What a fantastic video. Im so glad I came across it. I moved to WH in 2021 so Im unfamiliar with the history, but this was a great retrospective on the state of downtown. Thank you for this.
I WILL ADMIT I WAS NOT A FAN OF SIXTEN AT FIRST BUT NOW THAT I UNDERSTAND THEIR MISSION BETTER I WELCOME THEM AND EXCITED TO SEE THE CITY THAT I LOVE GROW!!
Bit late to this video but as Christmas just wrapped up, just want to say it was very sad this year. Felt like there were no decorations downtown this year.
As a resident of Winter Haven the transformation in downtown businesses has been amazing. Starting to be some great spots to eat and shop. Gourmet goodies did our wedding cake we love luciles, lots of interesting murals are being added as well, Defintley a lot more work needs to be done in the area and the whole area is hitting a major housing crisis for service workers, Judging by your channel you seem to be a local would love to get together some time break bread with you and talk. Regardless earned a subscription and a like I see you got some more videos for stuff in the area hope you will reach out back be blessed
I mean no disrespect to the gentleman, but I think you asked him the wrong question. I think a greater controversy is not that six/ten owns so much of downtown, but that they are heavy handed with the rent increase on small businesses. We just lost a major restaurant. How does six/ten explain the rent increase in the way it was executed? Yes inflation, but the increase includes a percentage based off of business performance of the tenant. If six/ten wants Winter Haven to continue to trust them, we need to trust they are supporting our small business owners.
@@Christianclay I understand but I have an anecdotal, around the watering hole, soft underbelly intimacy with the situation downtown. There is a growing distrust of Six/Ten. There are certainly people very excited for the future, but many small business owners are keeping professional and quiet about their concerns
@@Christianclay I checked your channel; maybe you could provide a link. I'm not trying to be rude, but as someone who owns and operates multiple businesses in downtown Winter Haven and works with SixTen directly, they are not "for the people" like they portray themselves. Numerous local businesses have closed in the last 6 months, and every single one is still vacant.
Thanks for another great video. So nice to know what's going on in winter haven. Let's compete with Sanford and Lakeland lol. Bring more infrastructure ,we definitely need some more.
Perception is everything, as a realtor your opinion is based on your perception of future profitability for yourself. However, that's not what we see for those born and raised here. I see the influx of people and development in this city as a detriment to those who have been here and helped build this town. If any of these investors wanted the luxuries of Orlando then they should have moved to Orlando furthermore, it was apparent that the former city administration didn't want the changes they saw these investors were going to bring. The pros of all of this development are only seen by those profiting off the growth, to the normal person they are seen as traffic, overcrowding, high cost, and a loss of historically significant landmarks. I also love hearing people not born in this state and this county tells me how they love the growth, once again if you wanted growth move to Orlando. Why would this guy state that he wants to build and help local businesses but didn't support the local restaurants when he was "driving to Orlando to have dinner". Orlando has become one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation outpacing its income to cost of living ratio. All of this growth and development hasn't increased median incomes in Winter Haven. In fact, the cost of living has gotten so bad that native Floridians are leaving the state in droves due to the pure expense. This video was a beautifully shot sales pitch trying to encourage people to move here so you can sell them reality as well as trying to change the local public perception of SixTen. The only thing I would have added to drive the point home would have been to have this 610 rep petting a cat like a Bond villain.
Lol I respect your opinion. I’m glad you’ve gotten something out of it. To be honest Winter Haven is the smallest portion of business. It would benefit my sales more to do other cities that benefit my business. Regardless I see the growth happening here and I’m glad I was able to speak to the people that are making it happen.
I've met Joe (I am the camera guy and brother of Christian)and I was skeptical of him before I met him. Me and my brother made sure to ask questions that would reflect what 610 was going to do for the people as they expand the Winter Haven we all love. After meeting him I now understand that he is a great guy and has brought much needed change to Winter Haven. The more small businesses that come in always help other small businesses, and he has given many middle class Americans to be able to own their own business. Grove Roots, Haven Coffee, all of these people have been great and helps everyone in Winter Haven to have more places to visit. We actually grew up in Polk County, live here and remember when Winter Haven had nothing but Big businesses like Starbucks, and ChickFila. I would much rather support our local community members than multi million dollar corporations and 610 has made that happen.
@@jordanshotit3967 Far enough, I not blaming 610 solely for our current situation. I am however contrasting the difference of enhancement vs transformation. Enhancement is renovating a building to make it more appealing and functional. Transforming is destroying a historical build so you can construct a build that makes you feel like your some were else. If there intention is to incorporate the existing downtown and surround buildings and modernize that's fine, but they are removing 100 year old oak trees to build a parking lot for a high rise apartment complex. I am salty about all of these people coming to my city and county and acting like they are back in their home state.
Another thing you can do with that is get me in there and I will sell smoked chickens, yah im in MA but I grew up in the foster care system in central fl and I learned how to smoke there , learned everything I know thats a skill in Fl , and someday Im going home.

I think they've done great things and look forward to future developments! I hope they also consider doing projects in Lake Alfred as the population starts to boom there too with the proximity to I4
I’m all for improving any location , it’s the horrible traffic that is making it not worth it . Central Florida is growing way too fast . To many people for sure . Now improve an area without increasing population would be great . Bringing in more people to central Florida is just plain silly . It’s not about a housing issue in central Florida . It’s to many are trying to move into an already cramped area ! It’s so far away from trying to improve a location . These apartment complexes are going in because of the profit to be made right now . Nothing more , nothing less .
That isn’t an argument. Also Trump is based in Florida, a state that massively supports him, why are you supporting him but bashing Florida one of his biggest supporter states? Also if I say you’re mid as a person or where you are from is mediocre how is that proof it is? Why are people so shockingly stupid? Are you from a flyover state that no one ever talks or cares about and that’s why you’re jealous or are you from a terrible leftist state that’s a complete mess?
I’ve noticed most who use emojis to get their emphasis their point are quite often just immensely stupid people. I mean sure it’s not crime ridden San Fran or LA or Chicago. It’s hard to be an absolute dump at the level of a fart left state. I have a feeling wherever you’re from sucks and that’s why you diss other places. Or you’re just insecure and dumb.

I was thinking of leaving Miami to go to Winter Haven and came across this video. Wow. I'm a fan now. Love how informative this is. 🎉🎉
Suggestion- in Japan they have some streets that have an awning above that helps shade and protect from sudden rain. Why not do that?
Honestly that is greatly needed

Yes, this exactly. I wonder why he didn't interview any small business owner that rents from SixTen directly 😂...... oh I know
Great comment but if you check the channel you will see multiple interviews with multiple tenants that have small businesses downtown.

We need something like lake excelsior Minnesota here.
I need to check that place out.

What about the SINKHOLES in Winterheaven? I heard that the land is not safe.
About 20 years ago there was one in a Kmart parking lot. Totally forgot about sinkholes until now.
Loved the episode! I love winter haven!
Thanks Mrs Shotit!
Saving trees is important!

Downtown should have a LOT of apartments, businesses, stores restaurants. Then the city is alive. Leave suburbs out of cities
💡
it would be great if it was safer to walk around downtown first

You are in good hands in your community. I would expect much from a commercial standpoint but you can get to everything
Not so sure about those rural areas, Too far from civilization.
What counts as civilization to you?
I wish I knew what civilization this person is talking about. Maybe he or she is from a different civilization.
Why worry, go take a look and maybe buy a house there, it may do you a lot of good. I am Floridian, go figure!
