Malena is such a masterpiece...
No it's not. It's basically a story about a pervy kid stalking a pretty woman trying to make ends meet as a prostitute as she gets abused and assaulted along the way.
EmptyMan000 You're not looking at the bigger picture here. This movie is a HUGE presentation of society.
EmptyMan000 ummmm wasn’t that kid in the movie 13 or 14 at the time in real life
EmptyMan000 and they were like in there 40s and 30s
Serenity, you don't need to show one women getting abused to kingdom come to make a statement on the foibles of society Don't tell me what I'm not looking at. The film was glorified schadenfreude on its best day. Oh and yes, Chi-Chi, that kid was thirteen or fourteen at the time he was being felt up by naked adults. Another grievance.
she's so well-spoken and eloquent
In real life, many people do think Monica Bellucci is the most beautiful woman they’ve seen. The only difference is that they aren’t jealous, they support her for it.
Yes because she has a classy kind of beauty (and demeanour and atitude in real life) that is not vulgar. That makes it difficult to dislike her or be jealous of her beauty because she carries herself so well. She does not boast about her looks or behave like an attention whore like the Lardashians.
Monica Belluci is honestly more than just a pretty face. She’s incredibly intelligent and really came to this role very well prepared to genuinely make it relatable. Not many many can genuinely played Malena as convincing as she did
I tend to agree based on these interviews. "Women only existed through men" is a pretty profound observation.
I can listen to her talking English all day
Oh yes.
Melena movie shows what society is
BELLUCCI is BELLUCCI!
The definition of beauty for all decades

Malena is one of my all time favourite movie. First time I watched around 2006 and till now I guess I have watched it more than 50 times. Love Malena n love Monica 💖

Malena is about a woman who is "love" in the eye of a young boy, but a object to all men because of her beauty.

This Movie was magnificent
She is perfect in all: face hair body voice style....
Que bien lo explica! 😍
She is great actress and she is so pretty, beautiful face wow.
I wonder how we can distinguish love from objectification after listening to Monica Belluc's argument at 1:00, if the men stare at Malena the whole time, and the boy stares at her the whole time, and the only distinction seems to be that the boy cannot have her. Most of the men cannot have her either. And shouldn't love be something different from simply not being able to have her? If that would be true, wouldn't that mean that she can never have a man that loves her?
So, what if we define love as something different? A long-lasting connection between two people, for instance.
Then maybe that would be something that Malena could not have in that environment, right?
Or what if we define love possible as one-sided, but that it must be about the desire to give and the desire to connect, not the desire to have someone?
I'll watch the movie to find out more.
I thought the same! The boy only "loves" her BECAUSE she is beautiful and desirable. I think the director and the viewers see her as an "object" too. I felt very uncomfortable almost all of the movies.
I agree but I think the difference is that the boy respects her and defends her. You can see that he dislikes the way she is treated by other men and women, and at the end of the movie, he makes sure her husband finds her so that she can be happy with him.
You should watch the movie again if you're wondering that. The boy is the only ones who respects her and love her enough to protect and help her to be happy from a distance, even if it means he will not have her, and not even to be noticed by her. Malena gave herself to other men who wanted her, and still none of them treated her right.
I love this movie ..

this movie was great to watch unfortunately renato couldn't be with malena after all he did but i understand the message and what he did for her husband was respectful i would love to beat shit out of the whole town for how they treated malena , sick and jealous perverted men and disgusting jealous women, I would like to see a sequel to this movie definitely following the same plot but with renato older and still obsessed with malena, I want to see them live a happy life together because I believe he can take care of her and show her his love for her in a way other men cannot
Yes, I’d love them to do a sequel just like you described. I’m pretty sure Renato loves Malena more than her husband does.
@@Nivimary I’m glad someone agrees

When I first heard that people of Northwestern European cultures looked down on Southern Europeans, considered them of another race and excluded them from the label and racial construct of being "White" in America, it seemed inhuman. I have always been of a mind of equality and diversity, fled a homogenous culture seeking out differences, and have lived for 24 years in one of the most diverse US cities. But now after so many years, I can see why and how these distinctions came to be. Misogyny has been a problem worldwide, but there is definitely a continuum. Now we can see that the highest quality of life for women is in Scandinavian countries, where arguably the people are the "whitest," followed by Switzerland, Germany and Canada. It is the worst in Africa, then India, then the Middle East, onward and upward, literally matched to race and geography.
I grew up in a place where there was a great deal of Democratic Socialism and equality was key. It was a region of the US founded by majority German and Scandinavian people. The common sense and logic inherent in those cultures made for a place where people were safe and helped one another. The contrast is obvious to me, having lived away from it for so long. Being in many relationships and friendships, 2 marriages with men who hail from countries closer to the equator, they are comparatively far, far worse. The way Sicilian men behaved was abhorrent even for the 1940s. These people are some of the worst on the planet in terms of ignorance. The mafia and all the destruction and pain that has arisen out of this tiny region has been enormous. Their food may be good but they have been far behind in evolution. This movie broke my heart, an unimaginable existence, and not so far from what Monica Bellucci actually experienced growing up in an Italian small town.
To fully appreciate the film one has to understand not only Sicilian society at that time, but also just how tough it was to live under Nazi occupation. What gives rise to the most distressing scene in the film is the heroine's sleeping around with German officers. Most european women of that era would not have been seen dead even talking to the enemy. That went for my grandmother being wolf whistled by German PoWs to those enduring the privations and petty humiliations by the cruellest of conquerors. I think Vincenzoni would expect us to understand this. Some of those women who attack Malena would have lost their men to enforced work details where their husbands would have been pulled off the street and sent to some obscure part of the reich to work in a labour camp where, if they did not fulfil their quota they would be shot for sabotage or just killed in reprisals. Many did not return. I love the way Tornatore subtly removes the sheen from the village in the post war scenes, the spectacle of prisoners hurrying across the tracks, cuffed to one another and easy to miss.
how old was she?
she was 36 in 2000
Yeah and the kid in the movie was 13 14 at the time
*Chi-Chi Man*
Really? Oh god... That isn't very right. Are you talking about the actual kid, Giuseppe, or the character that is being played?
*tristan beaumont*
If he's 16 then there isn't much of an issue. I was only worried at the fact that he might've been 13/14 while shooting this movie and, doing and seeing some of the things he did. If he was 16 then that's fine, but if he was below that, then it would be worrisome. There is a reason there is an "Age of Consent". And it doesn't matter if the kid in question has the "hots" or not.
@@gileve1205 no he was 16/17 during this time but in the movie he was 13

She reminds me of Gal Gadot !!! Her voice as well wow
Most beautiful woman

"Pareces loco".No entiendo.
