what a great story! thanks so much for sharing. It's so ironic how pretty much every single element that made "I Should Be So Lucky" a hit, was actually based on nothing but luck.

Oh, and she had already recorded a little ditty called locomotion that was Number one for seven weeks and was to become the biggest selling record in Australia for the DECADE! Then there was the huge audience for Neighbours in the UK. I don't think this little lady was going to just go away, PWL or no PWL!

There is no such a thing called " luck " in it at all. It´s a mix of huge talents came along together, not even by an accident. Kylie was already a fame pro at that time with same pro agents who were searching for a follow-up for her, after she had her first No.1. She hasn't been LUCKY, she worked hard for it. There is also no LUCK to find Stock Aitken Waterman - they worked their asses off to reach their status of the most prolific producers of the late 80´s. That's how they matched. Not by luck. Hard work and hard business put them together.
      You're very true with:
It's so ironic how pretty much every single element that made "I Should Be So Lucky" a hit
but luck has nothing to do with it.

I never knew the whole story. I knew she had flown to the UK to record a song but never knew it was not even written until that day. 30 record labels turning her down based off that record. Well she sure showed them! Over 80 million records sold and was told a hit record would not be possible by a soap star! Look at Rick Springfield. Kylie is still putting out good records today. Her latest record Disco has great material. Kylie is not known for her spectacular "voice" but she has a quality about her that people love. Its almost as if people believed that the character she played on Neighbours was Kylie herself. The "girl next door." That was what endeared her to a lot of people. The second was the pairing of Stock Aitken, and Waterman that made excellent records that sold millions and delivered Kylie to a mass audience.

Kylie did tweak "Locomotion" in London, Great Britain in June 1988, and she became an international teen idol.

They basically humiliated Kylie and are proud of it, probably cos she already had a huge hit on her own in Australia.I have heard them all tell this story over and over again now for the last thirty years or so.

So, it wasn't Waterman that discovered and broke Kylie then? Thought not. Biggest bullshitter in the music industry, and you have to be going some to earn that title. PWL - dance tracks? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
