I find all of your videos helpful, but especially those that focus on the smaller birds. I’ve very recently brought home a parrotlet that was not in a good situation. He was living in a very small cage in a cold dark room, eating only seeds and losing his little mind. He had plucked himself almost bald when I decided that I could not leave him there for one more day. I know very little about birds, but I’m dedicated to giving him the best life I can, and your videos have been invaluable to me. His feathers are back, we’ve done target training, I give him fresh veggies daily, and we’re starting to explore outside of the cage now. I cannot thank you enough for helping me help Peewee!

You guys really give the confidence to never give up; I can't imagine our flock would be thriving as it is today without you guys' guidance. My favorite video is harder to find because during one of your snake discovery room videos Dave goes over 'a few feathers' and importance cleaning up training on a super insightful list on the whiteboard, it really helped my partner who is new to birds. I find a ton of people trying to jump face first into bird owning so maybe making a video about the cons of birds because I see very few on how the cost is when youre doing it CORRECTLY. Owning a bird is cheap, like a betta in a bowl to people, taking genuine care of it is expensive and takes dedicated time.

So thankful for your retrieving lost bird video. My citron cockatoo escaped a little over a year ago. Thanks to you guys she was indoor recall trained but I didn’t have the means to do any extensive decent training. 4 days high in the trees, and half the neighborhood keeping an eye on her, she flew back to me like she knew how to do it all along and was just ready to go home.

We (my 9 year old) and I watch your videos all the time. She is preparing for her fist bird and is “studying” using your budgie course.
One of my favorite videos was when you introduced the Omlet cage. We purchased one for my daughters future baby.
If I could suggest a video it would be a crash course in all of the supplies that you should obtain before you bring your new bird home like cage, pellets, scales, seed mix, toys, play stand, travel carriers etc. I had to watch multiple videos and compile a list as I would go which wasn’t a big deal but one video could be helpful.
Thank you for everything you do on this channel and Birdtricks kids.

Because it was the first video I ever saw and that brought me to your channel. Funny story I actually had no idea you were bird trainers when I clicked on the video. I was in a bad mood because I was stuck in training with my birds, I was kinda watching it with the mind set of oh this person probably has no idea what they are doing this is going to be terrible. Because I was realizing all the mistakes I was making at the time, and that everybody usually makes the same mistakes. and I just felt so defeated. I absolutely agree with your picks. The only ones I would add are the entire series on the CAG Bean. Mostly because they helped me soooooooo much when I inherited a very timid, but secretly willing, CAG.
The truth is, I'm pretty sure I watched every single video you had on RUclips BEFORE I even had a bird, so when my sweet CAG came into my life I felt (kinda) prepared. I had him targeting the within hours of his arrival, had a sleeper cage, in a private and completely dark room, all ready to go, and even had him converted to the SFS within days. The pellets took a little longer, but it didn't matter, I felt like I had both of your voices in my ear encouraging me to hang in there.
Thank you is inadequate, but there is it. Thank you for EVERYTHING you do. My appreciation, respect and straight up affection for you two - and your entire team - knows no bounds. You changed these two lives and turned me into an evangelical voice for all things BirdTricks and Jamieleigh & Dave Womack (insert angel choir singing here).

Can we have a handling video at some point tailored for small birds? You’ve mentioned a couple of times that you don’t hold their feet, but how big does a bird have to be in order for you to feel comfortable holding their feet? Questions like that.

I have shared my success story before but it was the indoor flight training and watching the video and reading the information about how to recover your bird that made it possible. My bird was flying to me just as I was picking up a package and flew right out the door. I watched her fly 2 streets over and land in a tree. She kept getting startled and flew up higher in each tree and ended up in a huge pine tree and refused to come down. She spent the night in a tree and I went before first light to the tree. At sunrise she tried to come down but ended up in a different tree because she had difficulty coming down that steep of incline. We worked on decline but there's nowhere in my house that's as tall as that tree 😂 Then, A squirrel chased her out of the tree when she was still tired and she ended up in a backyard where I was able to get her. 18 hours of terrified 😰 gripping fear but without the recall training it wouldn't have happened. Thanks again!

It's so much fun to watch you guys do these types of videos. I am always learning so much and it always comes with lots of entertainment from you, and the birds. 🤗 Comet and Tusa are just so adorable. 🥰
    .
I actually have a bird recovery story from many years ago. When I was in my teens I had a small blue budgie, just like Berry. :)
He was about 8 years old when his outside adventure took place. All the years we had had him never anything happened. But that summer our sweet little budgie took a chance and flew out the front door. The door was only about 1 foot open, but that was enough for him to get out. He was a good flyer.
He took off and gone he was, off into the bushes of our neighbor's garden. We called out for him and he called back. We went around the house to see if we could get a little closer from the other side. We kept calling out for him. And now this is where it gets really interesting. His absolute favorite toy was a small round silver bowl, the kind that is used to keep sugar in. It was about two inches in diameter, and it came with a little lid. My budgie was obsessed with this little box. The clanking sound that it made when the lid hit the box was a sound that our budgie couldn't resist. When he heard this sound he knew it's playtime. And it was this little box that saved our budgie when he got out. Plus we had him outside in his cage often so he knew what our garden looks like. These two things were what brought him home I believe.
When we called out for him using the sound of the box to guide him home he found his way back in less than 10 minutes. He came flying and landed under one of the garden chairs on the terrace only a few feet away from the back door of our house. I had the little silver box in my hand and my budgie stepped up for me at once. He let me carry him inside without complains or trying to escape. He seemed happy to be back home but it was obvious that he just had had the adventure of a lifetime.
An interesting side note: he died about one year later; we had to have him put him to sleep. He had a tumor that caused his abdomen to swell and he kept trying to remove it from the outside; he kept causing himself harm. I was unable to be in the room when when the vet put him to eternal rest. My mom was with him when he received his angel wings. It's been more then 20 years, but there are still times when I miss him so much. 💛
All the years we had had him nothing happened, he never escaped. But one year before he died he went on one last big adventure as if he knew and wanted to experience what it was like to fly outside under the sun before he moved on from this world. 💙🦜

