- Get an insider's peek into Boeing's Transonic Wind Tunnel testing lab, where technicians hover around a small scale replica of the Boeing 737 MAX. They're conducting tests on the MAX's new Advanced Technology winglet. The results of these high-accuracy tests will tell if the new winglet measures up to its desired effect.
0:30 such innovation, must have taken years to think on
Another step closer to finally having X wings. Lol
lmao
Every Boeing should be painted like this. Makes it look that much more elegant
i love the new winglets, there's nothing bad about them. they're better and more efficient than the old ones
sOOOO originals, remember the MD-11? in the 80's Mcdonnel Douglas came up with those winglettes....
But what if I'm.... BALD? AHAA MR SCIENCE MAAAAAN!!! YOU DIDN'T FIGURE THAT VARIABLE INTO YOUR CALCULATIONS NOW DID YOU??!!
Manintoga: ONE
Science: ZERO!
do they sell those winglets separately without the wings and the airplane. I wanna hook it up to my CR-V and see if it actually hellps the fuel efficiency..
why they Doesnt make a smoke so i can see the vertex :(
B707MASTER vortex*
If I recall correctly from the NASA ebook: The Apollo of Aeronautics, McDonnell Douglas was one of the industry leaders working with NASA during the ACEE Program. Research for winglets was done on the MD-10. By doing so, they quickly integrated this technology into their MD-11 in 1986. Also, Boeing and McDonnel Douglas merged in 1997! The Boeing 737 MAX winglets are original in their own way.
Surprisingly, the neo has more customers.
It have a bit difference between the 737 Max wing let with the Airbus old wing let. It is a 3-wat hybird which mix the old 737 wing let with blended winglet and the wing tip fence (which air bus used.) Also this winglet's lower winglet is much bigger than any winglet before it. But I do agree that Airbus's winglet really just looks like Boeing's 737 NG winglet
Toys for scientists! That's what they are!
love the winglet!
does anybody know how this scale model it's made? Is there any video about the build of this replica? or do you know what's the material they are using? it is hollow?
In 2017 hopefully my aviation career will be taking off. May be in the future I will be flying one of these. A dream of mine for southwest airlines.
Great information.... but why is Zapp Brannigan narrating?
1950's is a little too soon. :P NASA Ebook: The Apollo of Aeronautics Page 53 & 54 - It states that Whitcomb developed the idea, of winglets, in 1974 and published the results of his study in July 1976.
Wow 2 years ahead of the expected delivery
+Colin Boone Boeing is so far ahead of Airbus it's incredible and the only new change to the Airbus A320neo is the Made In The Good Ole USA fuel efficient GE LeapX engines other than that the A320neo IS the same ole piece of shit it always been.
airbus "wingtip fence" are from McDonnell Douglas and "sharklets" are from Aviation Partners/Boeing. Cool inventions airbus.
I would be SOOO honored to ride on the beautiful aircraft!!!
He said when it's coming out in the video.....
im an airbus fan but i still woulndnt dislike this video, boeing are still amazing! love the new winglet too, beats the 'sharklets' of the A320neo!
Dear Boeing, please please please...Bigger cabin windows on the max! bigger than the c series or the a320s. It will create a very positive experience for the passengers and will always be preferred!
Don't forget about the Boeing Renton Factory in Renton, Washington.
Boeing puts winglets on airliners to reduce the strength of wingtip vortices for more efficient flight, not for youtube commenters to like or dislike the "look" of them.
The MAX comes in three different models, the MAX-7 will be the smallest, flying the shortest routes. The MAX-8 will be the base model of which the MAX-7 is shortened from and the MAX-9 is stretched, and will fly more passengers than the -7. The MAX-9 is the most efficient, highest in capacity and has longest range of all of the new 737 MAX family.
i love the old winglets also because their so HUGE!! but if this is beter... well ok.. and i can't wait to spot a B737MAX at my favorite airport Brussels intl airport!!! ;)
all of the final assembly lines are in the US but all of the suppliers are around the world
Almost all of their manufacturing plants are in the US ._.
Their international headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois
Those Winglets are from Airbus, aren't they. Cool invention Boeing.
u need to widen the pinch pnt of the V to a curve, & the vertical winglet should b 65% to 35% for bottom n size. I called it a tune fork design & when done right should make the ride much smoother.
Beautiful Aircraft
5 YEARS UNTIL THEY DELIVER!
Thats disappointing :(
disliked because no showing of actual model with wind in win tunnel.
I do hope they still change this winglets with the raked one. :)
try searching on google for "boeing everett factory" this is just one example. It has been there for a long time
I thought I was the only one who thought that, at least somebody else saw sense.
do you know if the max will include any of the dreamliner tech, like electric packs, etc? also will it retain the old overhead panel with the typical switches or will it transition to a newer one, like the 777 or dremliner?.
