I disagree with Louis. If the press had known about her cancer before photogate, the response to it would have been even worse, since the media would assume she must be at death’s door.
This doesn't make sense though. King Charles is an example of that, and now that we do know, the media aren't behaving in a particularly negative way around any assumption that she's at "death's door". They're wishing her well and a speedy recovery.
@@Woodzta Charles is different because he’s been visible since his health issues were announced. Kate, who the press are more fascinated by, hasn’t been. If people had known she had cancer and the first photo of her turned out to be edited, of course that would trigger a flood of speculation.
@@NeilTaylor1 I don't know why my post was deleted, but I'll try again. Charles is really only different based on the decisions they made. When you say "worse", it's hard to really tell what you mean. The media were sympathetic to King Charles after the announcement. They chose to release the edited photo. They chose for her to be completely out of sight. They chose to make the announcement yesterday, and again, this has effectively ended the speculation by the media and she is receiving best wishes. There's nothing to suggest that they had no control over the narrative, or that the media would have led with further negative conspiracies instead of the support and best wishes that she is receiving right now by said media.
We already had papers printing to leave them alone before she even made the announcement? It's insane to imply that they had no control over how this would go.
As much as this is an individual tragedy think about the thousands of people in similar situations who will not get prompt diagnosis, prompt treatment and will die as a result of the devastation of the NHS by the tories. Among the people who have cancer Kate is enormously lucky.
Even the statement by Kate is shady and vague. Here’s something fishy! Kensington Palace has strongly asked people not to speculate on what cancer she has or what stage it is. I think it’s perfectly fair that they need space while family are sick but I note there has been no discussion of adjusting the amount of public funds they are paid during this time. Most of the country could not take 3 months to recover from surgery at full pay. They would have to return to work or be unpaid. For my own family my father’s prolonged recovery from cancer left a severe gap in the house finances during my teenage years. This not the royals experience is the norm. Beyond that, for most families the sick persons spouse would not be able to stop working to support their loved one. In almost all cases if they could get permission from work to do this it would be unpaid leave. I think the issue with them stepping back is not that it happened but that it blows open the idea that as a nation what we pay to the royals is in exchange for their work. Their ability to choose what they do is at a time of family crisis highlights how privileged they are and that we pay them just for existing, not for what they give back to the nation.
Many of their costs will not change if they are ill, or not, for months on end - staff, "house" upkeep (palace?), costs, repairs etc Or are you saying they should be made homeless, without staff to deal with the media, cooking, cleaning, maintenance, diary commitments, charity requests etc etc etc etc
@Neilhuny They have a reasonable amount of personal wealth (besides what they own from being heir to the crown) and so if they choose not to work then they could pay personally. Many of the costs they incur are related to their working - security/travel costs are more expensive if undertaking events as a public figure for example. A reduction in these at present might actually mean that they are in a *better* financial situation if they are not undertaking duties whilst retaining their full income. The presenters on this and other news channels keep talking about how understandable it is that William not be able to work while she's ill. It's understandable to not *want* to work whilst your partner is sick so you can care for them and your children. I'm certain this is the case for most families in this situation (and that my mother would have wanted to do this when my father was sick). But for most people it's not a choice they can make whilst retaining their salary. If that’s a choice they make, they like others who do so, should have financial matters be a part of that decision, not something they don’t have to consider. In general I think it's ridiculous as has been done here and elsewhere to claim that they are sharing the experience of others in this situation - with a family member having a prolonged illness - when they are from the outset with their wealth in a position of privilege which allows choices others will never have the option to make (such as private healthcare ensuring immediate treatment), but are also being allowed to make a choice not to work without reducing their income in a way others cannot. I do not know for certain but I would be surprised if there was any other publicly funded position where this would be the case, and suspect the same of private employment. If they were both civil servants, the sick individual would stop getting full pay and go down to statutory after a contracted amount. Their partner would have to take holiday time and when this ran out unpaid leave if they could not/chose not to work. Many people in these situations are forced to return to work at a time that they would prefer not to due to finances. They are acting like all their income comes from personal wealth, making them free to make these choices with no accountability. Given that the former is not true, the latter should not be.

