The Glencadam 10 is exceptional. It is the whisky I go back to when my taste buds become jaundice by inferior bottlings that really ought to be great, and many reviewers say it's great, yet I find it disappointing. Is it me or does the King have no clothes on? I reach for a bottle of Glencadam 10 and sit there enjoying its simply natural wonderfulness. Then I know it's not me and I need to trust my taste buds more when they tell me something isn't good.
Glencadam is in a class of its own for the price, and as such, in my opinion it should have broken that all important Ralfy marking barrier between an excellent whisky and an exceptional one. This 10 YO is without doubt the greatest example of an exceptional single malt within everyone's budget, and really should have got 90. Just my opinion but I was disappointed with your 89.
Incidentally, here in Israel it is certainly not cheap!!! Tomintoul 10 is 150 shekels. Deanston 12 is 200 Shekels. Old Pulteney 12 is 200 shekels. Glencadam 10 is 260 Shekels! (The 15 YO is 400 shekels and the 21 YO is 900 Shekels). Priced way above what in London would be its rivals.

Some people see good reviews and go buy a case instead of just buying one bottle and letting other malt mates get some to try and enjoy. If the secondary market somehow took a hit maybe we would see less of that. Unfortunately too many people are still willing to pay too far over msrp just to get a bottle that will never live up to the price point.

It's about 3 years ago I worked down the road in Stracathro, stumbling on Brechin where the distillery is. I tasted it in a local hotel and instantly loved it. The next day I arranged with them to stop by and pick up a bottle. No middle man, full money going back into the distillery. Great value bottle in my view.

I couldn't agree more with you Ralfy. Personally I prefer quality over quantity all the time, and when I'm about to buy a new bottle of whisky I always try to search for new flavors. In fact, it's almost a great event because as I drive very frequently, there's not much free time for me to enjoy a spirit. And also, when I do, I just have a glass or two when reading or watching a movie, so I drink it quite slowly, enjoying the flavor and searching for those aromatic notes. I know my case is maybe a bit of an extreme, because a bottle of whisky can last me about 8 months or 1 year at that pace. This is also because I don't have a single bottle, but about two or three already opened, so I rotate them depending on what kind of flavor I want to taste that time. Thanks to your channel I've learned a lot of details on how to taste single malts. Best regards from Uruguay! I hope you have a Merry Christmas!

I agree. I love honest reviews of whiskies that help me decide if I should spend the $ and get a bottle or not. I have noticed that if there is a bottle with a high score or a great review, those prices jump and bottles become hard to find. It's the supply and demand based off of reviews. We need reviews to help guide us but then the other side of it, the review affects the demand and price if that bottle. It's a tough one to deal with.

Been drinking whisky for around a year (and I'm 40, just never got to it before). Definitely learning how to drink. It's usually a couple wee drams but it all tastes so good that I've been drinking those 2 wee drams most days. Working on bringing it down to a max of 2x a week. It's all a learning experience (problem when you start to understand the whisky, you want to have more to appreciate what you just discovered).
Just ordered a bottle of the Glencadam 10, it's really warm here in Brazil specially this time of the year and Arran 10 is the only "summer" dram I had. Glencadam is supposed to help on that front :)

It is really tasty at such an affordable price, best value for money bottle I've bought this year. I am now wondering whether to try the 15yo which is priced more comparably to other integrity malts in the market. Would you say the price jump (with 5 more years of maturation of course) is worth it? Thank you for all the information and education.

Many questions from this episode Ralfy, very interesting one. Question, are there any examples of where a distillery has been "brought under the wing" of a larger distributor/company that are a success story? Success being defined in this question as the integrity being maintained without the price going up substantially? Might be a good topic for a review.

I respectfully disagree on this one. Very light flavors, bit sour, but imo is extremely spicy and drinks well over the stated ABV.
This is a case in point that nonchill filtered and natural color doesn’t always relate to good single malt.

I've only ever found the 10yr and I really enjoyed it! When I shop now I look for non-chill filtered / natural color over anything else because of you Ralfy. I teach others about quality over quality as well, which was a lesson I had to learn for myself having spent alot of time in bars and clubs where taking shots of whiskey was the only way I ever knew. Now I find myself complaining that a bar doesn't give me my whisky in a proper smelling glass! Ha ha.

Ralfy, the whisky world is changing very fast. The price tag, the way of collecting whisky etc. Can you talk about an updated version of looking after our whisky collection (just like whisky review 515)? I am from Hong Kong, our average temperature is 30°C and humidity 70-90%. Beside from keeping the bottles away from sun-light, in a dark and unreachable cupboard, do you have any suggestion for us? Do I need to place desiccant in the storage cupboard? I'm a big fans of your channel and keep learning from you and civilized malt-mates around the world. Cheers!

Glencadam is relatively difficult to find in the central parts of the United States. I’ve only been able to get two expressions. The older official bottlings are few and far between. I’ve seen maybe one at a time on shelves. Never more than one bottle of 18+ releases.

I actually liked this one better than the 15y. Lighter, more citrus, summerwhisky.

Old Timers livin on their todd.. Bottle a day and a fifth of a bottle in the pub to boot.. Anyway nuff said.. Like as like I'm always on the lookout for a change of "scenery".. Thus far I'm mostly enjoying Talisker 10. Oddly enough.. I'm more in my element having a dram in the pub.. Although I'm out on me own in that regard.. Not many know what they're missing out on I suppose. Springbank Ralfy.. Can't come across one Campbeltown in the Celtic whiskey shop in Dublin.. Sad but true...

Hi Ralfy. Congratulations. You are now a verb. Let me explain. The other day I was sat in the kitchen with my iPad revisiting some old reviews of yours from The Bothy. Outside on the patio my wife was chatting to a friend on the phone when I overheard the following: “Tony? Oh, he’s fine. He’s just Ralfing in the kitchen.....”.

Ralfy, have you had the 18 year old Glencadam? Also, I recommend the current release of 2004 Glencadam, from Douglas Laing's Old Particular series