Boeing's incredible flexibility in engineering design.
I would really want to be a part of the team that makes the models! :D
Where is the best seat, incase of a crash?
It says a 13 percent saving over the existing NG due to the new wing, engines and airframe.
What's going on with the winglets, now airbus uses boeing's winglets, and boeing uses airbus winglets, this is crazy!
Very true. Also, given that MD was merged with Boeing, that means, in a sense, Boeing have this technology decades before EADS/Airbus. Some people don't study their aviation history well. Also, those winglet look nothing like those from Airbus, the A380 have to same type of winglet (wing fences actually), as everyone of their aircraft with the exception of A300/330/400.
Those engines look like they belong on the Bat Plane.
The factory and headquarters are in the US -.-
looks pretty cool... dear santa!
Can't wait, I want to see it flying! :D
well the good thing is it will be ready for when i hope to be a pilot :)
The "new" Airbus A320 winglet is exactly the same of that on a 737NG.
Type certification of an entirely new model takes 5 years, from application to the authorities until final type certification. Plus if you compare to the A320 neo that will take 3 years.
Do you not agree?
A stiffener vertical rib n that protrudes (slight bump)thru wing just body close of center forces n & all vibration out the end of the wings instead of back to the cabin(55%flex wing & 45% doesn't w/out hving to thicken the wing).
+James Merkel Because boeing engineers are reading your comment right?
It's going to take you guys 5 years to get a plane with new winglets and engines delivered...? I expect good things. :)
Yeah but that is way too SMALL compare with this one. And MD11 didn't actually put upper and lower winglet together, it is like a smaller downward winglet with fallowed by a much bigger upwared winglet.
That beautiful winglets ....make Boeing 737Max more sexy....
Why didn't you fly Concorde more often? If you had, they may have kept them in operation.
airbus and boing are trading winglets!
Why don't work Boeing and Airbus together for at least one project. Both companies have so many different good ideas.
Keep up the good work Boeing!
So basically, Boeing and Airbus changed winglets between the 737 and A320
@Associated25 Why Southwest? Staying domestic?
But Im now heading to college in August, would this plane be ready on time? I want to fly this!
Damned first commercial flight in 2017? There must be a lot more than just engine and wind iprovement?
i think he means that the new airbus sharklets look similar to boeing´s winglets and airbus winglets look like new boeing´s winglets
MD11 used to habe one of those, but smaller
so cool
Winglet looks like the one on the MD-11
All new? Hardly. MD11 already did it with the whitcomb winglet.
When is the 7E7 going to be announced
keep in mind that on neo airbus finally gave up on their silly triangle shaped winglet and applied the normal winglet shape wich boeing has been using for decades already. so whos failing? XD
do you know how much a ticket with concorde went for?
So cool !
The winglets are cool, but I'm kind of disappointed by the name. Companies are kind of getting lazy with names.
This looks nothing like it in my opinion I see how but it really doesn't. You should be saying copied the 737NG winglet with the "sharklets"
ahah it like when you increase a little engine efeciency, you can put less fuel, if you put less fuel, the plane will be lighter, engines need less fuel, you can put even less of it... and to infinity.. :)
What about electric flight control and all electric sys? (as 787)
Lol, the narrator is Zapp Brannigan.
Haven't Airbus already got them on their A320s?
it looks like airbus and Boeing is switching there wing lets
Mow much Composites are in the new 737 Max? its already made up most of the 787.
Is the MAX a 737-900?
737 need more powerful engines for airports in height:
El Alto la paz Bolivia ICAO: SLLP
Bogota Colombia ICAO: SKBO
between other airports in height
Soooo when goes it airborn
They're different than airbus'. Isn't Airbus copying Boeing's anyways?
Hope QANTAS get this aircraft
john leahy in dogy smile when he watch this video.
These are very different to airbuses "winglets"...
Excellent winglet Boring. Airbus will be ripping this winglet design off as well, Just like they ripped off the 787 with their A350. Boeing build the best airliners in the sky period.
Lovely bird xD
Winglet and sharklet are neither boeing nor an airbus invention?? There are known since a looong time in aviation...
unic design
exactly what i was gonna say..so true..
it is
Yep
too bad, deliver it in 2017 that's a while ...
luv it
13 percent, really?
That's massive.
this is weird for me even this model will need a remove before flight ribbon or should i say remove before playing.....XD hahahahahaha LOL
Just watch soon your gonna here from airbus saying they have an a new a320 max with a new winglet
You definitively don't know anything about aircraft development...
