Excellent explanation, I have to install one to replace a very heavey concrete slab plus a filler at one side. This has helped me figure out how to make it work. Hope it goes as well as yours. Thanks again.
Thanks for this had same type of cover, lasted 28 years before frame went. Now replacing with cast iron! Great video enjoyable watching a craftsman at work.
Thanks for the video. The mortor around our man hole cover in the back yard crumbled away and caused a big blockage 🤢🤮 Now that's sorted I just need to replace the rusty cover and this video has shown how simple it is.
Thank you - I looked at a clarks drain cover today as the lid has rotted on mine in the garden - and was wondering how do I change this. Now I know it is reasonably straight forward, thanks to your help. I will get it ordered and done.
Great video, thanks. What is the tool called that you cut through the tarmac with before breaking it up? Could I use that tool to cut through a paving stone?
you are the best i have ever seen so far from skilfully people. the way you do it as extraordinary. Thank you for video. i wish i could help you. i feel obliged..
Thanks for the vid, I'm just about to replace mine, I made the mistake of thinking the frame slotted in to the brick work but I see that it rests on top and is held in place by the concrete you laid. I just nervous that it will slip because I park cars on mine.
Yep, but do it so you don't damage the chamber, mine was pretty much broken off any way. I would imagine you would have to dig down a bit with one of those? They're quite thick aren't they? Cheers Larcs 👍
Thanks for your kind comment. Sorry for the late reply (not getting any notifications for some reason?). Glad it helped, go for it. Save yourself a fortune ;0)
Great vid, need to do this but I've put it off for ages as my drain is out in full view of the street, worried I was going to look a nobhead not knowing what I'm doing 😂
How many parts of cement / sand /mortar for the mixture that you use to hold the manhole frame down & fill in the edges that you cut out earlier? Any particular brand of mortar/cement would you recommend?
Thanks, I set the frame down on mortar - 1 part cement, 3 parts builders sand. Filled in around it with concrete - 1 part cement, 2 parts chipping, 3 parts sand. Or 1 part cement, 5 parts ballast. Any normal cement from a builders merchants will do. Cheers Larcs 👍
I detect a Bristolian accent? Thanks for this though - very helpful. Question - why use mortar for bedding the frame and concrete for filling the gap surrounding? Sorry - not a builder, so have no clue.
Somerset boy, not far from Brizzol👍. I used mortar to bed it down because the stones in the concrete could stop it leveling down properly (they won't squish like mortar 😉).
That cover no good need a heavy duty one as its on a road good luck driving ur car over that i take your next video will be how to remove a car from chamber
That lid is not rated 10tonnes. It's 6.25kilo Newtons or 6.25tonnes. It's not even up to A15 on BSI. It's a Facta one for pavement only. Won't do you any harm but it's the cheapest money can buy and if you want it to last a lifetime you must get a cast iron one, not a plastic frame one
Thank you very much! I had the same problem and watched a few videos to figure out how to do it. Yours was the most helpful! Very grateful 🙏
Thanks, no problems. Glad it was of some help 👍

Great video, thanks. What is the tool called that you cut through the tarmac with before breaking it up? Could I use that tool to cut through a paving stone?
Thanks, it's a 9 inch grinder with a diamond cutting disc fitted & yes, it's good for cutting paving stone.
Cheers Larcs 👍
Really excellent, I’ve got to the same with an identical 10T cover. Thanks. Bob M. South Wales

Thanks, ours is still good and it gets driven over every day. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.

Great job, mine is Raised, I want to get one of those you put block paving in. Do I just smash the surround off?

Brilliant video, going to try it myself now. What's the drill bit that you used to break up the concrete? That's the only thing I missed
Thanks 😃. It's just an SDS+ drill from Screwfix with a chisel bit. Good luck with the repair 🤞.
Cheers Larcs 👍
Great video. Thanks for taking the time. Tidy job and your video has helped with my install.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad to help👍.
Good job well done mate!
Thanks very much 😁

I'm laying block paving, but have a buchan trap access 360x240. I can't find anything with a paving collar to fit. Any ideas? Thanks
No sorry, I don't know?

What does it cover? Storm water drainage?
Yes it used to be, but it has now been disconnected, it's just got a water isolation valve in it now🙂.
Cheers Larcs 👍
How long would you leave the mortar to dry before concreting? Does it have to be fully dry? thanks!
I didn't wait for it to set off completely, just a couple of hours. Seems ok still👍.
Cheers Larcs.
@@LarcsWorkshop thanks mate!

I'll be tackling mine next weekend
Good luck.

Do you need to let council know or waters supplier?
This one is on private property with private drainage, so no. Would be worth checking with your local council if you're unsure.
Cheers Larcs
That road noise is brutal. Would struggle living there
It's not too bad, I think the camera makes it sound worse. 👍
Thanks mate, very helpful video
No probs, thanks 👍.
Brilliant. Just the info I needed, thanks. Just one question - Is the ballast really required or would just a sand and cement mix work?
Cheers 👍. Could be ok for foot traffic, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're driving over it.
Good job!
Thanks 👍
Really informative 👍

Ok, but it's still fine over a year later.

It's rated at 10tonnes and it's in a domestic drive so should be ok. I'll keep an eye on it though, thanks 👍
There is always one isn't there. Know it all who clearly doesn't.
