I almost got this combo kit, but settled for the Gen2 combo kit. The Gen 3 was on sale at Home Depot for $498 CAD while the Gen 2 was on sale for $299 CAD which came with a 5 AH and 2 AH battery instead of two 5 A.H which totally fine for a DIYer like myself.
I just got the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Brushless Hammer Drill and Impact Driver that has One Key, two 5.0 batteries and came with a free flashlight yesterday. Compared to my old Ridgid gen 4 tools I've had for about 3 years now, these feel AMAZING! Not sure if I'll use them as much as the M12 compact impact driver and hammer drill for convenience, but Home Depot had this set as a Daily Special for $299 a few weeks ago. I figured that was the deal I was waiting on to jump ship to the Milwaukee platform! I did get the M18 Super Sawzall earlier this week too. Can't wait to put it to the test! That 12.0 amp battery is no joke!!
James, you are going to be blown away with the super sawzall. P dip a review on that a few weeks ago and was just awesome. Going to put it up against the new Ridgid MEGAMax in a week or two p.o p. Thanks for the comment bro!
Awesome tools. Love the fuel gear. Takes a beating and keeps working. Phillips screws suck balls though. In Canada we primarily us Robertson screws(square drive) they do a good job of staying on the driver(without magnets) and the heads don't strip.
Its so true, squares are far superior to phillips. I learned that when helping my buddy build a deck and we used squares on the whole thing, such a good experience compaired to other projects.
Got these about 2 weeks ago and sold my gen 2’s to my cousin. They are as advertised, small and more powerful then anything on the market. Great vid dude
That’s too funny I just seen I had Two notifications from you on two different videos lol. No I haven’t Noticed today I’m running any hotter, and I was framing in a porch today with them and they work fine, the gen 3 drill is WAY better, the chuck actually holds the bits and it’s so much smaller that your right you will actually use it. The batteries have no change so they don’t seem to run any different plus I have the sawzall and a Skil saw which is way harder on the batteries and they never seem to get too hot. even when I put it on the 7 1/4 inch miter saw (that things awesome FYI)they don’t get to hot So far I love them dude, if that changes I’ll let you know👍

I just got the same kit (no additional battery besides the two included 5ah batteries) for $296 shipped to my door. I have two 6ah high output batteries as well as a spare 5ah for my fuel leaf blower that I can always mix and use as spares. Lemme tell you.. for the brushless line anyways, those high output batteries pack a noticeable extra punch. I had the brushed m18 drill & 1/4" impact set (which i recently sold to a buddy to fund the brushless upgrade) and didn't notice a huge difference in power when using a fully charged CP battery VS a fully charged HO battery. Once I used the HO battery on my 3/8 fuel impact and saw the difference i was sold.
@@ikeyeet8312 thats a steal dude! Laugh all the way to the bank with that one! I personally would've welcomed the saw as a new addition as my corded Sawzall just took a dump.. but heck yeah if you don't need it that was a wise move on your part!
Just got my gen3 kit. Ran some tests on both tools. WOW!!! They are amazingly powerful. I think we have gotten to the goldilocks zone for size and power. Only negative I can think of is the impact driver is loud, but man does it driver screws fast.
Hey FTLAUD, its funny you said that as I was thinking the same thing the other day. I can't really see how they can make these smaller and more powerful than they are right now.
I have this set and I prefer my old surge driver over this impact. I tested with 2 inch screw into 4 inch block of wood. The surge did it smoothly, quietly and easy to control. While the impact just want to mash it in, loud and difficult to control.
Love my gen 3 I wanna sell my gen 2 kit it wasn’t really used my gen 3 is the best and my m12 gen 2 hammer drill and 4 speed impact driver are the best!
Can you fit any bits in the hard case ? I’m used to having these in a bag along with bits so I just grab the bag and all my bits and things are inside already.
Buy the 2997-23 Pack Out guys, it comes with the 8425 PO case and a 5.0xc AND 6.0HO battery Instead of two 5.0xc's. It Can be had for $300-350 and is worth every Penny especially if you want to build out the packout system
I might have to upgrade to the gen 3 set. I have the gen 2 now and love these things. I use them everyday drilling into steel and concrete and I have had them for almost three years and only service I needed was to have the Chuck replaced in the hammer drill. Mine are used heavily. I also have the one key impact and the surge. I love them both but haven't used the one key that much since I got the surge which is super quiet compared to other impacts. But, after watching your's and others' reviews I think I might just upgrade. Great review. Better than the other guys that never put shit to the test, just look at the boxes and talk about them and read specs.
Thanks for the awesome comment Joshua! I will say that these are really powerful, and much better than the gen2. Let me know how you like them if you upgrade.
Just bought the 2804-20(tool only) this week. She's a beast. I agree w just about everything you said about that drill, especially the speed change lever. My lil 2.0s can't keep up w this monster
Do you happen to know much about the M18BLPD2? I've seen an offer for it for £160 with 2 5ah batteries and it seems too good to be true. I can find very little about it online but it's definitely on some milwaukee sites but in EU and Australia only.
Funny you should ask that Joe. I'm actually going to do a review on it very soon! Look for it in about a week or so buddy. I'll have everything you need to know about it in the vid
Hi Paul. I've heard some are definitely having an issue with it not holding bits in. I personally have not experienced that, but I've heard others mention it
Both these tools are amazing, only problem is they should come with HO 12amp Batteries yes they would increase the price dramatically but anyone who buys these as a professional to make money with is going to buy the HO 12AMP battery anyway. Times is money in professional Contracting and Carpentry. Milwaukee make this kit with two of those type batteries and knock off $ 200 when purchased as a kit. Your sales for SERIOUS PRO CONTRACTORS will go through the roof. No one would even look at Dewalt, Mikita, Bosch or any of the other TOYS on the market. Take my 39 years of knowledge and advice ,you won’t regret it !
does the drill actually get unbearably hot during normal use, or are people abusing it with a torture test type of usage? people using it to drill concrete for a long time and shit instead of using a goddamn rotary hammer type tool which was made for that
I think you hit the nail on the head hostility. Most are probably beaten the hell out of them then saying they get hot. I haven't had any issue even when doing what I did in the video.
The drill is insanely powerful, but it has its problems. First, it gets really warm bordering on too hot to handle after only a short time of working hard (120 F measured on the handle and 132 F on the motor casing), although it will keep working without any problems. Second, the chuck on my drill is garbage, wobbly, and doesn't take really small bits like 3/64" at all, so forget about delicate work. Third, the electronic clutch system in screw mode sucks big time. Give me a ratcheting one any day over this. On slow speeds it often didn't engage at all even on lowest setting. Luckily there's the impact screw driver for this. And finally, as you've mentioned, the two speed selector is really stiff, too stiff for my taste,. BTW, this combo ain't exactly inexpensive. The only redeeming thing about this kit is the impact screw driver which is better cooled than the drill, has 4 modes, one of which is really useful for self-tapping screws and works really well to avoid stripping the screws threads, and is superb. Unfortunately you didn't show that impressive mode in your video. I got this combo with a free 5.0 extra battery which made it a great deal.
Some others say that these have been getting hot, but many others (including myself) have not had issues with it. There is a good video that VCG Construction did on this vs Dewalt Vs Ridgid go check that out, you will like it
