polyphony at its best, but the timbre of the singers is so angelic that it sets this rendition above all others!
I have loved Handel’s music since I was a little boy, I am now 81 and still hearing performances that bring tears to my eyes. These Coronation Anthems are just marvellous! Thank you.
Absolutely outstanding. “Handel, the master of us all”. - W.A. Mozart.
My family was too poor and living in a war torn country but still I developed love for this classic pieces.
Well that's a zinger. The first harmony between the bass and the countertenor was so beautiful it literally brought me to tears. Superb.
I keep coming back to this performance. Everything about it is sublime. I can’t get enough of ‘King’s Daughters’ myself
As a counter tenor with the Handel Opera Chorus in London years ago, I can only marvel at these performances of the coronation anthems. They are perfection.
What does being a countertenor have to do with the rest of your comment? Are you trying to show off? Being a countertenor is not a personality trait
@@thesaucegroup1877 ohhhh🤣🤣🤣
@@thesaucegroup1877 Stop y’r cavils! The man knows music. Let him alone for goodness sake, and enjoy the music!
Reggie Mobley -- what a wonderful., luscious countertenor voice!!
He is breathtaking in his colour and phrasing. I have yet to be disappointed. A true gift.
As a former parish church and then cathedral chorister I pride myself on knowing when I encounter beautiful renditions. I found one here. Truly, truly supurb.
We're lucky.
Uncommonly good.
I love the smiles on the singers as they break into the Amen from Messiah
I am so pleased that an american choir and band can produce such an idiomatic and beautiful production of this great Anthem. Many thanks from a Scottish fan.Maybe you could come to the Edinburgh Festival.
The most magnificent choir anywhere. Bright and clear; balanced and inspired. A real joy to see and hear.
O my Goodness! May God be Praised!
For me, the high point of this piece comes from 7:20 - 7:27: the harmonies Handel gives to the word "pleasure." Enchanting. He can be subtle when he is not hallelujah-ing.
Sung with such and control! Absolutely beautiful! The male soloists are just incredible!
Indeed, Adrian. Indeed! I am a fan of theirs though I have another choir that's my ultimate favourite. :)
@@craigbloomfield527 And which one is that?
So beautiful!💐I'm thankful to our American friends that they can produce such wonderful Baroque-music!🤺🇦🇺🇺🇸🇬🇧🌹
Händel is such FUN to perform! And what a stunning, excellent performance here! The ultimate compliment I can pay to these groups here (orchestra and choir) is that they can easily be matched against the best of the European ensembles now around! Few other American or Canadian ensembles are THIS good! :-)
This is a positively delightful performance of this Handel work. It shimmers with the rhythmic vitality characteristic of Handel. The use of original instrumentation is a delightful addition, as is the vocal instrumentation, which utilizes countertenors on the alto line. Bravo to the conductor, the singers, and the orchestra for performing this Coronation Anthem in a manner befitting any king.
A beautiful and spirited performance. It is a pleasure to hear such beautiful voices accompanied by such great musicians. What a great performance!!!
A en pleurer!I weep.La plus belle version sur RUclips, à mon avis, de cette oeuvre.
My sincere thanks to our brothers and sisters 'across the pond' for these truly superb renditions.
I love how the countertenors go into chest voice on middle C at 2:10! (or c# at baroque pitch) It's effective in that passage. As a CT myself I sometimes have to make a tough choice about where to place middle C.
Thank you Philip for this report from the musical trenches!
This is as perfect as it can get.
01:23, the guy's voice is gold.
Lovely and not heard often enough, thank you.
I must say that having heard "The Messiah" hundreds of times in recorded form in my 49 years, NOTHING compares to attending a LIVE performance. December of last year (2016) I was treated to one of the most thrilling performances of my lifetime...Trinity Wall Street's 'Messiah'. I get the goosebumps and raised hairs just listening to this! Thanks for the upload!
Indeed, a live performance is the best exposure, warming our hearts for exaltation?.....jn
Wonderful singing and playing under the excellent Mr Quigley .
Vivian Crawford- Jamaica: What energy! To God be the glory.Thank you.
