This day November 19th, 2017, when BTS performed on the AMAs, was the day I found them. I was, too, one of those people wondering who these 7 talented guys were; now I am so passionate about them 4 years later!

if any group wanna get to where BTS is, they gotta go through the map of the soul and consistently reflect on themselves like BTS do.😂 They also have to love each other unconditionally and respect the hell out of each other. There's so many things that no one will ever be able to compete with them on.

At the time it wasn't condescension. It was the truth. They were underdogs, they were very popular but they were just truly getting recognition in the music industry. They were still fighting to prove themselves in the US. Most people didn't see them as real artists and refused to acknowledge their talent. So yes, I would call them underdogs in 2017

9:08 Their label Hybe does have a US division. They also recently bought Ithaca Holdings, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande's label.

You have to see the situation at that time, because in 2017, K-pop was the underdog of the global and American industry, not represented outside of Asia, this is not condescension but a fact.
As he said, at that time, BTS was THE heavyweight of K-pop.
It was after their breakthrough in 2017 and their incessant work that they gave more resources and paved the way for the k-pop wave to take root into the US music industry and mainstream.
BTS are not even in their peak right now, at every event - like the Grammys a few days ago - or comeback, a new wave of fans are coming in, and it's constant and growing, their numbers seem endless, so right now, they are still growing even if they are the biggest act in the industry, it's crazy but it seems endless at the moment.
The military "break" don't take 4 years, but between 1 year and a half and 2 years, if the SK government doesn't excuse them from even serving in view of the impact they have.
The former minister in SK had said that they would refuse to enroll them in the army even if BTS would like to serve, and since the SK government had a new election a few weeks ago, the minister changed but even the new government does not seem to want them to enlist.

Lol and why would they? Considering how much the boys contributes to SK's gdp.

@@EvieKng Well, we just had some news on twitter (we get them faster there) where apparently, a HYBE official explained if the amendment is not processed this month then all the members wish to join the military together, all at once.

i agree with everything you guys said except the prime/peak part bc i dont think bts is in their prime/peak yet and i think a lot of people consider bts as underdogs because of how they got to where they are but also majority of people not giving them their flowers or showing them any respect from other kpop fandoms, to western artists fandoms, to journalists and media outlets, tv show hosts, artists and groups, influencers etc no one besides armys accepts them as a heavyweight or as huge artists they all say bots when it comes to the numbers and they ignore the sold out stadium proof. its different when its just stans/trolls but when "important" people within the industry people who have check marks and people who have followings contribute it burrys their success completely its basically you have to become a army or actually care to look into bts deeper to see their success or you just dont see it at all.
that is why to this day people still question bts success because no one is helping army break down the false narratives people have of bts. they call us brainwashed or naïve or delusional for putting any type of positive title next to bts name. like bts paved the way, bts are great artists, bts work hard literally anything armys say to uplift bts theres always someone countering it with bullshit.
all that being said please react to how bts paved the way by bbygangmag and bts hardships 2013 - 2021 by xceleste please react to them

Couple of interesting facts: The pre-order for their 2020 Map of the Soul 7 album was 4.02 million worldwide!
BTS always makes sure that ARMY gets the credit for their success more than BTS themselves. RM said during the news conference for Permission to Dance concert in LA, if their success is measured by 100%. ARMY is 50% of it, BTS each member is 5% (5x7=35%) and their company/management HYBE (BigHit) is 15%. So, his (RM's) own part to BTS success is only 5%. This helps him keep himself down to earth and is important to survive in this crazy industry! Here's the link to him answering this question. ruclips.net/video/RNPGEwuoHQQ/видео.html