@@markfarmer3948 I don't believe she is more important that anyone else, I'm a republican who wants the monarchy abolished but I still think it's news, regardless of her wait free treatment.
And like what Emily said previously, a lot of people should be feeling a lot of shame now. We bullied a woman with cancer to 'out' herself. Disgraceful
If it's "preventative" chemotherapy, does that mean they don't know that she actually still has cancer (as they've already removed the cancerous tissue they found)? I'll also point out that there are literally THOUSANDS of people who have cancer who struggle to get the medical attention and comfort they need, both of which things Kate obviously has in abundance. I'm not sure why there is no equal outpouring of love and support for all the other people with cancer? Kate seems like a nice person and has just as much value and importance as anyone else, but her only real distinguishing feature is that William married her. And William's only real distinguishing feature is an accident of birth. And it goes on and on.
In fairness, public outpouring of sympathy is not limited to the Royals. My partner went through cancer treatment last year and had tremendous support from family, friends and especially the superb medical team (doctors, nurses, support team and caring MacMillan team) that supported and treated him. Only the most narcissistic would probably not care. OK, she’s a Royal, but she’s also a mother of three children. Sure, she got treatment quickly probably because of her status, but those with money do jump the queue. If the government properly funded the NHS and paid staff what they’re worth then we’d all get rapid treatment.
What is the reason for not telling the public what form of cancer is it? Even the king has not publicized his cancer illness. What would be the effects if they tell us. Fact is that whether they say it or not, it does not change their prognosis.
Oh for goodness sake! Emily. From the sublime to the ridiculous I believe there was a great deal of critical speculation on your behalf,...and now she' a saint?
So princess Katie fails the respect test?! Personally I would have preferred if people had shown her some respect by allowing her some privacy. But I suppose the next best thing is to call her 'HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales'!!!!
If any of you had any modicum of the respect for her privacy, which you purport to have, you wouldn't have posted a single episode about this at all. Keep pretending you're better than "the media", while participating in exactly the filthy business as those that you like to pretend you're not
The manipulated photo was not ridiculously because if they can lie about a photo they can lie about anything. Trust is important. When there is a lack of trust nothing matters.
Behave it was her photo her children she was just putting out a picture for mother's day as she always does. She did not want her illness talked about until her children broke up from school. Look at her you can see she's ill, so she wanted a nice photo of her family posted. A photo honesty is that all you can think of you need to give your head a wobble.
Was it my imagination but did Lewis act a little sheepish at times?! Made me laugh how an arch Republican could argue for full disclosure whilst simultaneously attacking the same institution in an earlier video....seemed a little two faced to me at the time. Perhaps he might want to reflect that his behaviour is perhaps part of the problem.
Many decades ago, the late Queen Mother's mantra was 'utterly oyster', i.e., say nothing, yet despite being hard as nails, her marshmallow exterior led to general adoration. Precisely when did the general public feel they were, in some way, 'owed' explanations about every personal detail of the lives of members of the Royal Family?
I am a monarchist - I think it is the best system politically, socially and financially for Britain - but that is irrelevant as all those expressing republican views have said. Whoever you are, you need time and space for your immediate family, particularly if young children are involved, to come to terms with what is happening to you. Far more important than being a future queen, she is a mother of young children
I watched the smug superiority in your previous broadcast on this subject just a few hours ago, echoes of which I can hear in this one. Now that the position is clear, have you lot no shame?
At (2:34) What a shady sentence! Does she have cancer or not? “Cancer had been present” A very vague statement and open to many speculations wither she even has cancer now or at any time. Kensington Palace has strongly asked people not to speculate on what cancer she has, or what stage it is. This smells!
The only thing that smells is your determination to foster a conspiracy theory, based on your ignorance of normal medical practice and the English language. "Cancer had been present" is not a shady sentence at all, and there's nothing vague whatsoever. It means that biopsies showed that the cancer was already there before the operation, and makes perfect sense in this context.
Catherine and the King will be back after their treatments. All you are bothered about is how much money you can make off them. Catherine is not important constitutionally the King is and he is carrying on his duties. As for now blaming the public, everyone I have spoken to over the past few weeks is disgusted at the way you the press have been treating Catherine, social media may toxic but the press have been atrocious. Now you want to be holier than thou and try to blame the British public. Get lost.
Were you really expecting the media to completely ignore it? Other countries around the world had almost as much media coverage about it as we had! It's on the royals themselves as to how this went down. Nobody forced them to release a doctored photo or segregate their announcements and encourage suspicion.

@@annishilcock4587 well if it doesn't include you it doesn't include you. The three podcasters just spoke in general terms as well 'the public'.

Because we do not need to know. An individual's health is ultimately a private matter.

Yes the people have right
Her name is Catherine!!!
Kate
Who are these 'stand ins' Jon is taking about?
They will be fine by fall 2024.
Are you gunna shut up about it now? I don't care about these people but leave the woman alone ffs.
I have noticed several references in the media to "Kate Middleton". Why is her maiden name being used?
Oh for goodness sake! Emily. From the sublime to the ridiculous I believe there was a great deal of critical speculation on your behalf,...and now she' a saint?
@15.00 Ms Maitlis readily owned up to her own speculation, but "....now she's a saint?" When did Ms Maitlis elevate her to THAT particular station?
Tbf, of the three, she has stated her view of the right of privacy.
Tbf she reported on the wild online speculation. As a journalist should.
Who is Kate Middleton? I think you mean HRH Catherine,Princess of Wales. She has earned her due respect.
So princess Katie fails the respect test?!
Personally I would have preferred if people had shown her some respect by allowing her some privacy. But I suppose the next best thing is to call her 'HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales'!!!!
Katey
She is not Kate Middleton. Get it right
Kate
And to the dust we shall return....
A photo honesty is that all you can think of you need to give your head a wobble.
obhanryanoleary2816 Old photos the Market the car no one to blame
Her name is Princess Catherine of wales 💔🙏🏼
Her name is Catherine, her title is Priness of Wales.....although she is known as Kate to some.....and Kate Middleton to others.
Stop with this KM! Its Catherine, Princess of Wales! Show respect!
That her name Kate
I am a monarchist - I think it is the best system politically, socially and financially for Britain - but that is irrelevant as all those expressing republican views have said. Whoever you are, you need time and space for your immediate family, particularly if young children are involved, to come to terms with what is happening to you.
Far more important than being a future queen, she is a mother of young children
I watched the smug superiority in your previous broadcast on this subject just a few hours ago, echoes of which I can hear in this one. Now that the position is clear, have you lot no shame?
The photos the Market the back to back every thing
At (2:34) What a shady sentence! Does she have cancer or not? “Cancer had been present” A very vague statement and open to many speculations wither she even has cancer now or at any time.
Kensington Palace has strongly asked people not to speculate on what cancer she has, or what stage it is. This smells!
What it means is that something was removed surgically, and that biopsies from it were sent to histology for analysis.
@@w0033944 Not at all. Don’t make stuff up!
Not like your sick mind does.
Fishy for a conspiracy theorist… the rest of us know that if they operate and find evidence of a cancer they remove it.
