    I think the tapping part is so memorable because, to me at least, it's supposed to sound like roiling waves on a sea 🌊

    What separates Romeo from all the other shredders out there is his ability to write absolutely killer riffs that make the songs actually enjoyable to the average listener. He's also great at composing orchestral parts.
    Combine that with one of the best vocalist out there and you get the absolute magic of the 90's era of Symphony X, just timeless

    His chops and musicality are without question…it’s the effortless way he plays
    He’s so relaxed as he plays but never in a “look I KNOW I’m good” nonchalance

      From my own hard fought experience lol playing relaxed is a MUST for playing any complex and fast with articulation. The relaxing my arms, shoulders, everything bit, was literally one of the hardest aspects of "shredding" when I finally got an instructor to show me how to properly. (Just my own personal experience) If I tense up incorrectly almost one bit, it can interrupt the flow and muscle memory, and absolutely ruin my playing articulation. Romeo's relaxation is some next level stuff tho.

    You're doing a lot on Michael Romeo, why don't you do something on Shawn Lane?
    Actually why don't you check out the peace between Shawn Lane and Buckethead that was supposed to be unplayable.
    Sergey golovin is also another guitarist worth looking into. I honestly don't think that there's a more diverse, original or fluid live guitar player.
    Every album is a different style, completely original and ridiculously technical but he plays with absolute ease and perfection live on his instagram.

    I dunno, man. Yngwie clones leave me cold. None of them are as interesting. Shredding is boring without interesting phrasing, which is why Per is so good.
    Speaking of someone who can shred insanely and has unreal improv/phrasing ability -- despite looking like Howard Stern after taking puberty blockers -- how about Max Ostro?

    • @tomanderson6140
      @tomanderson6140 Год назад +3

      @@LeviClay Of course he plays different licks, like the tapping sequences, but...let's see -- neoclassical style, A Phrygian Dominant scale, bars 18-19 are the single most canonical Yngwie lick possible -- so in fairness "nothing like" is a bit of a stretch. ;)

    Downloaded in kazaa back then when starting guitar and the tutorials where not on demand...was searching something, download any "lesson" and pray that you didnt get a scrotum ib your safe.
    And I got to download this masterpiece.
    I was like months into guitar struggling with palm mute.
    I fucking hated this video. Had to ignore it to not just "why even" and just let all the steings get rust in the darkness.
    And then I saw George Bellas lesson for the sweep in airborne.
    I bought new strings. Like kinda ropey and able to sustain human weight and a chair. I was foing to make a bend like no other you fucks.
    But do not despair my child. Metronome and lowing it dpwn until ot sounds like a conversation between two R2D2 and upping 3 points and 2 and 3 and 2 does the trick. But dont leave anything on the stobe or you will find charcoal when you leave the studia after the first seasons.

    So many of these “technically difficult to play” pieces are are also difficult to sit through. They’re usually cold and sterile noise with zero soul or feeling. A display of ability and nothing more. To me this falls under that category.

    • @Kwert
      @Kwert Год назад

      How exactly do you quantify "feeling" in this playing? What are you hoping to hear?

    • @hippobikeamus5385
      @hippobikeamus5385 Год назад

      Usually, 'feeling' on guitar is measured in stuff like string bends, vibrato, being able to construct impactful chord progressions and play over them - you can't tell me Michael Romeo is deficient in that area. Also, I think if you were more au fait with his discography you'd find stuff which is totally contrary to your comment. Ie Communion and the Oracle, Paradise Lost etc. Would it help if he pulled a 'guitar face' or made a few mistakes? For me, he doesn't fall into the category of the Chris Impelliterri type guitarist with speed over substance. Romeo writes 'songs' - a lot of them just happen to be at a brisk tempo. Recommended listening 'V-The New Mythology Suite' by Symphony X.