Patrick brings out the regal loveliness of this inspiring anthem! Quigley, Handel and Seraphic Fire--a fabulous joining!
As, just a friend of Thomas Cooley's; I thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful rendition.
Amazing. Special thanks to the great Reginald, I love his voice.
He was singing at the Coronation of Charles 111 yesterday in The Monteverdi Choir !
Superb performance. And they're clearly enjoying themselves. What a treat - and so apropos that it was performed at Trinity Wall Street. King George II commissioned the coronation anthems from Handel, and George II also donated the property upon which Trinity Wall Street sits to the congregation from Crown Estate land in southern Manhattan. Hanoverian synergy.
Thanks for the historical background .
@@garywait3231 Quite!
The land grant was from Queen Anne around 1700, the parish having been founded in 1697. I think the endowment is about $ 8 billion now, which supports a truly excellent music program!
From France, c'est excellent... world class like The Sixteen!! cette Amérique là me rassure !!!!!
Gorgeous. Not often heard these days, a great shame as it is certainly worthy of concert performance.
Ye Gods.. Y'all are SANGING and making a truly joyful noise in one of my fave anthems and giving Handel the glory...come THROUGH!!!
lol noise? one of the first and possibly the only thing I remember from my childhood grammar school classes in music was the difference between noise and sound. namely, the presence of something we call pitch in the latter. now, these days we have so many “geniuses” who’ve never composed a measure of music in their lives providing “critique” of the masterpieces of others. you’re right… glory etc.
@@jordans962 Handel has been a favourite of mine since I could form a response to music as a kid and all through my conducting and vocal studies at uni...I remain humbled by his greatness. I am certainly no genius, but his never fails to excite; hence psalm 100 alluded to in my response 😃
This Seraphic Fire group is pretty damned good! Their productions of works by Handel seem especially well crafted. That this is an American group able to stand with the more famous British groups who proudly and justifiably produce above average Baroque recordings makes this all the more noteworthy. Serious music collectors would do well indeed to seek out and add works by this group.
Bravissimo! For me, the best version on RUclips!
What a gorgeous performance. Everyone is on point!
This performance surpasses all others I have heard. Just wonderful. The singers, the players, the RECORDING are beyond compare.
I agree! Why is the world not aware of this choir? One of the best for this period! He really has a full appreciation and mastery of Handel - perfect tempi, phrasing, clarity and texture. Mind you, the counter-tenor is soloist has also sung under John Eliot Gardiner so that tells you the level to expect.
I heartily agree . In a word: MAGNIFICENT!!!!
@@craigbloomfield527 I heard him singing Bach in Prague with the Monteverdi Choir!
A really fine performance which I enjoyed very much.
Well done for the immaculate enunciation of the words - as important in native English as it is in Italian or German, or any other language; one always dreads hearing that the chorus’s ‘hard is indiding’, but this was just perfect.
Thanks to all involved.
+This performance is a Holiday Treat. Thanks for posting!!!
God bless you guys..powerful
Heaven on earth! Absolutely stunning performance.
Ohh my Goodness! This is beautiful music.
Gorgeous and seamless transition into "Amen." This performance stirred my soul.
My word!! Who are the two male soloists at the start- the counter tenor and the bass? Such round and fullness of voice. Excellent job guys- I’ve watched and listened to this recording so many times now.
More please.
The second singer is counter tenor Reginald Mobley. He has indeed a very beautiful voice!
OMG this is a one stunning performance!
My Goodness, Beautiful!
So stupendous in every way. I'm moved to tears. THANK YOU !
Wonderfully done. Especially the transition into the Amen.
Everything Seraphic perform is wonderful. A great spirit lifter always
Ringing Alto!!! Kudos
Superlative. Extraordinary. Magnificent performance of a masterpiece for all ages!
beautiful performance with measured restraint, but joyful expression, indeed!
Absolutely top rated performance of subline music, what could be better than that!
Merci, c'est excellent ! World class !
First Handel anthem I ever heard way back in the infancy of my early music journey, and this is the best of all the recordings of heard since then. Including The Sixteen's. Now to see if you've done the Purcell setting of the same text!
