- Another rare TV appearance of the Graduate, the band of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith just before Tears For Fears were created. It must be around 1981. Graduate had their amount of success in some European Countries like Spain (this is from Spanish TV), Germany and Greece. This was their first single from their album.

Roland and Curt always had a special bond. I loved how Roland went over and kissed Curt on the cheek. I truly believe they love each other like brothers. ❤
They grow up together, both have similar backstories and both were close friends since 9y or 11y old. They're like wham! guys but in new wave genre.
Me too and if you watch the videos when they're together for the Tipping Point they now look at each other joke and laugh together again sort of like they did in the early days. Roland even said after losing his wife and other people he reached out to Curt because his bond with Curt is much more than just music and business...its the 13 yr olds hanging out listening to music getting drunk...it was so sweet to see and listen to

How fabulous to find this video of Graduate after all these years. Brilliant! I guess Madness and ska were pretty popular around this time. Big jump from this to The Hurting. Roland still gorgeous 😍

What a fantastic chorus! It has such a great poppy melody. This reminds me of early Elvis Costello and of The Jam.

Roland looked a lot like John Cryer back then. The music isn’t bad but it’s not on Tears for Fears level. They had to start somewhere. Not a bad beginning overall.

I want this early material to be released in a tears for fears box set... I'd purchase it. It's pretty great to see and hear, great music from a favorite band...

It's a bit of a curiosity how Roland and Curt left this atrocious group, had a complete transformation and developed into the incredible Tears for Fears. Graduate? They were fortunately 'sent down' !

@@petermasterson8276 it was of the time and this music was only short lived for a yr or two, there were alot of changes in music style around this time, all great and exciting too.
A sonoridade dessa época do Graduate já era muito boa, mas era meio que comum e não muito original (um estilo que até lembra bem The Beatles). Felizmente Roland e Curt quiseram expandir seus horizontes e seguir um estilo próprio e quase 1 ano depois dessa apresentação lançaram o primeiro trabalho feito como Tears For Fears, "Suffer The Children".

does anybody know why graduate’s music isn’t available anywhere? i’ve looked EVERYWHERE. i looked on amazon and discogs and the price for just the audio cd is outstanding (ive seen $400 for the cd somewhere) and i’m just wondering why it’s so pricy, and why they chose not to put this music out. i adore tears for fears but i love this music too. any answer would be helpful ❤️

i think i heard in one of Roland's interview on the BBC that the album could be found on Soundcloud.

He did both, a hug and kiss on the cheek. And Roland has done it before, put a hand around Curt and kiss his cheek. They're friends, nothing wrong with a friendship kiss.

@@LittleLouieLagazza I know all that. I'm also of Spanish descent and we kiss like that to family or friends. And Roland and Curt are best friends and by old accounts, soul mates so I was trying to tell the person that there was nothing wrong with Roland hugging and kissing Curt especially if Roland has done that many times over the years.
@@heartlandqueen82 It's ok. Forgive me if I offended you. I've had the rare privilege of having a soul brother and it's true, there are sometimes men who are thicker brothers than through blood. It's eerie having a friend that's so in tune you can read often each other's minds. They've friendship has been often tested and rings true even today. It's fantastic!

Because Curt is Roland’s best friends since their early teen days. They have a very cute friendship or brotherhood (whatever you want to call it). And it’s normal that two male friends kiss on the cheek. They love each other.
