I worked at an elementary school. Watching this makes me realize how out of date our schools are with this type of training. They teach kids to all huddle together in a corner with lights off. Seems like this is like shooting fish in a barrel
Why do you need "training" or lockdown drills? School shootings kill so few students, there were three deaths from school shootings in 2016 and four in 2017.

@@grantgillum8768 I don’t think you can ever truly be prepared for something like that. As I’ve said, I do believe what we have in place now will prove to be inefficient. Now as a mother and educator I do think there should to be some type of action plan in place. I understand the chance of this happening is extremely slim, but personally I’d rather have an idea of what to do to protect my kids, instead of trying to “wing it”. I have friends and family that lost loved ones in the Columbine shooting. I remember the devastation our community felt. So perhaps my feelings are based a bit on bias, but for someone like me It doesn’t matter how slim the possibility, there is still a possibility. I want to make sure I do everything I can to keep my kiddos safe.
I would think children huddling would be a comfort quieting agent to reduce fear in the kids...I regard that as the correct move...I also strongly feel each classroom should have a closet attached that children can be put in with an automatic closing lock with steel doors...like pilots have on airplanes!!...
When I was growing up in the south students would have shotguns and rifles at my school in their trucks and show them off to eachother even the teachers. Then Columbine happened. Times really have changed.

Many of us had to learn survival skills as children. There may not even be a single generation that did not need to learn some type of self protection as children. Fallout is what gets you, but not how you think. Ground bursts eject debris into the air and it gets irradiated in the fireball. It then falls out as fine ash and dust. This dust gets inhaled and ingested and basically pinpricks you a million times, from the inside out. Just for note, 'popcorning' is what causes the peeling flesh thing. High winds essentially sandblast you with radioactive dust, that embeds in your pores and kills the surrounding cells.

@@quantumfrost9467 True, but then it becomes 'additional information', not 'necessary information'. It's like learning how to survive a blizzard while living in the middle of outback Australia. Yes, said information increases your survival skills should the event happen. But the likelihood of the blizzard happening is significantly lower than, say, somewhere in Minnesota. Thus, your knowledge about surviving a blizzard is almost rendered useless.
Survival is primitive, morals are out the window in survival. Bite, tear at the eyes, break, dislocate, tear off the trigger finger, punch and elbow them at the throat, groin, and a good blunt strike to the gut/ liver area is also a good idea. Kick, spit, scream and throw your weight around. Everything is a weapon. Expo marker? Snap it and use it as a sharp object, Cell phone? hunk of metal useful for gripping and smashing with the corner of the phone on places it will hurt. Fire extinguisher? it’s sad that I, a high school girl, felt the need to watch this a few weeks before the start of school. it’s hard out there y’all. everyone have a safe school year!
Jennifer Baez I see your brain has struggled to develop so let me explain it for you. He’s saying that people are so lazy that they don’t even care to know or find out survival skills, and he compares it to people being so lazy to where they don’t know how to change a tire.
Jennifer Baez actually that statement is not correct when you say were in constant threat of a mass shooting that’s factually in accurate. The reason that we have mass shootings in these areas is because we have gun free zones. Basically it’s advertising that they are easy targets. The sad thing is that schools aren’t treated the same Way as government buildings that have armed guards.
Jennifer Baez he’s actually correct mass shootings are very rare. I think you don’t realize they were a country of over 300 million people. And that number is climbing on a yearly basis. If you calculate all the shootings in the United States mass shootings are the lowest number. So what you’re doing is basically fair mongering. The fact is you are not correct he is. I don’t care if the number is 1000 mass shootings the year the 417 that you quoted is still the loan number. The highest number when it comes to gun violence is committed by gangs in criminals those shootings involving death. Mass shootings account for the lower number.
Jennifer Baez And another fact is in this video this man is talking about the fact that you should always be aware of your surroundings and you should always be prepared for anything bad. Unfortunately people in our society have gone to become more complacent. Relying on government to take care of them. When in fact I should reply and you should rely on ourselves it’s not the job of someone else to take care of us meeting we should be self-reliant and we don’t have that. Matter fact I will be teaching my two girls to be more self-reliant and when it’s needed in tough times.
I have anxiety and work for a place where unstable people often stop by. All that's between me & them is a sliding glass window. But the crazies usually start yelling coming down the hall before they can even see me so I've already made my "I'm outta here" escape plan and told my coworkers if you see me running, don't ask why just get out.
Also, something to keep in mind: once you get the weapon, make sure to throw it away, far from the shooter BUT ALSO far from yourself. If policemen find you with a weapon in hand, they're going to assume that YOU are the shooter and shoot you in sight. So get it out of the shooter's hands and your hands.
@@rosedorada And make sure you unload the gun. Sometimes that person can be faster than you, has length, or stronger. It’s best to practice to unload a gun fast as possible during hand to hand combat.
Snider well technically even if the shooter did know people’’a plans, these tactics are pretty hard to get over. so even if the shooter knows you’re gonna run in a zig zag motion, theres no way for them to still accurately shoot you, even if they knew that was what you were doing.

When someone is on a killing spree, their senses are blunted by their adrenaline. They may not feel the pain. On top of it, if they are on any kind of substance, this also can make them unresponsive to a threat or even severe pain. This is why 💯% commitment and being even more ruthless than the killer is critical to survival.
If they're in a group scenario trying to fight the shooter - definitely should instruct one person to gouge for the eyes, even if they don't feel the pain it'll be much harder to hit any target when they can't see.
@@grantgillum8768 better to be prepared, than not. I live in Colorado. After Columbine we take this very serious. I just think they need to revise their plan of action in the event that it happens.
@@bleujay8785 But are you really prepared? There's plenty of research to suggest that those measures just cause more stress and fatigue for teachers and students. When it comes to people dying in school shootings, the associated percentage of the US population is so low that it shows up on a calculator in scientific notation.
He is very clear with what he is saying and definitely won’t forget this
This should be a mandatory video for every school, and a mandatory talk/fake scenario with it. Should also be mandatory for certain jobs.
When I was growing up in the south students would have shotguns and rifles at my school in their trucks and show them off to eachother even the teachers. Then Columbine happened.
Times really have changed.
There's a slight issue. If this is shown at schools, the shooter knows what'll happen. After all, they are a student.
Four kids died in school shootings in 2017, and three the year before that. That's a statistic straight from Everytown. Videos like these just placate the irrational fears of children.
You really shouldn't be advocating that we fearmonger towards children.

Many of us had to learn survival skills as children. There may not even be a single generation that did not need to learn some type of self protection as children. This is much more practical than the drills we did in elementary school for nuclear war.
I remember that. We were to hide under our desks and cover our heads. Some people also made bomb shelters to protect themselves.
@@alycewich4472 I always wondered if those desks had some sort of special power to protect you from radiation
Haha
@@devinbret
Yes, mass. But, the desk is supposed to protect you from crap falling on you. Surviving the initial hard radiation burst is pretty simple and common walls and glass windows will stop it.

Jennifer Baez I see your brain has struggled to develop so let me explain it for you. He’s saying that people are so lazy that they don’t even care to know or find out survival skills, and he compares it to people being so lazy to where they don’t know how to change a tire.
Not really. Shootings are very very rare, except maybe in hoods

Or office buildings/ schools, etc, should really keep wasp spray in stock too, the kind that shoots foam up to 25ft, that would also blind someone (at least long enough to get away) and you wouldn't need to be nearly as close as to physically blind them
