Pretty great review as always from your end! So helpful, thanks for putting all this work into this and your other videos. You're a invaluable resource for us indie's.
Considering Rokinon is part of the L-Mount alliance and added their 35-150 f2-2.8 to the L-Mount I’m curious if these will eventually hop over to LUMIX Cameras
Thanks so much for doing this review. I feel Samyang/Rokinon have been weirdly low key about the launch of this adapter. So much so I was wondering was there some serious flaw. It should be a big deal I think. Meanwhile the internet is awash with reviews of the Remus - which look very good but a set would be a bit more expensive. Also they are PL and I am on Sony. So costs just start to mount up. I bought the 35 and 75mm V-af 2nd hand in anticipation of this adapter , hoping to have a full set of anamorphic primes at an entry level price point. And I think the primes are very good, and produce very nice results. So I get to use them for more "normal" 16:9 shooting. I was intending to get the Anamorphic adapter but paused while I awaited some decent reviews and some footage that I could trust. Your review here has reassured me enough to proceed with buying the adapter - Thank you PS A comparison review between the REMUS and this Samyang adapter would be interesting as I am sure REMUS have sent you a set? The two systems each add up to about €2500 for a set of three primes.... thanks again for your great channel.
Hi I have no idea what settings to use in FINAL CUT to desqueeze the footage :( I used your aspect ratio calculater but it does not seem right.. please help
I just received mine last week. I own five V-AF lenses (24, 35, 45, 75, 100) because I knew this adapter would come in the future. So happy it’s here now. I am just starting to shoot with it. Mainly with an FX6 and A7RV. I’m using a TILTA Mirage matte box and unfortunately it vignettes at the 35mm taking lens. On the FX6 it’s not a huge deal as clear image zoom helps crop it out, but not the case on the A7RV. I have to do S35 mode, or take off the matte box - and lose the VND which sucks. But, it s a small price to pay for such flexibility in this system. The adapter has made my kit full anamorphic for an overall modest price compared to doing the same elsewhere. It makes for a great travel kit because of this flexibility as well 👍
I have it since one week and I do love it, it's my first step with anamorphic and I find it very convenient and beautiful. I am happy to find an answer in your video, cause I do find 1.55 desqueeze when using it. It will be a bit tough to use on broadcast project if we need to change the desqueeze for each shot, depending of the distance so I will do test for constant desqueeze, like 1.6 maybe. Also, on A7SIII you have some automatic lens distortion correction, and it works spectaculary well on theses lens with the adapter. I would love to see desqueeze correction, but I probably dream too much. Same for open gate, which is probably much more possible. Otherwise, because I am not a big fan of mattebox, you have this particular reference to have a filter thread to put a VND on the lens : 95mm clamp to M95x0.75 female thread adapter from RAFCAMERA. It's so expensive, but it works pretty well. I am pretty sure that if they put "MF" in this lens name, it will be a "AF" version one day. But fore sure it will be expensive, heavy, and maybe not that easy to use, cause already with this adapter, you have to be carefull with the extraweight on your mount. Finally, I am pretty impressed by the distance focus, I dont have the 100mm, I can't wait to test it to see what look you get on 0.7 meters ! What is your final tought about this ? Is there a possible comparison with "cheap" anamorphic lens ?thoses
Stoked for these. I've not been a fan at all of the Sirui products. They lack pretty much every characteristic and beauty of an anamorphic lens, and just carry the squeeze factor and that it. These however look AMAZING.
Hey! I'm not sure if you've answered this elsewhere, but are you going to make a video about the Blazar Remus Lenses? I've been waiting to see your thoughts!
I’d be interested what the results would be on a Venice 1/2 on its hidden e mount under the PL since that does have traditional anamorphic modes like 4:3 and 3:2
Great review overall. Fantastic footage! Two things you didn't cover that might be worth a separate video. First, how to combine spherical footage from V-AF lenses (using anamor-fake methods, maybe) with V-AF anamorphic for creative purposes. It's easy to add a little barrel distortion and edge blur in post, but a bit of amber streak and oval bokeh would be nice. Sadly, there are no E-mount to E-mount adapters, so products like Module 8 "tunable" adapter are not available. But front streak filters, and maybe oval "bokeh" stickers might work. I wonder if any color grading changes would be required. I would hope not. Second, I'd like to see what the "soft focus" mode does, and what situations it might be useful. (All other reviewers have skipped it or dismissed it.)
