I’m a marine science major at University of Florida! There is one living species of dugong and they exist in the area around Australia. We lost the closest relative in the 18th century (called the stellar sea cow and the only Sirenia to exist in cold waters) from overfishing them to extinction. Dugong have fluked tails like dolphins because they were pelagic and it is better for maneuverability versus manatees that live in waterways with less of a current and have rounded tails.

some of you on here have been watching the movie meg a bit too much i think, expecting all their teeth to be the size of a small child. 60' length max and they get this info from mostly their teeth alone as sharks leave virtually no trace after they are gone due to being made up of mostly soft tissues. The rough formula is 10' for every inch of tooth for the max length of the shark. so he is still finding a 40' shark there which is only 20' off the estimated max length and this isn't even stating which of the 3 or 4 different types of megaladon teeth that he may be holding.

ItsCvpherr shark teeth are different from human teeth the size does matter. Sharks have no bones except for there jaw bone and as you know teeth stem out of that. So if a megolodon were to have teeth that small it wouldn’t do much when biting its prey. And teeth just wouldn’t grow that small

This is indeed a megalodon tooth. A megolodon tooth is much larger than that. It must have come off of a necklace or something. But that’s a great white tooth. A megolodon tooth would be roughly the size of your hand. And to everyone that says it is a baby meg tooth then why isn’t it fossilized. The megolodon went extinct millions of years ago meaning that the tooth would have to be fossilized to be real
