This P38A is a very reliable SUV and way ahead of its time. Mine is petrol fed and has logged more than 70,000 miles on its odometer. Today, it remains a head turner because I have been looking after it like my own family. My buddy is a 1996 HSE model with a RIoja red color. Superb!
Just brought mine up from Cambridge and got 35mpg and that's genuine worked out on a calculator. Says 38 on the trip computer. Also last winter I was overtaking xc90's in the snow and ice on the hills. Stunning cars and gaining value. Look after them and they are well reliable as well.
All the negative comments. Doesn’t matter if it breaks down /over heats or has suspension problems Once you own a rangie be it a p reg to the later models there’s just something about them that gets you hooked
Rc 2018 mate this is so true even with all the problems my p38 has given me there’s a massive amount of respect people give you when they see you in it and the comfort of them is like your favourite arm chair
@@domslev7769 totally agree. Only had mine a few months 1998 2.5 DSE. Already on a massive learning curve on repairing. But what an absolute pleasure to drive.
Chris Sutton have you had many issues in your ownership so far? Looking to get myself a 2.5 DSE at the moment. Would you recommend anything I should look out for? Apart from the dodgy air suspension! Thanks.
Hot start issue. And losing power. But now it's a non starter. Have replaced a few things that were thought to be the cause. Now think it's an out of synch Becm. So have ordered a Nanocom. Fingers crossed this will work. 🤞
I have a 99 with 4.6L gas engine, 224k km on the clock. Runs great and everything works. Running BFG K03 tires on 16 inch rims. Arnott Gen3 air bags and recalibrate air suspension to give more off-road height. Follow all the Defenders in my off-road club without problem. Way more comfortable to drive. Only downside is gas mileage but I have to say I am not impressed with 20mpg from that diesel.
I love mine but wrong engine V8 on lpg is cheaper to run and sou ds amazing. Huge issue is the cars brain switches on by WiFi and radar not great if you leave it at the airport. The start up each time drains the battery you can do one in a night. Easy fix find the antenna for the key fob on the side window and disconnect it.
Theses are well underrated for the money yes they go wrong but if you can work on them they are easy to work on I managed to change all the air suspension bags without taking a wheel off (lost the locking wheel nut key at the time)
A friend of mine had one exact same colour, air ride went on it and because he wanted to keep it OEM he couldn't afford the repairs and scrapped it....shame really
Since this video was uploaded the price of p38’s has increased in the USA - on the west coast they sell between 15-25k w/ 100,000 -135,000 mi on the east coast w/ the same miles the price is going up from $3,500 to $5,000 to $8,000 of coarse considering they are in relatively descent condition for what they are - Keep in mind these r meant for the occasional weekend drive to the beach or hanging out w/friends & family On weekends not for everyday commuting, after the run to the beach you have to service the monster twice a month then park It indoors in a climate controlled Garage by 200k mi u will need a new v8 & transmission, it will cost 12k but by then it will be worth 45-60k - this truck is becoming a true classic & it looks & drives amazing when fully restored, I know because I own one & after a new paint job & all terrain tires by good year everywhere I go people compliment me on the truck , I even had a NYPD cop pull over when I was washing the truck to ask me about it & he couldn’t believe it was a 97’
@@chrisgreenwood271 you can pickup a Nanocom or a Hawkeye with just the P38 Gems, Diesel or Thor used for that price. Alternatives are the numerous Hombrew P38 Diagnostics which tend to focus on the Air Suspension.

I remember when my family used to have a P38 Range Rover when I was little. I think it was a 1999 model if I remember correctly.

Old school. Love it. Classic shape.
A friend of mine has one and he uses it for camping and trail running and it can go anywhere.
Springs ruin these, keep on top of the air! 👍
Hey Jamie, its got wipers on the headlights ya know !

LPG is good but hard to find a good place to get it
JAMIE, you need to do a TD5 Discovery bro...
02-04?
I've had two td5s and 3 P38's. Plus 30 odd other 4x4's.

Pretty cool cars we've had one in my family for 17 years now and they very capable of road
Own A 1995 2.5DT P38, yes they have issues but so do most cars that age! Oh, & its a manual not auto which can manage over 25mpg ;-)
How funny is that man I was looking at freelander 2s for the reason of daily driver that can go places an Jamie uploads this
What size of tire and wheels are Thanks
Cool car Jamie, I’m picking up a 4 series bmw 2016 tomorrow. You’re welcome to do a review if you want 👍
20mpg bloody hell he needs a emission check at the garage as I get between 28 and 32 mpg depending on what I'm doing?
These are relatively easy to work on and parts are easy to find
What rims are those?
I dislike Land Rover, but i do have a soft spot for the P38 and the Range Rover classics, they may be unreliable but they are cool
Close your eyes and it’s james corden speaking! 😂 Decent video mate 👍🏻
And that's what Rangerovers are designed to do , just waft you along 👍
Vorrei acquistare la macchina se ancora disponibile, quanto viene a costare? Grazie
What about the wipers on the lights?
What bhp are they I'm looking at buying a old one what's the best this one 4 litre or 4.6 cheers
4.6 is more reliable faster and cheaper to tax may get 3 mog less though
I've had 4 diesel varients and with a good remapping the are about 180 bhp. And will leave a discovery v6 diesel for dead ....
A friend of mine had one exact same colour, air ride went on it and because he wanted to keep it OEM he couldn't afford the repairs and scrapped it....shame really
Could you give us the wheel size please
It will break down all the time
And?
Head gaskets never go on these 🙄
Pound Coin Oh they do, trust me
Yeah I know Josh, I was being sarcastic 😂🤣
They actually don't anything else will go tho 😂
@@KnightRider46 isn't that the v8 engine, this is diesel
It's the tatters that matters! !

Yeah it's nice P 38
i want one! hang on, iv already got two.
Doesn't Ed China have one of these
He has an 2007 TDV8 Vogue
Air Springs are only £50 a corner and compressor £120 and fitted in 20 Mins. Ron Box will give it more power. 300 gets you a full diagnostics kit.
Which diagnostics for that money, Nancom and Hawk Eye cost more.

Alan Bellwood I have a sync mate from blackbox, not come across any used full diagnostics for the P38, though I've only ever tried Flea Bay.
@@chrisgreenwood271 If your in clubs and club selling pages or have a saved search on ebay they come up. Also FB market place and shows.
Alan Bellwood thanks Alan, just found another manufacture called Lynx, sent them a message for full details.
Love Range Rover)))
These videos are getting worse 😥
Music is f***ing annoying !!
1500 because it auto, good luck finding a manual cheap
