This is the first real authoritative video with hands-down real-world info, but it does not surprise me because it takes a professional trucker to tell you what it really is ,period!
If I had a need for a diesel today, and I love my 22 Chevy HD gasser, it would be the cummins hands down bar none. I'm not a fan boy of the rams but that engine is to die for, in my opinion only!
Great video. My last 3 trucks have been rams, great trucks. This time price and available options pushed me to Ford. F-350 lariat tremor 7.3 has the off road features + payload. Just can't get a ram spec'd like that. Maybe someday!
Im a ram guy but discouraged at the lack of changes in ram over last few yrs. Wheres new cab? Wheres new tranny? Love look and best interior in trucks but cmon ram!
You got a nice truck. I like the looks of the Rams for sure. Much better than the Fords. My issue with Ram is it’s basically the same truck from the 2010 model year. Now I know they have made some changes but as far as cab size, bed size and just the general size and shape of the truck it’s the same. They have “enough” room but they are very noticeably smaller than a GM or Ford and it’s not just the back seat. The front seat area too. I always feel like I have to scoot the seat back as far as it will go in a Ram and even then I feel like I need a little more. And the roof seems lower too (or possibly the seat is just up higher) because I always feel like my head is about to touch the roof (I’m 6’3). The last thing I’ll beat on the Rams over is the coil springs of the 2500s. Now I completely missed that this truck is a 3500 in another video, but I feel like with a Ram you need to just skip the 2500 all together if you’re towing a high profile, long trailer. But with all that said I’d probably still pick the Ram over a Ford. I do think I’d want a diesel only though with Ram. Not a fan of the cylinder shutoff crap. And then the other area where Ram excels is the center console. It truly is the best of the 3. I’m not crazy about the 12” touch screen though. I don’t like having the heated seat controls being in there. I didn’t notice them being on the dash so I’m assuming that’s the only way to turn them on is through the touchscreen. Long post but that’s my opinions on the Rams. They definitely are good looking trucks.
I appreciate when you post, I love the perspective, and I agree wholeheartedly. This truck may set me up for a 25 chevy gas in a little more uptrim. Loving all the swag in this one, but kong is still the best truck I've had in over a decade.
@@automotiveinquiries9673 I like watching your reviews. Hated to see the Chevy go but I’m looking forward to seeing how you feel it stacks up with this particular diesel. This probably is the most common diesel pickup on the road.
Great exhaustive video. Appreciate your thoroughness. I pull 9K lbs on the bumper with a 15' Hemi, 6.4. Looking to get a 14K gross inTech 40' GN. Will be towing 3-4 times a week. I want a diesel, not for the weight, but for Ram's exhaust brake and the overall stability of the long trailer. Thinking 3500 dually. I want the safest rig for employees to drive if I'm not with them. I'm I missing anything in my thought process?
You are spot on with the diesel and the dually. That exhaust brake will save your normal brakes ten fold over the competition. With the dually you gain extra sway control and stability in wind when towing. And the ram, when driven at 75 or less in my experience has the best MPG's.
My son keeps saying we will only be loading this trailer to about 10K and a dually will be over kill. I keep saying it's not about the weight but the size and wind resistant and how this square box will handle behind a short bed truck. I think a dually will be safer. I'm I making a false case because I may want a dually?
@elderrob with the dually, you leave yourself room to always be able to do more if needed. And a dually hands down is more stable than any truck. If I was towing 3 times or more a week, I'd have a dually myself, just because you'll never be wondering if you needed more and when I towed my larger 5th wheel with my single wheel (2015) short bed it was fine...upgraded to a dually (2016) and it was a game changer in every situation. Trailer rode better on that truck, control etc. But it does come down to what you need and want for sure.
Although a very nice truck, Ford and GM are offering more in their HD trucks for the money. I own a 16 Ram 2500 Laramie with the Cummins. There isn't enough here to warrant an upgrade for me! RAM is absolutely out of their minds, thinking these trucks are worth 90k! Keep in mind that the stock fender flares that came with the Laramie trim, are no longer included! Glad you got 18k off, but it's still not enough IMO.
i just traded my 20 sport for 23 laramie sport 2500 , 68rfe transmission as well if i got that right lol big difference 17k off couldnt say no to brand new. mines part of the safety group. little more safety with this truck which i like.
I do love Johnsons but autonation ram is the dealer that is discounting these things like crazy. They have 5 dealers in Colorado and discounts at all of them.
@@automotiveinquiries9673 Interesting. I just bought a '24 2500 HD Duramax Silverado LTZ from Foundation a couple months ago. No discounts there, but they were selling for msrp and no additional markup. I would have looked at Dodge had I known about the discounts.
@boblaws9851 yeah foundation is where I'd look at the chevys also. AutoNation chevy and ram seem to discount....AutoNation Ford sometimes. But most around here for chevy are msrp.
@@automotiveinquiries9673 I couldn't find anyone discounting the 2024 GM's in early August. However, I did get $51k trade in on my '18 GMC 3500 Duramax SLT that I paid $53k for 3 years ago... Can't beat the ride of the GM HD's.
I've had Rams (10) over the past 20 years, many HD's with a Cummins. The Ram I want I no longer can afford. I ended up ordering a 2024 High Country Duramax OTD for 83k, every option. I still like the Ram, but with their major price increases, I have to see more than what they offer....larger cab, larger bed. I saw Laramie's that were in the mids 90s and had no bed step, no bed liner, no running boards, etc. Way over priced for 2023 and 2024.
In all honesty though, I do still like the Ram better. I'll probably go back to one next year. The Chevy has a lot for the money, but my preference is Ram.@@automotiveinquiries9673
Fords HD will be scarce given that the UAW walked out of the plant 10-11-23 if that lasts it will be near impossible to get a ford HD soon…..let alone order one.😂when they restart it will be all platinums to get the money back…
Just traded my 2022 Ram …Cummins ..all the bells and whistles…traded for a 2024 2500 AT4 6.6 gas. Couldn’t be more happy with trade. The Cummins choked up with all the emissions…..it gets worse and worse with regens as you go. I monitored my regens religiously. It got tiring. I’m so over with diesel engines.
Right on, I appreciate the feedback on this and you being here, and the posts of your experiences. Congrats on the 24 at4....that is a wicked looking rig, and the l8t is my favorite gasser also.
Nice critique, but no....this has been my style for 15 years......everyone so quick to tell others to change themselves...nah....I'll be me, true to myself and you do you...at least I'm being true to myself.....
Thanks for the "long winded" review💪🏽👍🏽

Great video I just got a 23 Ram 3500 with the Cummins I really like the truck
Fantastic review, we need these in the uk

25:01 my daughter lives in Philadelphia and I have some family in Trenton. When I go see them I load the coin holder up for the toll gate.
i love my rams but i think the 24 chevies are pretty nice and have some very enticing options.
My 2018 is pretty much exactly same same. I get 15-16 MPG around town empty. It's paid for so maybe I go look at a 2024? Nice review.
Keep your 18 trust me

The 3500 should have the HO not a standard. Also the standard Cummins come with the inept 68RFE transmission not the aisin

Do you happen to work for Michelin or Goodyear?

Can you say where you purchased it?
