    Hello John from s Ireland, just saw your video on RUclips and what a great video it is , your a true beekeeper, our family have been beekeeping for 4 generations in a commercial way, I really enjoyed the way you handled the bees, theirs a lot of rubbish on RUclips, I hope people subscribe to your channel and see how its done professional, keep posting 👍

      Thanks David, that is so very kind of you this comment really helps me to keep going as especially as you are a commercial beekeeper I don’t get many subscribers compared to USA beekeepers, if you could share my channel on any forums I would be eternally grateful John

    Thats interesting John and trust all is well. 👍This is the first time in 12 years I have not had to feed. Went to them yesterday and not been for 4 weeks. Had no drones at all for 5 weeks and only one out of 8 colonies with brood in not to bothered as seen all the queens bar one. They were quite tetchy and couldn't find the queen so put a box with an old queen in I had been saving for emergencies on top. So all's good and all set for winter now.
    Kind regards.
    👍

    What a lovely part of the world. Very late to be inspecting, ours have been cwtched up since the apiguard was removed early September in advise of many experienced bee keepers. I'm with you though I love bees, they are fascinating and so clever. Really enjoy your videos

      I agree with you and I only inspect if needed and only if the weather is 18 c and above no wind , most of my hives were wrapped for winter, very pleased you liked my videos that makes me very happy 😃 john

    Hi John, great video again. Sorry you took a sting. Hope the one that got into your veil didn't get you😒 like you I hate it if I squish a bee I always feel guilty. Not been into my hives since I took the treatments out. Weather here in Scotland turned wet but the temps not been too bad for October, up in the teens. Hope Lynn is doing OK. Take care. Avril. 🐝🐝

    Hi been watching alsorts of vids but no one has mentioned what temp you stop feeding syrup, pls tell. Thanks for the vids they are great

    • @johnbeemansaunders6567
      @johnbeemansaunders6567  2 года назад +1

      Hi Emma, first of all thank you for watching my channel, hope you enjoy your Beekeeping, regarding feeding sugar syrup,
      In the UK I would say the end of September you should have your Bees hives full with enough stores to last for the winter 45 lb
      When the temperature drops to around 7 C that is when I would not feed anymore as they find it difficult to keep warm up in the feeder, also at those temperatures they find it difficult to process into 🍯 honey
      So definitely no feeding syrup in the cold weather it can be harmful to the Bees
      Regards John

      Hi Ken, I will spend this week wrapping all mine up for winter, seems with beekeeping we’re always looking forward to next year, hope youse are all doing well, Trust you and your family are keeping away from the virus that’s going around our planet, I’m spending my time now in the bee shed making things, very nice being retired as I have the time, May see you sometime, from john and Lin PS yes her eyes are on the mend great news.👍🤓

    Hi John I have left a super on but want to make sure they have enough honey to last over winter what's the best way to do this as it's getting cold?

    • @johnbeemansaunders6567
      @johnbeemansaunders6567  3 года назад +1

      If you have left a full supper of honey they should be good but to be sure add fondant over the hole on the crown board , spend some time hefting the hive to judge The weight at the moment, hefty the hive each month for peace of mind , it’s too late to give any more Syrup now as it’s too cold for them to take it , really hope it all works out for you . It can be a little worrying beekeeping at times, regards John

    Hi John
    Great video 👍👍
    Need some advice. I've got one colony that I think is queenless and I don't see any eggs or lava
    Do you think it will be to late to combine Providing the weather is favourable?
    They have plenty of stores.
    Once again keep up the vids they are a valuable source of beekeeping information.
    It's also great to here that Lin is recovering well please send my regards.
    All the best John and look forward to the next video.

    • @johnbeemansaunders6567
      @johnbeemansaunders6567  3 года назад

      Hi Mike, difficult giving advice as there can be so many variables, if it was me I would combine soon as possible only if I had a colony that was small and could do with a boost, as you can end up , having a combine failure this time of year. Many beekeepers are successful combining but I tend to leave them rather then take a chance, then sort it out next year one Way or another , but then you can end up with a messy hive , sorry not very helpful , difficult making decisions with beekeeping thanks for your concern regarding Lin , hope you sort it out okay kind regards from john

    Great video John… it’s nice for a change to see a keeper showing bees being wintered with supers on…. Everyone else is always saying to take the supers… I like how you said that the supers are top and bottom…! Please tell me what varroa treatment you used in that hive….
    After I spoke to you last week’ I went to collect a swarm trap that I had left out…. And what do you know..! I had bees in it’ they were far too small for the swarm trap… and they must of been desperate for a home, fortunately the day before I had just finished a nuc that I was getting ready for next season, so I shuck them in ‘ to cut a long story short… I have done my best to set them up for winter and I can only hope for the best… I recon they had been in the trap since late July….
    Great videos John… I would like to see a follow up of the feral bees 👍

