When you have a choice between a complicated answer and a simple one, take the simple answer every time: anchor. As it is now, there's no evidence to the contrary.
No 1 stopped to think, the sheet may have been what they were trying to hide.

I love how entertaining you guys are and the chemistry you have. I don't blame you for thinking the duct taped suitcase is eerie, as someone who watches a lot of true crime, it screams dodgy to me lol.
The fact that they sank very stained bedsheet and the suitcase, makes me think they were evidence...

I think it's likely a homemade boat anchor -- and perhaps the strength of the current in that area is the reason. Or, it could be a weight that had been attached to something else someone didn't want to come to the surface. Still potentially creepy, but likely not.

Same here, a lot of people that on the river where I live either have an anchor or one that's homemade cause the current on the Mississippi River is very dangerous. So I believed this was mostly for someone's boat but heck it could've been drugs for all we know

So I'm guessing someone was trying to make an anchor or a tie-off point. Looks like they needed the rocks for weight, the suitcase to move it on land easier, and the duct tape to keep it from coming apart. I'm glad it wasn't anything nefarious. I'm guessing that somewhere out there is some dude who went through a lot of trouble who is griping and complaining as he watches you guys dismantling his awesome contraption. LOL!

What if the suitcase full of rocks was a weight for something else? The other one could be the same thing, but definitely ruling out the one still in the waster as a possibility for something they were trying to throw away is a must.

Jake, I found a little ‘honey hole’ in West Virginia for treasure hunting. I went diving this morning and found 6 I watches, 2 fit bits, a sirloin and g shock watch, 2 go pro’s, 6 pair of sun glasses and 1 pair of prescription glasses. The only reason I I dove this spot is because a girl jumped off of a rock and lost her expensive prescription glasses. I went back the next morning (this morning) and found her glasses and all the other stuff. I will be mailing the girl her glasses tomorrow. Jake, is there anyway to find owners to i watches? I, like you, want to return what I can to owners. Keep the videos coming, you are an inspiration.

Maybe the suitcase with the rocks was attached to the other suitcase to help hold it down and somehow they just came apart? I hope nothing bad is in the other suitcase. Good Luck Can't wait to see the next one!👍

Love watching guys be guys. Your the best. You work with what you got. Our anchor was a 50gal bucket with cement. A chain was inserted with a floater ball. It worked so good a tropical storm came through and boat never moved.

It could be a good fishing spot to dock your boat, especially since it is near a bridge. And they just made their own.
I love fishing and it is something I would do, without having to worry about hitting the bridge pylons and still be near where the fish hangout.

I’ve been watching your videos for 10 years and I saw your TikTok video so I just looked for the video and I found it I am so excited to see what it is
I remember making one of these as a kid, but it was way smaller of course, we used a cheap bookbag & tied a rope to it & dropped it to the bottom of the river, we used it as an anchor for our aluminum boat, we would jump into the water, grab the rope & tie it to the cleat on the bow of the boat. best anchor for our fishing spot 👍🏼

It’s a home-made boat anchor.
It probably broke off because, you know, duct tape.
I'm too lazy to search, but haven't they found this sort of thing before? Like you say I think it is a home made improvised mooring / permanent anchor for a boat. Maybe it got washed down the river a bit in a flood or something.
It's odd what people will use as anchors. Perhaps it was someone's favorite fishing spot and at one point they tied the loose end somewhere they could access and tie off whenever out there.
My family had a camper along the beach shoreline of Lake Erie in Marblehead, OH. We filled plastic gallon milk jugs with sand and tied them to our rafts. The rafts usually were left in the water morning to dusk and we spent most of our time in the water playing. It was fun and the anchors were convenient, especially if taking a nap and not wanting to drift. Lol.
Hey! I have a place where there is no doubt you would find SO. MANY. THINGS. I personally wanted to dive this river, but I couldn't do it by myself.
also, this place is a spring river, so it's cold all year long.

Have you thought about breaking those rocks to see if there is something in the rocks themselves?
You mean like fossils? Otherwise, there isn't anyway a human gets something inside a rock.
@@tomofwc Oh it is entirely possible, I don't remember exactly how it was done. But I remember watching a video a few years ago. They were interviewing an Ex KGB member and he went through this whole process. By the end of it he got what looked like real rocks and they had Weight but they would put stuff inside them while they were curing.
My guess was rocks based on the hook attached. Think someone made a homemade bouy / anchor to attach something so it would stay still in current. Question: As a fellow scuba diver, why didn’t you use lift bags?

This could be a sorority initiation thing, and maybe whoever put it there didn't actually know there were just rocks inside. Another idea is it's somehow connected to field training out of Fort Benning (building an improvised anchor out of available materials)

I think the inside lining even stitching of the suitcase could of had drugs in it, I’ve watched videos of police detaining things like that at the airport, it’s not noticeable at all but could also be all washed off from the water. Threw it in the river to get rid of evidence of course

What about the rocks themselves? Are they precious stones from an archaeological site? Are they geologically native to the area?
It's a legitimate concern. Actually happened to one of my closest friends. She had a restaurant, went out back to throw some trash in the dumpster, spotted a suitcase with what she thought was a wig. Opened it up and it turned out that wig was real hair attached to a real body.

Maybe the bedsheet had blood/evidence so they wanted to get it rid of it too, and the duct tape was used to keep the bedsheet from floating off? Idk… unlikely but still weird.

My guess is anchor points for a party platform. The location by the bridge. The depth of the water. The amount of work & materials used to make the anchors. It all points to something made by a group of motivated, inexperienced novices. Young people that want to party can be extremely motivated!

The first package looks like someone made a mooring. I have used 55gal drum full of rock for mooring sailboats before.
