- Are you prepared for the unspeakable? The UTSA Police Department presents its new training video "Active Shooter Survival." It is our hope that this video empowers you to have a survivor mentality. This video goes over in detail the survival principles of AVOID, DENY, DEFEND. By following these principles, you will greatly increase your chance for survival.

some tips
1. be the quiet kid
2. be the camera man
3. spread out
4.dont open the door (obviously)
5.dont go close to anyone in black with a duffle bag.
6.dont hide in the bathroom makes it easier to get to you bathroom is only if you need too
7.if you need to hide in the bathroom grab something to defend with if the shooter finds you
8.if the active shooter is currently trying to break your local door keep yelling at them to apolgize to the door and if they dont knock em on the head with the door
9.if you know any type of fighting skill like karate kung fu etc defend the class your in if you can do it with being a easy target (you have to be extra careful in the shooter is stainding either out the door with it broken down or in the door frame)
10.when you cant take it anymore *jump out the window assassins creeds style*

Your right ! You just never know when something is going to happen . I work on a Military base . Just because I do it doesn’t mean that something can’t happen. If a person is bent on doing something believe Me they will regardless.

Considering how long the main road to the school is, setting up spike strips everywhere and making them walk through the Texas heat should be a strong enough countermeasure

Good point. I personally think that they should teach kids how to defend themselves against the shooter in case the kids were in the hallway, or if the shooter got into the classroom. Thats just my opinion tho

Step one: watch 'the breakfast club', learn alternative exits and creativity under pressure.
Step two: practice situational awareness every day. It should be as natural and normal as breathing.
Step three: "sh*t happens and we deal with it" is an attitude for life.

Note for extra safety, if a man has a large bag, it has a gun, take the guy out
This tip is just, Pure no, a large bag does NOT equal a gun, and some guns are concealed in smaller bags (Pistols for example), Dont immediately attack a person with a large bag as theyre not designed for guns and 1000 times out of 1001 its not a gun.

UTSA can do better. Purse straps to secure an auditorium door?! Surely a door securing retrofit is called for as a preemptive strike against the rash of school shootings. Perhaps professors & TAs could be the only individuals who have knowledge of a securing device or key to bolt the door in an active shooter event. A key could be placed surreptitiously in a podium or panel near every door that deadbolts a retrofitted unbreachable mechanism. This way a perpetrator couldn’t lock everyone in, but a lockdown to protect students inside could be activated by teaching staff.

This video and your attempt to fix this problem is wrong-minded, and misses the complete problem.
You expect children to defend themselves?
You need to realize that the problem is the toxic environment in schools, the bullying and humiliation. If you fix that problem, the angry child will have no reason to go to the school with a weapon. And, isn’t that you goal?
Once the shooter is at the school with a weapon, you have failed.
This video shows you have failed.
You cannot stop a school shooter once they have entered the school.
You can take away their anger.
You need to learn about what causes school shooters: bullying, humiliation, hyper vigilance, violentization and then the decision to be violent. Until you understand that, you will fail.
You can prevent the shooting if you address the bullying and humiliation.
Think. Learn.
And also treat mental illness seriously and not as a joke, a lot of those who commit mass shootings show warning signs and nobody does anything.
