It's definetly an easter egg referring to monkey island and way ahead of the actual monkey island adventure release (like half a year).

If you can afford the games, you should! They're pretty inexpensive on Steam (especially when there's a sale, got my copies off a Summer Sale) and GOG.
Oh, word of advice for anyone planning to get the games on Steam... The Monkey Island Collection bundle actually omits a game, Tales of Monkey Island, presumably because it was from a different studio (telltale). I believe every other game should be there, including the newest Return to Monkey Island.

Considering that this song is from a game that came out 30 years before Sea of Thieves, I'd say that Sea of Thieves captured the Monkey Island feel.

I loved the original franchise to death so I'm sure you could imagine my unbridled joy upon hearing this theme being played in my favorite game of all time, I've been wanting a cross-over since tall tales were introduced and I'm extremely excited to see where the next two tall tales bring us.

It almost brings a tear to my eye. Return was decent enough, but so far this has been an even better tribute for me.
Also, I like how this mix is basically a sped up version of the one from A Pirate's Life. But, I'm still happy about that.
I think return was amazing, even the ending, which I have my own theories and stuff about but this is definitely a great second revival of the game series

The way i got this game was a hand on shoulder type moment, my friend recomended it for a while i watched some gameplay and thaught it'd be goofy then he baught it for me and now i cant imagin living without this game.Listening to this song gives me flashbacks
