I actually saw the sixteen with Harry Christophers when they came to Melbourne back in about 2012. It was my sons 16th birthday on the 16th so I took him to see the sixteen, and we even met Harry during the intermission. A very humble, friendly and decent fellow. Greetings and best wishes from Melbourne, Australia.
I love all four Coronation anthems. Zadok the Priest is always magnificent, but I have a special place in my heart for The King Shall Rejoice, which I sang in the choir in December, 1984, when I was at music college.

This hymn was composed to celebrate the coronation of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, George II and Queen Caroline at Westminster Abbey. The music is naturally triumphant and conveys a great joy for the situation. The hymn could only be composed by an extraordinary musician, whose talent, especially for this type of melody, was unique. The orchestra, the direction and the choir are outstanding. Viva Handel and his unmistakable and superb music.
We try to sing Handel Coronation Anthems in my choral near Paris. It's not so easy you need so much energy. Funny to ear all those French people (including myself) sing "God save the King" though !
@@mckavitt13 Well, to be honest, it's music to me. I'm not a classical music buff by any means, but I do like it from time to time and this particular piece I especially like. Simple as that. Oratorio, Song, Music, etc., it still sounds pretty awesome to my brain! Thanks for the education however. Peace my friend.
Joe Van Seeters The problem about the word ‘song’ is simply that you’ve used an American English usage of the word that is limited almost entirely to North America and is not universal except unfortunately on apps like RUclips. In the rest of the English speaking world, a song means something sung by a voice, with words - this is the definition you will find in the Oxford English Dictionary, or any from Australia or New Zealand et cetera. And to be strictly fair and accurate, the Merriam-Webster American English definition is the same as the Oxford definition, so it’s difficult to understand where this aberration has come from. The English word ‘song’ is a direct and exact translation of the Italian ‘canzone’, French ‘chanson’ and German ‘lied’; unfortunately, the American English usage - perpetuated by RUclips - is something of a mutant and not recognised anywhere else. Hope that helps.
@@elaineblackhurst1509 All you say. Examples of this usage: Spotify, Apple Music, Google Music. Even a symphony is called a "song". Slipshod (google doesn't recognise this word!) & misleading. Further dumbing down of entire populations of people worldwide using the internet. Hence the confusion.
Absolutely magnificent! What can one say--the irrepressible joy of his music is every bit as uplifting as anything can be, even while there is such an incredible depth of sorrow in some of his pieces that bring such comfort to the soul, as well. Love this composer! And this particular performance by the Sixteen is so energetically performed under the inspiring conductor, Harry Christophers. Thank you!
It's like us humans are pleaing with god, to answer us back, to talk to us. Through the most beautiful sounds possible. This music is like a prayer, a serenade, to god. If a god exists.
Great performance with color and expression. Without a doubt one of the best I ever heard. Astonishing skill in controlling the voices and instruments. Harry Christophers surpasses in soulful feeling and passion for what he is doing, an extraordinary talent.

Great music, great performance! I can't improve on the praise both have received from other commentators. Just one niggling complaint though - I wish the video had not ended so abruptly, but had included some of the applause, or at least a few seconds of silence before ending. But anyway, thanks very much for uploading it!

The composer of the Champions League Anthem needs to pay Handel royalties!
Sublime compositor el alemán Friedrich Händel. Y extraordinaria las interpretaciones inglesas.
There are few songs that actually send shivers down your spine when you listen to it, but this masterpiece by Handel is definitely one of them.
Joe Van Seeters It is an oratorio, not a song. RUclips & Spotify are responsible for these misunderstandings.

it seems to me the British have a great and venerable tradition when it comes to singing, choirs, vocal ensembles etc. bravo! 👍 cheers from Germany
Well yes, and at this level it was brought to us by a German named Handel :) Cheers from the UK

This is surely the pinnacle of performance standard for this repertoire.
My absolute favorite. This music is so exceptionally beautiful it's hard to describe how one really feels when listening.

What an awesome performance
Handel's anthems are so very beautiful, my favorite is the first one used for coronations.
Outstanding!!! Oh, to be there in the audience - that would be the only way this could have been better.
What a terrific performance !. Absolutely marvellous Playing, and Singing . superb recording.

Música magnífica, interpretada de manera sobresaliente
Hope we hear something approaching this quality in Westminster Abbey this June.
Most likely it will be replaced with some Islamic chant or Jewish dance knowing the Woke Anti Christ Charlie boy.
I'd say that we did
Bravo!!
are they The Thirty-Two when they do this?
I fancy the unsung bassoonist who never attracts the camera, but bewitches with her russet hair
he borrowed some of this for the messiah, i can hear it.
No sir! You are the patient!
Such highly expressive music although in some parts would have preferred the pace to be slightly slower.
Germans were the best classic composers of all....+ Vivaldi of course ;)
