i love symphony x! i heard "Church of the Machine" on some free sample CD thing, and i just had to find the original, and it was that same live album. russell allen is my favorite singer for this style!
On the off chance you're not aware of it, Russel Allen did some nice work on the latest Ayreon CD that came out last year. Some pretty good singers on that one :).
Well, you will not believe me, but last night just before sleep I thought: "It would be great if Leon crafts a tapping lesson" and here it is...incredible!
Really enjoyed this. Appreciate you taking the time to show a lesson. Simone from DGM talks a lot about Michael Romeo, and he is a monster of a guitar player too if you've never checked them out. Listen to the Secret pt. 1 & 2 for some crazy great playing
That was brilliant, Leon. I can't believe I'd never heard of these guys until this week and now I hear about them twice. Both you and Ola Englund have been spruiking their material in the last few days. I'll have to check them out.
I think you are adding an extra note because Romeo isn't playing the pinky on the way back UP from the lower section. I THOUGHT he was because it makes sense from a # of notes perspective but apparently, he's playing one less note in the same timeframe which is absolutely weird, imo. You would THINK it's 12 notes per section, but he's playing 11. play this vid ruclips.net/video/PG2804ggsI0/видео.html at .25 speed to see he doesn't play the pinky going back UP on the G string. He only uses the index and ring fingers going up. going down on the G he does use all 3 notes on his left hand. Just my observation. thx for the tutorial but I think that one tiny thing is wrong so watch and if you think I'M wrong, correct me! :)
@Leon Todd thx on the vids your version sounds great and that's what I assumed Romeo was doing. and yes, when I watched him play this tapped sequence at normal speed, I just KNEW it was 12 notes. why not? either 12, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1. Those are all the normal divisions but when I slowed it to .25, i was like.... something's wrong. it's not adding up. I had trouble counting along. then I saw he was leaving out one of those "12" notes and it's the.... 9th note in your sequence. He simply isn't playing it in that vid I linked. ? It's insane he could leave out that one note each sequence, keep the 11 notes in TIME and NOT play that note on the way up at the tempo he's playing. He's a monster. Let me know if you think I'm right or wrong. I've been wrong before. :) Doesn't really destroy your tutorial at all, just was pointing out something that I noticed in the orig tutorial vid by MR.
Love this bit! I have it around 70% up to speed, but I get a ton of lift-off noise when coming off the 3rd string. Any solution for that, or are you muting with your right wrist somehow?
I though: Ok, maybe it's time to learn how tapping properly, with a song I like. Starts watching the explanation: String skipping? while tapping? Maybe next time haha
Can you tap/play Bach's (CPE the son, not JS the father) Solfeggietto? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Carl_Philipp_Emanuel_Bach_-_Solfeggietto.ogg You mentioned TDWoT .. Did you know the beginning to the title track is actually from Bach's (JS) Mass in B Minor? ruclips.net/video/LGT6MKrDJy4/видео.html And today's kids boasting about who ripped off whom .. Tell ya what kiddies .. EVERYONE ripped off Bach (and sons) .. Including Mozart and Beethoven .. Look it up .. I think it was Mozart who quipped "Bach was the father, and we his children." I think Jeff Loomis in composing "Devil Theory" used a bit of CPE Bach and his Solfeggietto ..
Michael Romeo is a beast. Amazing player, but also and most importantly, an amazing composer. I love every work from him.
Great video and thanks for the tutorial. I also love Jason Becker. You have great taste 👌
So glad you're showing this! Romeo is a master and someone that doesnt get a lot of attention that I think he deserves.
You have a awesome father with great taste in music.I enjoy all your videos.
One of the best tapping licks ever
Agreed
Just discover Romeo via his latest solo project. Love his work!
How awesome is he?!
i love symphony x! i heard "Church of the Machine" on some free sample CD thing, and i just had to find the original, and it was that same live album. russell allen is my favorite singer for this style!
Yeah Russell is just incredible! Church is a sick song too
Romeo is an awesome guitar player, thank you for the lesson bro.
Yes! Symphony X is my favorite modern band. I saw them live on their most recent tour. I was about 15 feet from Mr. Romeo. It was a great show.
15 feet from a demigod of guitar!

@@madddog6790 I was unaware of this. I will check that out!
Simply awesome vid. Please keep making these instructional vids.. Thanks heaps Leon.
You make that look so easy. This has been on my list of challenges.
Well, you will not believe me, but last night just before sleep I thought: "It would be great if Leon crafts a tapping lesson" and here it is...incredible!
Freaking great, thank you so much! I've been mystified by this since I first saw the Guitar Chapter DVD.
Really enjoyed this. Appreciate you taking the time to show a lesson. Simone from DGM talks a lot about Michael Romeo, and he is a monster of a guitar player too if you've never checked them out. Listen to the Secret pt. 1 & 2 for some crazy great playing
Both players are absolutely next level!
Really cool! Almost sounds like an Akira Takasaki kind of thing.
Great quick lesson on this. Thanks!
Nice finger work man , sounds killer !! Will learn this from you , thanks.
As soon as I have some time on my hands I will sign up on musicon and learn some advance stuff from you.
Reaching 9 11 12 without pinky is a real challenge thanks for the vid

Make sure you've got fresh underwear ready
@@LeonTodd I can just turn 'em inside out, right?
This is way way way harder than i thought it was going to be.
question I have about the intro riff for sea of lies. is the riff all alternate picking, or economy picking?
Thanks for the tutorial!
Happy to help!

Try position your wrist as a mute - having a guitar with a low action helps loads too!
👍🏽🎸🤘🏽
How do you transition to picking and tapping back to picking so fast. Where does the pick go
What scale used in this lick?
I tried to do the lick. 5 mins my index tip bled. I quit : )
Hi Leon, Insane Tapping, do you find it easier to Tap with Larger/Taller frets? 👍👍👍
Take care mate.
Definitely easier
the old symphony x stuff from the odyssey and prior is just the best. no other guitarist is as under rated as mike
The dude makes it all look easy
Im beginning to sense a pattern here... I guess you also love Racer X and Static X
Hahaha and X-Japan
2:10 Someone forgot flute practice
