The great thing about the 747 is that, from it's introduction in the 1970s to now, only one crash was associated with the design of the aircraft. All of the other crashs were pilot error.
+Mozart Rocha It never scares me....I've done it multiple times......on a flight simulator game. Just kidding :) Yup, just the thought of it stalling with 1 million pounds of cargo is gut wrenching.
I'm not even interested in planes...some how ended up watching this and it is pretty amazing what people can achieve I mean never in a million years would people thought this was possible(like a lot of other things I know!) but jeeeeezzzus Christ they are proper machines arnt they.
World's greatest airplane (WGA). The stall testing is quite a fete. This is the best confidence building exercise ever pulled. Boeing rules the Global skies!
They both represent massive leaps in aviation history. Im personally a boeing man, much the same way one could be either a Ford or a Chev fan. Yet, thats all part of the fun of it. Here in Sydney, the A380 is the king of the skies. It makes wide, slow turns around the city every time it lands, but I'd love to see the 747-8 make a a debut here too. There's just something special about the Boeing. Must be the hump.
+Anthony Kernich You'd need some solid nerves to force your untested plane into a stall though. That's the catch of being a test pilot: Everything you do is an experiment.
I know that the US Air Force has invested an undisclosed amount of time into these tests of the Boeing 747-8. And I'm sure that after testing is completed they'll apply it to both Air Force One
What i love about Boeing's is the control stick. I prefer the full Yoke setup as opposed to the Airbus's joystick only on one side of the plane. the Boeing gives you the more, in control, feeling when you fly.
Me over here like, this is big yes, but I live 7 miles away from boing field in Everett and they have the dream lifters there and test them over my house
0:03 - first time i've seen an airliner stall, i didn't know it looked so similar to a small airplane like the piper warrior stalling. I wonder what altitude is considered safe to perform stalls in that plane is.
A388 is shrunk , it will look much leaner once it's stretched. As for 747, it looks too intimidating and looks more of a military plane and the hump is not pretty
They are very awesome to fly on, and it's cool to be able to go to the back and climb the stairs. It really is more spacious. And they're flying with airlines now, so no one had an opinion of the 747-8 to fly on yet.
Nuts - I was hoping they would do a hard landing test. Back in the 1970's, I saw a film clip of the first 747 being subjected to such a test - it was awesome! The test consisted of doing a standard landing approach, but without the flare just before touchdown - they basically flew it right into the runway. When the wheels hit the runway, the impact made the wings flap up and down, and the engines wobble from side to side to a degree that was amazing!
I've flown the 747-8 in a simulator (yes I know that simulators aren't always realistic but the one I have is very realistic) and it is tremendous I have never experienced acceleration from a plane that size also it is fast, VERY FAST. I love it.
Long live the wonderful B747! Can there possibly be a better proven heavy aircraft? The 747 project abounded in uncompromising design and engineering which happily resulted in an aesthetically satisfying jumbo as well. The 747's flight record, shape, superb massive triple slotted trailing edge flaps, heavily swept-back wings, beefy undercarriage & excellent cockpit designs make it my (ultimate?) favourite heavy weight modern jet... :-)
World's greatest airplane (WGA). The stall testing is quite a fete. This is the best confidence building exercise ever pulled. Boeing rules the Global skies! More at Vacation USA, under business virtual tour pages.
The new improvements --ie; payload capacities, engine thrust, etc. For years now they fill em with water barrels to simulate the weight of passengers & luggage. Also, they perform a final delivery flight test with the airline pilots behind the yoke at Paine Field north of Seattle Washington. If I recall, a 747 can handle 20,000 landing cycles before it's retired due to the metal stress caused by the takeoff&landings and pressurization. 747 can last for 20+ years because they fly long range & experience much less takeoff&landing cycles vs smaller A/C. A 747 fuselage expands by 12 inches in diameter after full pressurization causing metal fatigue where the rivets (fasteners) are used to fasten the skin to the spars (aka frames).
There are planes that follow it with camera equipment.. So when you see the 747 in air there is a smaller plane next to it doing the photography. Also, that is a onboard camera. The video isn't bull . (:
Wow..!! Just smashing..!! That captatin got balls, pal..!! I do agree with you, CH-2013, It trully freaks anyone out just to stall that immense plane for the first time..!!
Amazing works happings in airenonics today. I'm still in love with the B17 and we have military and commercial planes that are amazing taking to the air daily. it is exciting.
***** There are doors to exit (Gate door) right outside the cabin so unless the thing went up in an instantaneous inferno they would probably have time to get out.
CopWatch Inland Divison Then how come hardly any pilots survive in passenger plane crashes compared to fighter jet crashes ? I believe airline policy prohibits such benefits accorded to pilots without ensuring the same to the passengers as well. Suppose in a crash the pilots would give up all too easily and abandon the aircraft leaving the passengers to rot in hell !
Fardun007 We are saying that during testing they have ejection seats. If they were on actual planes a pilot could crash the plane and live which is not true but if it is only a test plane I don't see why you wouldn't put ejection seats in it.
Jerbear45 I cannot imagine how would a pilot eject in a test A380 ? Is there an opening on the roof of the plane or are they supposed to penetrate through it using their skull ? Lol. I think Balla Boy is right.
When i was a kid, my dream was to fly. You can say i got that from my fathers side since he is a engineer AME-13 (Ret. Chief Engineer for Biman Bangladesh Airlines, yeah not so well known, he also designed to two large hangers of our country). About the dream part, it never happened. Anways if you ever become an Aeronautical Engineer leave a message and i would love to talk about whats going on with the aviation industry. Oh by the way do you know anyone selling Cesna 152, YOM 1983 and later.
If the Piper Cub was the VW Beetle of airplanes, the 747 family is the Ford F-150. It's big, it's reliable, it's relatively easy to get along with, and it's rugged. Johnny-come-lately Airbus will never impress me, the 747 is the quintessential modern heavy lifter and has been since it wowed flyers at its introduction in 1970. It's only gotten better since. I look forward to what Boeing brings us in the future.