    Hi John and Lin...
    Wonderful Footage, John. Good to hear your Eye-sight, Lin, is on the Mend ! Hope other eye mends too... Keep them protected, Dark Glasses Rule ! 😎
    John : Think your Footage should have a 'Owie' screen Graphic !!! 🤭 For that you've been Zapped moment ! (Owie as in Ouch!) I see many USA Beeks shout out 'Owie' in their RUclips Videos !!! 🤭
    Not really a 'WoW' because... 1) You got Stung ! 2) A Bee died.
    John: However... 😏
    "WoW" to all that Propolis in the Hive shown in this Video !!! .... Have you ever thought of Harvesting that Propolis ? 👍
    Take a look 👀 at Trev's Bees (Retired Beekeeper in NZ.)
    Think Ecrotek do his YT Channel now.... He has a great Video on collecting Propolis. Well worth a watch.🤗
    I personally use some of that Green Plastic Mesh, (over Really Propolis Traps.) Check out "Wind Break Mesh", from a Garden Centre, cheap, (and easy to Cut to Size, re Nucs, x10 Langstroth Boxes, etc.) Really easy to add into the Top of my Hives, under the Inner Lids. This Mesh :
    1) Collects the Propolis, and, 2) Barrier to Bees flying up, all over the place, when lifting that Hive Roof. Win, win...
    Simples... 🤗
    Happy Beekeeping 2021
    🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
    It's been a good season here in the Scottish Borders, I made Colonies rather than Honey. I decided to make x7 New Hives via Splits ! This my 1st Year of Beekeeping !
    Think I will be in the Honey🍯 hopefully in 2022.
    Big Thank You for all your informative Videos !
    🤗

    • @johnbeemansaunders6567
      @johnbeemansaunders6567  3 года назад

      Wow , what a lovely interesting comment 👍I do collect propolis when cleaning boxes, how do you sell yours I seen it on eBay ,
      I have watched Trevor bees on RUclips some years ago and liked him very much , will find him again,
      sounds like you’ve done really well for your first season , not may new beekeepers would attempt 7 New hives on their first year, a big congratulations 👏 to you ,
      It will be so nice for you next year collecting loads of lovely honey 🍯, I found beekeeping quite expensive at times so honey money 💰 helps a great deal,
      Next time I get stung I know what to say 👍

    • @ME_MeAndMyBees
      @ME_MeAndMyBees 3 года назад +1

      Hi John, thanks for your lovely kind reply. 🤗
      I've just left the Mesh in Situ, (to get nice and plugged up with Propolis,) it will stay fine in the Hives, until I find a way to use it. 😏 Then Freeze it to 'snap' it out of that Mesh. (Apparently it gets really brittle ) but the Mesh remains intact, so to re-use again. 👍
      Seems Folk in US can access High % Alcohol relatively cheaply. (It needs to be the real Neat Stuff)...But here in Blighty it's expensive !)
      So to make Propolis Tincture, I think it might be a Dinky Bottles worth ! Saying 'Drink me Sparingly' ! It's Medicine. 🤭
      If it's for Topical use, eg to add to Hand Creams etc... you can steep it in Rubbing Alcohol [BUT you can't eat This !!!] ...eg for Sore Throats etc. Personally I don't like Clear Spirits, not my thing...
      Apparently Vodka isn't strong enough to make Tincture. 🙄 So I will need to read up more on the Subject.
      Mind you being in Scotland,
      I do like an odd Dram of Whiskey... A Thimbles Worth !
      Wonder if that, with my own Honey, and a bit of Propolis might keep the Winter Colds or Flu at bay !?! 😉
      Happy Beekeeping 2021.
      🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
      Being a Newbie (New Bee) might have a go at the local Honey Show... Might have enough for a Jar, to enter the Newbie Category... 🤭
      Good luck at Yours ! If Videos were a Catergory, you would Win outright ! 👍

      Thanks for the information, Scotland is certainly a lovely place to visit, we intend to go everywhere in Scotland next year can’t wait, I personally have always been a bit nervous about making cosmetics et cetera in case someone has a reaction, I feel more inclined to sell my propolis in natural form and let someone else make all the money with it, saying that I think it has some marvellous healing properties apparently even good for psoriasis and other skin complaints, maybe if I research very well I may have a go at it , 👍🤓

    • @ME_MeAndMyBees
      @ME_MeAndMyBees 3 года назад

      John & Lin...
      Maybe it would be safer to sell the Propolis re all the legislation these days !!! 👀
      However, sure you could make a Cream for own use. Or maybe an Ointment for the Horses, if they have a Skin complaint etc.
      Take care... Hope Lin gets better by the Day. Dark Glass Rock, as you two are Famous ! 😎
      Happy Beekeeping 2021.
