I've saved this video in my favourites and have watched it many time since the Paralympics. I love watching it, mainly because of that amazing bust of speed by Oliviera but also because of the ridiculous biased comments made by those amateur commentators who never even mentioned Oliviera's name until after he had crossed the line.
Actually he did come out of nowhere, and it was an incredible burst of speed. To say either of those things is not biased commentary. It was a truly remarkable performance and comeback, the commentators acknowledged that

Agreed. As someone from the same city as Alan, I feel disrespected.
is funny to watch this video, because the brazilian made a good suprise, even suprising the speaker, i bet the speaker was looking for Oliveira's name as he show up from nowhere
An incredible and UNEXPECTED victory for the young Brazilian guy here. Amazing "second wind" in that last 50 metres by Oliveira!!!! How the hell did he find so much extra in the tank lol???
If you listen carefully, you can hear the whole stadium collectively gasp. Here is the most-watched athletics video of the London 2012 Paralympic Games #1yearon
The way they ignore the Brazilian in the beginning is almost disgusting. Then during the race he almost ignore the win, a second before the end he still imposing his choice for Pistorius. A bit of ignorance and probably some prejudice involved.
I was just thinking the same thing. They introduced all the other athletes until they got to him and then it was like "Yeah, thanks for coming, enjoy the show" Well, Oliveira had other ideas.
This is way too good! Can't stop watching it! The 2 Bozos (journalists) skip Oliveira during the intro and couldn't even pronounce his name when he crossed the finished line. That was certainly the most embarrassing moment of their professional careers. Love it! :) Congratulations to THE greatest paraolympic runner of all times: Oliveira! Attaboy!
Alan F. C. OLIVEIRA is now the world-record holder for the T43 100m and 200m. There's absolutely no room anymore for any doubts about his potential. In London 2012 he just began to show how great of an athlete he really is. I guess it's completely fair to say he's a paralympic Usain Bolt.
Ppl just dont want accept that a guy like Alan coming from a brazilian village is better than Oscar!! Its just an envy envy world!!! Its Sports ppl,the best always wins!!
the fact that alll these guys are ruuning at that speeds considering their weakness itself gives me goosebumps, let alone someone winning........i can bow my head to these guys on any day!!!!!!!
Yes absolutely for the bio mechanic point, there is symetrie.. it is easier to handle out... How can a genuine leg and a smart designed prothesis work together? they have so different mechanical properties, they could possibly impede each other...
Alan is the real hero. We can't possibly understand the odds he had to fight against, aside not having both his legs. His parents are not rich and he doesn't have million dollar endorsements. He's a Brazilian kid and being Brazilian and a sportsman is incredibly difficult if you're not a succesful soccer player.
They read a tweet! Hahahaha! I'm brazilian and I was completely shocked when I watched this. And then, in the end, they say: "We waited all night to see the greatest paralympic ever and he gets beaten by a 20-year-old brazilian." So amazing.
Regardless of the controversy, they both did a great job. Throughout the Paralympic Games, we could see so many amazing life stories, so many people who face tremendous amounts of adversity... I'd rather leave the little flashes of arrogance to the Olympics. Oscar and Alan, you're both winners!
Interesting how the announcers are subtly trying to suggest that he somehow cheated. A "gear change in a car" lol. We're in a brave new world due to human ingenuity.
guess from now on the best blade technology will win the paraolympic runs. my BIG congratulations to all other participaors which have not this possibilities but great entertainment performances
I was there and I didn't even notice that! Although we were in the middle of the bend near the start, so we couldn't even see that Pisorius had been beaten until it came up on the screen.
Blades are springs. The force needed to deform a spring is: F = -kx where k is the spring constant and x is the distance the spring is deformed. The work energy is calculated: W = -kx² This means (the x²) that for a blade twice as long a person can store 4 times as much energy. So the runner starts-off slow, as he energy-charges the blades, but, like starting off slow on a trampoline, eventually they get increasingly easier leaps which can be quicker if the runner is moving mostly horizontal.
I read in the news about a Brazilian guy coming out of nowhere to beat Oscar Pistorius...I thought I had the wrong race...but then he came out of nowhere!!Amazing!
Gotta love the...idk what the right word is, underdogs. They dont even know your name and you just left them on SHOOK. Reminds me of Brazils 4x100 mens last year. You could clearly see Brazil had perfect baton passes and were right in front, but the announcers just idk...said nothing about Brazil until they actually were at the finish line. Just shook! It was hilarious. And also awesome! So Kudos to Oliveira! Beautiful run!

"came out of nowhere"... "crazy burst of speed, who knows where that came from". Unbelievably awful. The speed came from training hard, maybe?
Actually he did come out of nowhere, and it was an incredible burst of speed. To say either of those things is not biased commentary. It was a truly remarkable performance and comeback, the commentators acknowledged that
