. Joins the army n lucks out with the 18 x program not saying he didn’t earn oh hell no he worked to get that tab you have to be a good athlete to even play in college and they say these elite Sf n regular SF guys are basically pro athletes and you can tell by looking at them I can notice it
Thanks Ryan for the Delta Operators interviews. Zack represents the extraordinary resolve to do a difficult job. American is fortunate to have these men protecting our country🇺🇸Much respect.
Man! This guy is professional and humble at the same time. Many of these SOF interviews turn into flex fest's. This one was enjoyable. Zack seems like a stand up guy.
When i was deployed to Iraq i worked alongside the green berets and some of them u wouldn't even known we in the military never mind SF unless u saw them in their gear. They were very chill well spoked guys none of that "look at me Im a badass" stuff that mostly just wore regular clothing. Me being in full battle rattle felt weird because when i rode around with them they just drove regular vehicles. Depending on where we were going I couldn't wear all my gear I had to just carry it with me.
First interview I’ve watched on this channel. I’m Sold. Subscriber I have become! I really enjoyed! Besides obviously the military stuff the sports talk was really cool to hear
Awesome Ryan, Zack was a fantastic interview. is there any chance you could get Charlie on from Hades as well, maybe both on at the same time? Former Delta sniper and all around cool guy.
I’m way too old to be any sort of combat professional but I am a dedicated and full time medical professional and would join any branch that would have me to assist in surgery or recovery room, triage whatever if something happens where things go off the rails. I’m still really good at what I’m doing which is a family practice I’ve owned for 13 yrs, worked for a company and a Native American tribe for 11 years before that. Come on, really? SEALs are big on teams in a pretty big way. Dale Comstock was actually talking about this on an interview, that Delta selection makes it be individual, SEAL training has a big team thing going on & someone can kind of lean on that. That was his opinion.
you guys are so funny about the football thing, "i thought i was fast" and when Zack talked about his mom and education background, it was amazing. i was so into it.
The difference in overall energy of the person between DETLA and DEVGRU is always so surprising to me. Even the way they look/speak and especially the way they reflect specifically on their childhoods. It’s something you don’t usually see so clearly between Army/Marines where they all start from but it’s a totally different blueprint with Tier 1 guys.
Wow….this is the first time I’ve heard a SOF recounting of the Rusty Bradly interview of the Spirwin Ghar battle. That was the battle where a Hummer hit a massive IED, and blew a massive hole in the kids leg (where they showed actual pictures of the wound, which is very rare for a combat story like that). Very cool interview
interesting detail in this interview is the weight loss for selection. it's always been such a interesting thing for me seeing so much weight on USA-SF guys. It's obviously a result of ridiculous feeding on and off deployment and being driven / flown to target most days of the week. For us, real world long recces, hard living for prolonged periods and moving quickly doesn't happen as well when packed with muscles that are screaming for nutrition.

Seems like symbolism is very big in corporations.. this show shows the morale of a soldier , the training & the mindset... The programming installed into the soldier, I can see it in both of you. I was involved in the Falklands conflict 1979 80,, I was never in the theater I was only there for support in Liverpool UK.. it was all fun and games until ,, the results started to come back to Liverpool from the theater.. and some of your guys never came back and the ones that did were shell shocked.. and we're never the same again .
I'm a 1990 grad from Georgetown law school then joined the Army as an MP. 1993 deployed to Somalia then Haiti 1994. Coming back from Haiti I applied for OCS and then finished my Army career as a JAG lawyer 2013
Shit I'm watching this and just reolized I worked with these guys. I rebember all the names and use to work closely with Rusty. We did the advance south down the Panja. I remember being about 100m away from one of thire Hummers that hit an IED, the front end just disappeared the guys in it walked away which was a miracle. Dose he remember half a dozen British Royal Marine Commandos turning up with ANA reinforcements after they took the hill? That was us.
The most humble interview I've ever heard. No macho-man bullsh*t. Very humble and genuine.
Agree 100%. Utterly and completely humble and genuine. That's what totally struck me about this interview.

I saw your Rottweiler in Celenese in Rome ga.
And I specialize in it, because I studied John llorens in high-school and some others in highschool.

I recognize that bark!!!
Seems like symbolism is very big in corporations.. this show shows the morale of a soldier , the training & the mindset...
The programming installed into the soldier, I can see it in both of you. I was involved in the Falklands conflict 1979 80,, I was never in the theater I was only there for support in Liverpool UK.. it was all fun and games until ,, the results started to come back to Liverpool from the theater.. and some of your guys never came back and the ones that did were shell shocked.. and we're never the same again
.
I had rattle snakes and copperheads pulled out of me.
Great interview, thank you guys for your service and help protecting our nation and allies!! God bless all veterans.

I had thought something strange in red sea boarding mission. Then I heard a navy seal say it was strange.
I hope Panlilio is good after our time Fort Jackson. Echo 2nd Battalion 13th Infantry
Another good one Ryan. Thanks for sharing your story Zack! 🇺🇸👍🙏
FedEx truck has been stealing from me.