@10:42 I've been dying to get my hands on those viltrox diopters and to see how they perform. Would love to see a test of them! Want to buy them for my Viltrox set.
Hi Tito, can i ask what do you set your project settings to on timeline and export for this lens, i used davinci and cant get the numbers around my head if you could let me know what you used for this video as i assume it was shot on the anamorphic adapter, thanks :)
Thnx Tito. Do you know if this scope is Asahi glass? Says amount. Will the combo fit onto the 6000 series (6400, 6500, etc) and function?? There are a few sony lenses w/auto focus that actually work as 'auto focus' with adapters attached (most all).. fyi. While the Blazer 1.5 is a dream, it seems this has a wider capability
These samyang vaf lenses are incredible on their own. Nothing comes close to their mix of character, features and build quality fir their price point. I would still say that if you need an anamorphic lens, buy a dedicated one, you can get similar quality ones for the same or less price. But if you already have a bunch if these vaf lenses, oh boy is this adapter great. (Note that I have these lenses, I have yet to buy this adapter yet but this review convinced me that it will be my next camera purchase.
Hey, I was wondering if you could upload a sample clip (even like 2 seconds) of the 24 with this adapter? Unedited, straight from the media. I'm considering a purchase but that one lens is still a mystery for me when it comes to the usage at 2.4:1 ratio
Great MF-ing setup!!…as long as you’re in SONY 😢 When the SIRUI adapter came out, that Alexandru Don guy swore black and blue that if you use an AF taking lens that you now have an autofocus anamorphic setup 😂😂😂
I love my Samyang V AF 24 & 75 and i am very pumped to try out the anamorph adapter. The Samyang VAF Series is a very understimated series of lenses. Remind me of the look of old vintage Zeiss lenses, that means this lenses have character and are not as clinical as Sigma or Sonys Emount lenses. I highly recommend them to filmers
Samyang is the best company ever for low budget film makers. I swear I wish I switched to Sony instead of sticking with the Canon R system because I'm super jealous
5:53 I mean yeah, not cheap, but also not terribly expensive? For the same money as one Vazen you get a set (maybe not a complete one) of these. What we also always have to consider is the price of modern AF lenses, which is hardly comparable to vintage taking lenses used to much in this field. When I buy a Summicron-R for a few hundred it's expensive, when I get just a modern equiv it's usually just the common retail The image sure looks great. And E-Mount only (for now) looks not so great. But damn, I hate that Tally
@@LucasPfaff TAKE OUT THOSE LIGHTS! I had a bit in the first version of the review criticizing all the LEDs, and then the folks at Samyang said "you know, you can just turn them off!". So I took out my criticism. hahahah
Is there any penalty/downside or image quality problem if you use the 24mm in super 35 mode? What is the real difference between having the 35mm vs the 24mm in super 35?
Do you have a tutorial about this process? How to make the transition between 1.7 to 1.5 squeeze look smooth or is it just something extremely hard? I’m gonna give a scenario: you start the shot away from the subject and you slowly bring the camera close to subject and the minimal focus distance. If there is any other video you can share that explains this process will be helpful! My question is quite technical and googling It just gives me unrelated topics
You'll need to set keyframes for the X scale (it goes by different names in Resolve, Premiere, FCPx or After Effects), and know when you're at close focus so you can adjust the value.
Do you guys think this Is this the best anamorphic adapter on the market? How does this compare to other anamorphic adapters? I’m new to anamorphic lenses and thinking of either buy something like a Blazar Remus Or get this adaptor and a vaf lense. I like the versatility of the Samyang but it’s pricey. I wish or man here could make a more in-depth review of how this stacks against other anamorphic adaptors or even actual anamorphic lenses
The biggest issues with this adapter is firstly the lack of filter threads, which limits your ND choices and affordable diopters become impossible to use, and as far as I'm concerned diopters are vital for anamorphic, lastly it's still an adapter and still another thing to swap with each lens change and the price to entry ends up being more expensive buying the adapter and then the lenses separately. compared to Sirui or Blazar, While it's double the value to have Spherical glass that doubles with an anamorphic adapter, that's only good if you like the glass in the first place.
Thank you! I'm just not an audio person and I constantly mess up in the process of recording, or re-recording audio. Apologies in advance for future videos!

Er then it wouldn't be anamorphic. It would just result in a spherical final image with no squeeze.
