I used to race Super Stock 71 Demon and Duster 340's back in the 70's in AHRA H/A class. They weighed around 3140 for the Duster and 3215 for the Demon. The Duster ran 11.50's at 122 mph.
My '73 Duster with a Big Block had a 9 1/4 rear when I got it in High School. I think it was a 318 car originally and that rear came with it ? It got thrown out in favor of an 8 3/4. Going to have to look into this. I have an old friend that had a '73 Dart Sport 340 3 speed and I'm almost certain it did not come with an 8 3/4 stock. 8 /14, 9 1/4, 7 1/4 all single track SMOG rear ends of course.
I've got a 71 that's sitting in my garage. Beautiful car. Drag car all of its life never been on the street. Value of these things has only appreciated through the years. I have been beat to death by offers to buy it LOL
Great interview which also helps explain the Stock Eliminator class. My first car was its cousin, a 73 Dart, Slant 6. The weird thing about these cars was the rear tires were closer together than the front tires and they sure looked stupid! But of course the good news is you can put wider rims on the back with no modifications and then it looks just right!
I always move The Springs in but leave the rear Factory wheel tubs in place. You can get 12 inches of rubber under them with stock wheel tubs. The main issue comes with the outer body quarter panel opening. Lot of people just run 10-inch slicks in them which is probably the best route without serious modifications
@@driverinterviews factory appearing stock allows modifications but the cars still have to retain its factory look. It's pretty much the same as pure stock but the factory appearing stock cars are much faster do to hidden modifications. You should come to Maryland international raceway where they set the fastest records and do a couple of interviews

These cars are timeless.
I hope this car can be fixed after that terrible accident a couple weeks ago
Me too. So sad!

Build a stocker!
68-69-70 340's had a 625cfm carb. in 71 on a T.Q. that was of 650cfm replaced it.
Thank you for the info. Good to know.

around 70 GM and Mopar designed their smaller offerings with a wider front stance for better all around handling.
I remember helping them on this car back at Fontana many years ago!
What..rear shocks do u have on that Beautiful A-Body..??
Hi I love watching your videos I was wondering if you ever heard of pure stock and factory appearing stock drag racing
I’ve heard of Pure Stock and entered it before but I did not know factory appearing was an actual class too. What is their rule set?

OMG the rules are all over the pole place for these classes. But my favorite class
Big love! 🙌🙌🙌
That was a great interview, very cool car too
nice 73 , what size rims/tires on the back ?
15x10 is most widely used rim in Stock due to the fact you can stretch the 9” tire a little bit more.