I have a Pet Raven named Fate, she is less than a year old, and I am trying to train her to speak. She can be quite vocal, especially in the morning, and is still trying to learn all the wonderful sounds she can make. I have about 13 years of experience with Ravens, or rather, 2 Ravens. Huginn, whom I had for about 13 years passed away last year, broke my heart, and the breeder I got him from had 3 pairs that all gave dud eggs thanks to a Rooster messing with them when they were courting. Another breeder who I thought was a potential, I came to find out actually bought their babies from the other and marked them up in price a couple of grand, so they were out permanently. Fate came as a surprise, from a private breeder whom heard my story about Huginn and me being heartbroken, and being the last of the few his pair had this year, he gave me an incredible deal. So I am absolutely in love with this bird, and want to train her as best as possible. Though Corvids and Parrots are very different, I am aware their are overlaps in their behavioral patterns. With Huginn, he was shy about making certain noises, unless he thought I was not home, or alspeep. I woke up one morning to hearing myself talking in my sleep, but it wasn't me, it was Huginn on the perch next to my bed. My Wife has heard him imitate her saying, "Hear kitty kitty", trying to lure the cat over. Huginn loved grabbing Cats tails!
So with Fate, she recently has bonded heavily with me, and she was so sweet to my Wife for a while, and then she just suddenly started not letting her pet her, and biting. We've been working on it with her, and like Huginn, her favorite treats are Blueberries, and Cheez-Its, so we've been using those while working with her, and we've seen slow, but positive results. She is getting far less defensive and bitey when my Wife tries to pet her. It has been really hard on my Wife, as Huginn wouldn't let hardly anyone touch him, and Fate, when she was younger, let everyone, and she was so sweet about it, and my Wife was so happy that this Raven didn't bite her... That changed, and we are slowly working on it. I do want to learn how I can best train her, and I tried with Huginn, but Ravens are Ravens, and talking to any Raven owner, they'll tell you that they are difficult in a way Parrots aren't. I ordered some recordable voice buttons, so I can't also train her with those. I was recommended your channel by another channel I forgot the name of. So far I am liking what I am seeing, and I subscribed.

Wow!!! How fricking cool!! You must not be in America, it’s against the law to have them here. Cuz I would have one in a hot second!
Seems like the whole permission based training approach would work really well with corvids specifically because of their very high intellect. I didn’t used to be a fan of clickers, but oh boy do I get it now! It makes EVERYONE’s lives sooo much easier because you have a common communication tool. Target training has been key for us too. It forms a very solid foundation on which you can teach so many things.

@@mcdart2606 I do live in the US, and neither Fate, nor Huginn were Corvis Corax, the Common Raven. Mixes of breeds are legal. White Necked/Brown Necked for instance can bring about babies that show the qualities of one, the other, both, or even looking completely black, like Huginn, and like Fate. Although with both of them, if you look at their feathers on the neck towards the base, they are white, or much less dark, and in the right light you can see some of the brown on the back of their necks.
Right now Fate is asleep about 2 feet from me just chilling on my desk. They are incredible, but also very difficult. She has taken to clicker training very well. Since she not even 1 yet, she has decided to intensely bond to me, which has unfortunately made my Wife less welcome around her. However with Clicker training we've been able to fix that. She is no longer acting out towards my Wife. Trick was my Wife being able to be close and pet her, using the clicker, and then giving her a treat, which Cheez-Its become the key. Huginn loved them as well. Not something to ordinarily feed them, but as a treat they work, as do Blueberries.
When Fate was younger she was so sweet to everyone, and to my Wife, which Huginn wasn't. So when I got her, my Wife was so happy that this Raven showed affection, and allowed affection. When that changed, and Fate showed bonding to me, it then threw my Wife to the side, and Fate no longer enjoyed or even tolerated her. Gladly the Clicker training has turned that around to a positive degree, but we are still working on it.

    Reading bird body language.
How important the diet is to your bird. Seasonal feeding system.
Teaching them how to play with toys.
    Getting enough sleep.
    Target training.
I just threw in my personal guesses as to what the top 5 topics would be.
I love the small bird training videos. Thanks for all you do. Gina Hetlage 🐦🦜
