    That bit on how the Chien Pao ban encourages the use of other offensive options could honestly be a fine short. Newer players really need to learn that banning a centralizing threat does not decrease offensive options.

    • @CubeBizz
      @CubeBizz Год назад +26

      Does not NECESSARILY decrease offensive options. Think of a situation where a wall can only be OHKO'd by a single pokemon in the meta and said mon gets banned. But in a situation like this where sweepers are competing for the same slot in the team, the strongest naturally gets picked, decreasing the viability of the second best option

    Adding broken mon to the meta DECREASES the number of pokemon you can choose from. It might be counterintuitive, but the explanation is that if you want to check those OP mon, you're narrowing the pool of mon that can deal with them: you end up with "cookie cutter cores" and lots of pokemon don't get used because it's not worth it

    Flash fire is really good on bulk up sets, since you keep the fire and will-o-wisp immunity after changing type with tera. I recommend trying tera bug, since neither flying or rock are huge offensive threats in the current meta, and it covers your base typing’s ground weakness when going up against great tusk and the like. Tera grass does this too, but there are a lot more relevant weaknesses tied to grass like poison and ice that make the set a lot more vulnerable. Using covert cloak to set up works well too, since you can tank salt cures from garg through bulk up.

    Flash Fire Ceruledge can work similar to annihilape (ghost type, similar stats, 10 more base spdef for just 5 less speed and lower hp which isn't a big loss when u use hp draining moves) With stab recovery, with max spdef evs, a couple bulk ups, flash fire tera bug it becomes very hard to deal with, most people doesn't carry a strong rock or flying stab and if you don't OHKO it, it's gonna keep healing and destroying/chipping your team constantly specially if it gets flash fire activated: Bulk Up, Bitter Blade, Close Combat (garganacl can be a threat, but u can use covert cloak) and X-Scissor (meh), Shadow Sneak or Taunt (all of the most common toxic users are slower and can be taunted just as annihilape could, and protects from whirlwind/roar), with flash fire you forget of the most common bug weakness and prevents getting burnt, turning a weakness into boosting those bitter blades even further, 2x Atk from a bulk up and flash fired, bitter blade can tear up any fire resistant mon.
    I love it, truly love it, I'm not a fan of using setup mons, but i truly like this one even more than Annihilape, the biggest flaw is lacking a strong ghost stab to deal with pelipper and azumarill (the only 2 mons that may break the strat specially spatk pelipper, the rare dragon tail garchomp can be dealth with CC although a third bulk up previously might be necessary, still most prefer roar with lots of hatterenes around and no soundproof mon in OU) if it had poltergeist it would be Uber material (so better not 😅)

    Your point about Chien Pao was really good. I think this is ultimately why I think Pokemon like Gholdengo and Garganacl should also be suspect tested. I truly feel they overcentralize the metagame, in ways which make things less interesting overall. Gholdengo hard-counters any pokemon that relies on non-damaging moves, and Garganacl is just too efficient a wall to make any other worth using by comparison.
    Neither of these pokemon are unbeatable, by any means, but I feel they unnecessarily limit the kinds of pokemon that can feasibly compete in OU. Variety is something that I think makes for a healthy metagame, and as someone who was previously not familiar with the Gen 3 metagame, watching your videos on it has made me really appreciate how nuanced and healthy it was, and I'd like to see the Gen 9 metagame end up in a similar place. Maybe Gholdengo and Garganacl won't be too powerful once pokemon home is released, although I sincerely doubt it in Gholdengo's case, but for right now, I think both should go the way of Chien Pao and make way for a more interesting and varied metagame.

    • @amphibiansriseup596
      @amphibiansriseup596 Год назад +2

      Garg defines should go, but Ghold whether you hate it or not, is a centralizing but good aspect of the metagame. On its own its an amazing Pokémon that can fulfill a plethora of roles from a breaker, spinblocker, speed control, stallbreaker, fairy resist, etc. There is enough checks to it to where its not broken on its own. Tusks is the no. 1 mon rn, has tons of utility including being the best hazard removal, and there is no opportunity cost for running it. Outside of that there is Clod, Gambit, Ting-Lu, Moon, etc. It doesn’t force stale defensive cores like Pao did, it doesn’t force a fat Tera Dark mon like Espa did, and it doesn’t force a Covert Cloak mon like Garg is doing. If you don’t want to run Tusks, you have other ways of dealing with hazards such as Boots spam Teams, Cinder, Treads, or playing to limit their opportunities to get hazards. Treat this as DPP OU, where hazard removal is sparse. I think the only reason people want to see Ghold banned is mostly cause we haven’t seen a force like this since the DS era with GSC Lax, ADV Ttar, etc.

    I'm a National Dex player and I always use Ceruledge as my main sweeper, I run Tera grass bulk up set I've optimized myself, on the right conditions Ceruledge will 1v1 Urshifu rapid strike, Floatzel in rain and beat most Skeledirge sets straight up. I do not understand how this pokemon is RU, I must make sure everyone sees his true potential as a sleeper threat.
    Also, fu** Gholdengo and Espathra.

    Armorouge is better IMO. Ceruledge is easier to stall. No answers for Dondozo. Weak Armor is a bad pairing due to bad physical defensive stats. Too many dragons in OU makes bitter blade overrated

      @@videakias3000 That does buff offense as slow king is a pivot that can bring in threats safely, while also using future sight to combo wombs the pex. its not a good wall as its weak to the best special attacker in OU and physical hits do a number to it. New players always spout “stall” whenever they see a defensive pivot.

      @@alexisreal okay maybe labeling it as a wall was an overeaction,but it still is a specially defensive pivot so you can't call it an offensive pokemon.

      @@videakias3000 Its a defensive pokemon that fits on offensive teams rather than defensive teams. It is somewhat of a grey area BUT what it does guarantee is strengthening both defensive backbone as a pivot and offensive backbone with FuturePort which goes hand-in-hand in offense rather than defense. I would say it is a unique kind of "offensive" Pokemon.
      You'll rarely see the Slow Twins in defensive teams, there is seldom need for FuturePort or a Teleport Pivot.

    I’m not subscribed because I’m interested in vgc and smogon players keep saying “competitive Pokémon” as if OU is the main competitive format. When we all know the oficial format worldwide is vgc.
    So please use the correct tittle. “Smogon singles”

    Ceruledge is exactly the type of Pokemon that would be sick in an earlier Generation. Say, 2 or 3 when they barely had Ghosts at all, let alone Physical attacking ones.
