I would not be surprised to see you have to recharge the Dell multiple times through the tests because the battery completely drains to zero.

    Normally I would say the comparison was hugely unfair, and that you should compare the base M2 Pro 14” MBP (or even the discounted M1 Pro) to this Dell, but honestly I’m very happy with how the Mac was able to hold its own against this much bigger high end laptop and beat it out in a lot of cases.

    Thanks Max for the comparisons, it was observed that in some tests the Dell was better than the Apple M2 and in other tests the Apple was better than the Dell; however, the Intel processor model used is more comparative against an Apple M2 Pro or M2 Max processor than against the basic Apple M2, even though both laptops are 15". On the other hand, if that Intel Core i7 were to be lowered its speed at the level of the 3.5 GHz speed of the Apple M2, most likely it is that the Apple M2 was much better in almost or in all the comparison tests carried out, since the M2 for its type of architecture (RISC) is more efficient than that of Intel (CISC). Regards.

  • @shaunpugh3287
    @shaunpugh3287 Год назад +13

    I think these were compared just because they are both 15" screens, and for that reason alone. The specs of the two are quite different, as is the price. I think a more realistic test would be to spec the XPS so it is a similar price and specs to the Air, then see how it plays, or compare this XPS against a 14" MacBook Pro with M2 Max which is a very similar price and spec to this laptop. It's not a very good comparison when there is $1200 between them, twice the amount of RAM, almost double the amount of CPU cores, a gaming GPU and an OLED display. Comparisons either need closely matched devices or to make a point that the 'underdog' punches above its weight, that would be good consumer advice. With this, you've just said the most expensive one wins.

All this goes to the MB - it still smashes the Dell concerning battery life, it is much lighter and slimmer and the display is much brighter - 400 nits or 500 nits are a big difference. I just maxed the configuration for the M2 15" Air ... with 24gb unified memory and a 2tb drive, it's 2499.00 ... still cheaper than that Dell configuration. Just had to find that out before I finished watching to find out the rest of your results. Finished and I am impressed by the Dell. If I wanted a gaming laptop, or on the go 3-D rendering I would have to go with the Dell (even if it only lasts 2 hours). However if that wasn't my focus the Air easily would be my choice. Is there a future where Apples architecture takes on graphics to the degree they've done with everything else? That will be an interesting moment. I'm not discounting Metal at all, and maybe that is the key.

    Nice comparison altogether, but two things :
    1. As much as the OLED screens are great, they are if you plan to use the laptop for around two years max, after that most certainly the burn in creeps in. So as a long term investment I would never by an OLED laptop as the things stand right now and I wouldn’t consider it an advantage.
    2. The XPS is a very potent laptop, but you haven’t touched the thermals. And since I’ve watched several other reviews - they are shockingly bad for the Dell it seems. So it would be interesting to compare the sustained performance.

    It's a Dell, No Way! I had a high end Dell Desktop with 2T hard drive with Windows 7 Pro. I usually set up my own computers, but got lazy this time, and had a computer guy do it for me. When I got it, the Windows screen kept on going out on me. I had the computer guy check it out, seems they didn't put a powerful enough power supply for this model. He fixed that putting in a more powerful one. My last Dell with Windows XP Pro lasted 10 years, that's why I got another Dell. Guess what, this one barely lasted 2 years, when hard drive died, and Dell didn't support the warranty. Tech person kept on telling me hard drive was fine, just reinstall Windows. Which I did, and as my computer guy suspected, hard drive was dead. I don't care how good you say the specks are, run, don't walk away from Dell. This is the main reason, I switched to a MacBook M2 Air 13.6 with 16 Gigs of Ram, and 512 SSD storage. So far, I love it, it's my first laptop. I put it in sleep mode after charging it. So many Mac tech guys said don't shut it down. So used to shutting down with Windows, so I did it with the Air. Messed up, I couldn't get into RUclips, only blank boxes when I did. Had to do a reboot, so I keep it in sleep mode. It works perfectly that way. I did have to do an update last night, took awhile, but worked out great. I'm so used to desktops, so this is a learning curve. But, the Air is easy so easy to use. Odd thing though, when I took the Mac class at Apple Store in NYC, teacher said I should shut it down at least once a week. Glad I go by what tech guys on here say, cause sleep mode is working fine. So, right about battery life, it is amazing on the Air. My friend/lawyer who got me the MacBook, added the 67W fast charger. 30 minutes, and I'm done before bed. Better comparison would have been with top of the line Lenovo.

The xps is definitely faster overall, and feels quicker; however things like bluetoth disconnects, etc, are annoying. The xps display is also amazing. Windows 11 is a more productive platfrom, and seems to managge memory better than the mac (which hides leeks in swap). The Mac has final cut pro, and superior power usage, and somehow more enjoyable.
    Next year when meteor lake is released, with half of the power requirement, and probably matching or beeting the m3 max in performance, things get interesting. Of course for most users, all of this is overkill.

Mediocre machines, not matter what line you buy. Every single test done on my Dell XPS outperformed all other machines, yet I had driver issues, blue screens, software not working, freezings, etc. At the same time, just for fun I bought an iMac for Christmas, the first Apple machine in my life. Since then I bought only Apple machines, not only for me, but for the entire family. Apple macs just run smooth, the look and feel, especially the monitors are second to none. The only thing I can argue about Macs, they last f. forever, no reason to buy another one. I still have in use my first Mac I bought 10 years ago, and this one I'm typing with, it is 5 years old and is being used for data science. Flowless!