Drop the nose. Full power. Recover. It is that simple. In my little Cessna we try to keep it within no more than a drop of 100 feet. I am not sure what they look for in a big jet like this.
Yes dude this is going to be the best comical plane ever hopefully it's better than 747-400 but I know this will be a amazing plane I love it can't wait till I ride it I'm so exited thank you Boeing for making this amazing plane I knew you were the best plane creating company which is 1000000000 better than Airbus Airbus sucks soooo much Boeing is so good I love you guys!
What I want to know is: Why do so many male pilots have moustaches? Maybe it's that macho male aviator thing. Then again, the 747 female captain I know is one of the most feminine, pretty, lipstick and heels wearing cats in town :)

Man, have any of you taken the time to admire the fact that the design is so beautiful?
im surprised that plane can even take off with the size and weight of the test pilots balls..
I'm just concerned that this might not fit in my garage?
The 787-8 is easily the best looking plane. 747 gets better and better as time goes by.

If you ask me, the 747 is the best aircraft in modern aviation. Great record to back it as well. And just beautiful.
too bad the 747 8 isnt being bought by airlines much anymore. shame, its far more beautiful than the a380

Beautiful queen of sky💖😘
@impalax327 that's what makes the latest version so great, all the problems have been fixed since the first model was launched in the early 70's.
Boeing builds the best airplanes. The 747 is still a thing of beauty...

What is there to test on a 747 - it has been flying for many years -> Queen of the skies!

This is a cargo version. They even said it is forced to fly with 1,000,000 lbs. Besides this is a new plane. Listen more....
It's a new version

The Airbus A380 kicks ass
747-8 is an amazing plane. although i know nothing of aeronautics. lol. cant wait to fly on it.
Watching that stall puts my stomach in my throat! Ugh, I'm glad they test it but I really, really hope it never happens when I'm flying in one.
the idea behind the testing makes sense to make the aircraft more efficient

what if something goes bad? can the pilot eject during these test?

this plane is verrryyy good
Thanks

I love this plane
During stall what if something went wrong ? Do the pilots wear parachutes to abandon the aircraft ?
***** There are doors to exit (Gate door) right outside the cabin so unless the thing went up in an instantaneous inferno they would probably have time to get out.
Jerbear45 They had parachutes and i believe some sort of ejection system(believe) when they were testing the A380, so id assume these guys do too

there is Major difference in those two aircraft, comparing them two would be a mistake. Both of them are serving their best in their intended sectors.

Bowing out love your videos you're awesome keep making new one soon
its mainly a freight plane but there are some airlines that will be operating them as passenger carriers.
all it is is a heap of aluminium panels attached to a series of structural girders with various hydraulics and electronics to steer.
They make the stall look so harmless. Is it really that easy, just let go of the stick? They have to throttle up too and get the airspeed back up, no?
Drop the nose. Full power. Recover. It is that simple. In my little Cessna we try to keep it within no more than a drop of 100 feet. I am not sure what they look for in a big jet like this.

yes there already is one with Lufthansa
Stunning & beautiful aircraft!
what about snow?
The thing I hated in the early 747's were the tiny little ugly engines. But the -8 has got big engines and a lenghtened body! Splendid!
Peace down which touch the runway is disposable?
so this is replacing the 747 right? i hope i get to fly on one!
thanks for updating latest technology