Only Handel....so amazingly beautiful....
O man, this really took me ...
This song makes me feel in heaven
This is impeccably done. Did anybody else hear, though, that it sounds like somebody laughed into a trombone at 14:58?
Wonderful performance. Something special there. Unusually for choral singing, the US accents come out clearly
This is beautiful 🥰 I'm in love with the Amen Chorus.
Wonderful, i love it.
Beautiful.
Grandiose, superbe, magnifique, somptueux! Et l'Amen du "Messie" est la plus belle partie de la plus belle des oeuvres !
Quand aurons-nous une oeuvre complète par votre admirable ensemble ?
-- Grand, superb, beautiful, sumptuous! And the Amen of "The Messiah" is the most beautiful part of the most beautiful work!
When will we have a complete work by your admirable ensemble?
This is marvellous, the piece rocks straight into my inner most brain. Thanks a lot.
ESPLENDIDO!!!!!

Heavenly!
Beautiful preformance
Esecuzione eccezionale!
Stunning, and I additionally enjoyed the constant knees-bend by the soloist on the far left (as seen).
Brillantissime!
Go Reggie!
Beautiful. Thanks.
Hallelujah!!!
Utterly sublime❤️
With point and verve! Thank you!
This is perfection👌👌👌👌👌
Terrific conducting by the way!
Me ha gustado. 14:56 ¿Es una nota de la partitura? ¿El ruido de matasuegras?
I enjoyed it. 14:56 Is it in the músic paper? That trumpet noise?
Superbe , remarquable en tous points !
Gorgeous!!
c'est magnifique!!
Lylics :
4. My heart is inditing of a good matter;
I speak of the things which I have made unto the king
King's daughters were among thy honorable women
Upon thy right hand did stand the Queen in vesture of gold,
and the king shall have pleasure in thy beauty
Kings shall be thy nursing fathers,
and Queens thy nursing mothers
(Psalms 45: 1,9,11 and Isaiah 49: 23)
Amen~~~!
Concluding with added 'Amen from 'Messiah' is creating a perfect and mysterious harmony!
What ! empty seats in that sanctuary !!! For that brilliant performance,,,,,,,,, shame.
very good and beautiful❤👏👏👏
I don't know what persuaded the conductor to have soloists which Handel did not write in.Nevertheless the result is effective and the two male soloists are wonderful. Please come to the UK-I have said this before! Otherwise I will be forced to come to Miami
Replying to myself , Handel did indeed write for soloists at the start but most performances in the UK use the full choir from the beginning.
You are right about the soloists. Handel actually often interchanged chorus and soloists for the same passages -- Messiah, for example.
As previously commented I think that SF's use of soloists, and its smaller ensemble give the piece a less uniform quality than the Sixteen....... but an interesting comparison of interpretations of Handel's genius.
@@shadbolt4480 I think Handel used quite a big choir in the Abbey because of it's size and because they were placed high up above the congregation.I understand that the performance did not go well for various reasons! I think smaller choirs with soloists can be effective in a different way and SF do an excellent job.
Very good performance. ❤
Beautiful
I love the addition of the 'Amen Chorus' at the end. I would be interested to know whether the Coronation anthems have been published with the Amen chorus at the end.Perhaps there is a special edition?
I expect you would have buy the Amen separately. It is a great chorus but I am not sure it should be used with this Anthem?
très belle prestation à vous!
The speed of the first song...
Omo, their speed shaaaa!
Exisida interpretació, elegant i subtil
Psalm 45
1. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
10. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;
12. And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
Isaiah 49
23. And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.
To God Alone Be All The Glory. Hallelujah. Oh Come LORD Jesus. AMEN.
That soprano's voice is so loud and harsh it almost blew my iPad speaker 😯
😭😭😭
It is actually good to watch but why was the AMEN from the last chorus in the oratorio added?
Heavenly harmonic, the cream of interpretation.
I wonder, if the musicians at Handels time could interpret so artful and
sensitive. Otherwise Handel wrote his music for now
Can anyone help with the title of the second rendition?
"Kings Daughters"
WOW
