    37:23 - "Fire's not looking the best" - my dudes, that shot was done by making a shrunk model of the hallway turned upside down, and filming ACTUAL REAL FIRE spreading from the elevator shaft. Isn't it ironic how in movies nowadays we are so used to only seeing flashy CGI fire, that actual fire doesn't look "real" enough to us anymore? :)

    The reason this movie might feel cliche is because it literally defined the genre after it came out. Everything that came after was copying the matrix.

    “I’ve seen that guy before”- yeah it’s Laurence fishburne! He’s been an A list actor for decades and his first major film was as a young teen in apocalypse now

    The visuals and stunts aren't supposed to look 100% convincing. The subtle distortions hint at the artificiality of the matrix.

    "One of his first big movies right?"
    Nnnnooooo....
    Keanu Reeves had been a movie star for decade by this point. Bill and Ted is a successful franchise that JUST dropped another installment last year. He became an action star with "Point Break" and followed that up with "Speed," the most successful of the many Die-Hard knockoffs that were popular then. And although he was roasted pretty well for being miscast in "Dracula" he showed us he could do drama opposite Al Pacino in "The Devil's Advocate," all before The Matrix.
    "It's 20 years old, I'm expecting it to look terrible"
    It actually still looks better than the new one.

      @@godabandonedthistimeline I remember seeing Keanu in A Walk in the Clouds (1995) people always knocked on him for his acting. Some called him the neutral mask, ya know for a self insert character when ya watching a movie. "Whoa" being his catchphrase no matter where he goes. Now seems like finally everyone loves him.

    • @godabandonedthistimeline
      @godabandonedthistimeline 4 месяца назад

      @@jayeisenhardt1337 Keanu Reeves is successful because of his personality, his dedication and his talent in martial arts. His acting isn't the best but there are directors that know how to help him and there are others that don't.

    Why would you expect a 20 yo movie to be horrible? There are lots of movies from the 1930s thru the 80s which are amazing by the standards of any decade.

    • @RaggedyPack
      @RaggedyPack  2 года назад +4

      We thought it wouldn't look so good because cgi has advanced a lot it the past 2 decades. Visually it exceeded our expectations. Story wise it would be the same no matter when it released. A great movie for sure -Corey

    "Who's the Tekken guy who does the breakdance fighting?"
    Eddy Gordo's style is *Capoiera.* It's a Brazillian martial art created by slaves. The crazy acrobatics are because their hands were chained so they learned to fight with their feet. They practiced to music so the masters would think they were just dancing. There was a strong anti-slave resistance in Brazil, where escaped slaves would form their own communities that would mount raids and attacks on Portuguese colonists. Breakdancing was heavily influenced by 70's kung fu movies which were popular in the grindhouse theaters in NY where hip-hop developed. When they discovered Capoiera they started incorporating a lot of their moves.
    "That fire looks terrible"
    That's REAL fire - that's a real explosion shot with a high speed camera and flipped upside down. The only CG element in that shot is the bouncing door.
    "Who comes up with that?"
    Well Plato originally, it's the "Allegory of The Cave." The idea that if you were born in a cave and trapped there, and someone out of your vision casts shadows on the cave wall, you would believe those shadows are reality and that they are ALL of reality and that there's nothing else. The false-reality concept was in two movies released the year before, "The Truman Show" and "Dark City" which is VERY similar to The Matrix in a lot of ways. (All coincidence, both movies began production around the same time) There's an 80's anime called "Megazone 23" with a similar concept and some similar visuals, (Mechs vs robo-squids). A classic Star Trek episode ("Spectre of The Gun") had the crew trapped in a false reality that could be defeated with a similar mind-over-matter understanding and defiance of the simulation. And there's a classic Doctor Who episode (The Deadly Assassin") where he goes into a VR environment that is actually called a "Matrix"
    The stories of Phillip K Dick ("Blade Runner" "Total Recall" "Imposter") explore the nature of reality, illusion, memory, and all the ways *your* reality can be altered or manipulated. The red pill is from Total Recall.
    The Wachowskis also openly admit to being heavily influenced by Ghost in the Shell and other classic anime, as well as 90's HK action. They hired Yuen Woo Ping, the choreographer of "Fist of Legend" and "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" to train and choreograph for their cast.

    "The movie is not bad", told tha guy? This is the best movie ever, and I'm not talking about the CGI. The best part comes after seeing it. Day by day you'll realize that what it tells is totally real. Wellcome to the real world, and have fun 😎

    I have never seen 3 people at once that are so clueless about Lawrence Fishbourne. I find that almost impossible. He's been a working actor at a top level since 12 years old. He's Lawrence Fishbourne! It's almost like more knowing who Denzel Washington is. You guys need to expand your movie genres. This is saying something about you and it's not good.
    Check out Boyz N Da Hood, Whats Love Got To Do With It? Deep Cover, The Color Purple, Just Cause, Higher Learning, Predators, Mission Impossible 3, Mystic River, Assault on precinct 13, Contagion, Tuskegww Airmen etc.. Lawrence Fishbourne is a highly respected actor. Be open to watching ALL types of movies.

      RUclips is generally pretty strict when it comes to copyright. Corey experienced that when editing this video. So if you don’t want to sub based off that then that’s fine, but if you want the full length reaction, head over to our patreon ;). You’ll still have to provide your own movie though because we may be the raggedy pack but we are not pirates - Blake

      @RaggedyPack youtube is an enigma to me. I understand the copyeight issues but I don't understand how others can react to the same movie without such a heavy cut. It doesn't seem consistent. I also see this was a year ago and it appears that your editing has gotten better. This really was a heavy handed cut.
