    It´s way more complicated than that. You mentioned the downside, but on the other hand you could quote less mass to accelerate (lighter foot/leg), no fatigue of foot muscles, better efficiency because lack of inelastic deformation (cause by soft foot tissue etc.)
    It´s not as easy as to say, he is disabled so he will always have a disadvantage compared to "complete" sprinters...

  • @toopkarcher4941

    Well you can't really say he has an advantage with the spring from the legs because the other runners have calve muscles to compensate with that you know.

    • @funeralgiggle3771

      @toopkarcher4941 10 лет назад +16

      Funeral Giggle But then he's using his thighs extra is he not? But that is a good point. The advantage didn't pay off completely seeing as he isn't ultra successful.

    • @funeralgiggle3771
      @funeralgiggle3771 10 лет назад +3

      Ochir Erkhembayar I don't know if he is using his thighs extra. My guess is not, in fact, I think he uses them less. Upper leg muscles are connected to lower leg muscles, therefore if half of those muscles are missing, I don't believe the same strain goes to the upper part. At this point is just guessing... I'm certain we will unfortunately see him "run" again when he finishes the ducky quack quack sentence he received.

    So, I am in 8th grade and am the fastest 400m runner at my school. My coach puts me in 2 to 3 400m events (400m dash, 800m medley, and 1600 relay) every meet. My time right now is a 1:01, but I think I can break 1:00 by the end of the season (6 weeks left.) My breathing and lungs are completely fine after the 400m(I used to be a distance runner), just my legs begin burning and then I can't maintain my sprinting speed. Can anyone recommend a good training regimen to help me with my 400m troubles?

      only a little , they weigh a lot less than human legs and don require oxygen and blood to be pumped, they also dont build up lactic acid. So in someways its an advantage in the 400m where lactic acid and musle fatique are critical.

    This was never fair. His legs are not only built to run, they are built to ran on a specific surface with a specific distance. Lower legs are lighter, do not get tired and built for a specific purpose. Everyone else’s legs are multiple-purpose. Walking, climbing, swimming crawling, jogging, running and sprinting. You have to train natural legs to become more specific but, they still have the multipurpose baggage. It’s definitely more of an advantage than steroids

      He also competed in the Paralympics that year. The blades have advantages and disadvantages. There's no way to achieve exactly with blades than an athlete would have achieved with legs - for better or worse in performance.
      Markus Rehm has been fighting to compete at the olympics and with abled athletes in general for years now. He's got one leg amputated below his knee, I believe, and does sprinting and long jump. He's undefeated in long jump for 10 years now and jumps far enough to win medals of any color in competitions with abled athletes. His world record is the 15. or 16. furthest jump ever recorded. A couple of years back, they tried to find out scientifically, if his blade gives him an advantage, but they couldn't find an answer. The blade has advantages and disadvantages, but they couldn't tell which had the bigger impact, so he's still starting in para events.
      It's not like the blades run or jump on their own, there's still a human attatched to it, who needs to be able to use them well enough.
      I personally wouldn't mind seeing blade runners in the olympics.

      All the comments seem to lack the capability of putting yourself at the place of an anxious double below knee amputee that received recent death threats in crime ridden South Africa who got raised by a general anxiety mother that held a gun under her pillows and called the police frequently for suspected burglars. The big picture is Reeva was the direct victim of an anxious man with clouded judgment by fear in a violent society that push people to shoot at their bathroom door in the middle of the night to increase your chances of survival. On the moment, his poor judgment was telling him he was protecting his girlfriend. This anxious boy became the man who pays 15 years of his life the demise of a whole failed transition to democratic nation.

    If people think blades give an unfair advantage, why don't they just amputate their legs and join the blade runners instead, lol 😅

    Kind of unfair. The job of the calves is to spring you back up so you dont hit the ground hard and you can bounce off it. Those springs are basically the worlds best calves. Props to this guy but the last thing I want to see is a bunch of guys with robot legs winning every event 10 years from now.

      hotrodsather "no legs". He has legs and they are superior to anybody else's legs. Even if they are not superior, if we allow these things in the olympics then some advanced technology will win every event and normal people won't have a chance against half-robots.

      What an ignorant comment. As an above knee amputee I assure you he has absolutely no advantage from his prostheses. Every single step he takes requires many times more energy than for those with two meat legs. Carbon fibre comes nowhere close to being as good as human muscle, never mind better! The muscle strain and exhaustion he experiences in his thighs, hips and back are far greater than that experienced by able bodied runners. Sure he can’t strain muscles he doesn’t have but he also doesn’t have the strength and power from them.

    The exchange of bib numbers between runners after the race is a show of respect and friendship between the two competitors at the good race that was run.
    Kirani James exchanged name tags with Oscar, because he said "it is a great honour to run with Pistorius. He is somebody very special to me" That was then . . .

    Don't take this the wrong way, and my hats off to this guy, but; Because his ankles have been replaced with spring steel, he has an advantage over conventional ankles which rely on muscles to do with considerably more effort than spring steel takes to do. It's only a matter of time before an athelet will have his/her/it's legs deliberately removed and replaced with such apparatus as this in other such competitive sports such as high jumping, long jumping, etc etc etc. Hormones are illegal, but prostectics are not.
    If a male is willing to alter there feeling and state publicly they identify as a female and devistate their comptition in female sports, then removing ones limbs and replacing them with prostetics deliberately is just around the corner.

    • @mikeyh0
      @mikeyh0 3 года назад

      I'm not sure an athlete would remove his legs for a possible advantage. Well, not a sane one, anyway. But the point about being unfair is totally correct.

    • @fantastischfish
      @fantastischfish 10 лет назад +38

      Get over it. He came last in his heat, so he hardly gained an advantage from his blades as you seem to be suggesting. He wanted to compete on a par with non-amputees. I'm sure it was a very proud moment.

      @@Quest4Six510 i can't verify his stats but your legs get tired and aren't as tensile as metal, so it's only logical that he has an advantage over runners with calves. As the calves need oxygen and get sore. While the metal legs don't, so i guess checkmate😅😅

    I would think there would be a problem with how the prosthetic is attached to the legs after long runs. I would think there would be significant irratation after awhile at the point where they are attached.

    How can one say they are able bodies and can compete in the olympics then compete in the Paralympics. Not fair

    • @fantastischfish
      @fantastischfish 10 лет назад +1

      What is your problem with this? He got his spot in the South African team based on his speed; he did not take the spot of another, faster athlete. Moreover, if he has such an advantage due to his blades, as others have said, how does it explain him finishing last in his heat?

    • @matthewgrammatico8434
      @matthewgrammatico8434 10 лет назад +5

      It's a contradiction. If you are fast enough to compete with able bodied athletes then you should not be allowed to compete in the Paralympics as well.

    • @fantastischfish
      @fantastischfish 10 лет назад +8

      So someone can have no legs, train hard, become one of the best in the world and be told, "You're too fast, so you don't count as disabled"? What kind of logic is that?
