I have a 2016 FJR. Since there is not enough wall thickness to get more than one or two threads when tapping the cap, I drilled and countersunk the bottom of the fork cap. I got a RAM ball (RAM-B-348U - Amazon) with a female threaded post, and ran a tapered-head screw through the bottom of the cap. I use it for my Garmin GPS. There's no obstruction of the instruments, and honestly taking my eyes off the road is not an issue. I just don't look at it when I'm cornering, etc. By the way, there is very little clearance beneath the cap, which is why I countersunk it from underneath. It is rock solid. Total cost was $12.

I've got the SW Motech mount in front of the tank (fitted with the tank bolts), and their universal mount. On that is the Ultimate Addons phone cover.

I have a stainless steel mount that has been manufactured by one of the metalworkers in our national FJR club, which means I have my 7 inch Carplay/AAuto unit above the FJR dash, just behind the windscreen. I also have the tank bolts-mounted WayPoint mount (by a Dutch company), but like you I feel that it's too low to view comfortably (or safely). If anyone is interested, I can get photos (or get the mount shipped to you, if need be).
Oh, and I have the 'ears' that our military police rode with when they had the FJRs -- and I love them.

Hi, glad you're back. I have the triple clamp ball stud mount with a Garmin and it looks like OEM. I also have my phone on the left button/hole that you mentioned and the RAM adjustment works great. Both are wired back to the 12v in the faring pocket. Good luck

I’m waiting for your long rides! I really enjoyed watching the Blue Ridge Parkway ride. Seems like that was just a few years ago!

I have a RAM mount on the defunct clutch side mirror bolt hole _(Clutch Side)_ and also a RAM mount which mounts to the petrol tank retaining bolts _(Central Mount)._ I find that the Clutch Side is better for smaller displays, GPS on a mobile for example, and the Central Mount is better for larger displays. I imagine you'll have made your choice by now, though.

I mounted my chigee on the right hand side, just use the existing bracket slightly modded to clamp to the existing bolt for the brake handle etc. Also, I replaced the blue lever on the phone mount with a black one from AliExpress.

Have you thought about installing a ram ball mount beside the left brake reservoir in the available m10 threaded hole?

@@TwoWheelObsessionSorry yes you did. With that being said I hear what you are saying about possibly blocking your mirror. For me I have been using that for my phone without any problems with the mirror. Once you mount it you will see it won't block your mirror if you tilt the double socket towards you some. It actually is a perfect spot for the phone without obstruction of the instruments or the mirror. Just a thought. I am using the shorter double socket. You might be surprised once you connect it up and adjust it. If it was used for something larger than a phone it could be a problem.

So glad to see you back. I have a question i tried to start my bike after it had been off the battery maintainer and it was to weak to start the bike and the check engine light on. I went to my dealer and they wanted to charge me 100 dollar because they have to check the charging system. I have been riding with check engine light. Is there away to reset myself?

Hi bryan , i got the 1/2 inch ball mount that screws into the top of the triple clamp for my tom tom . It sits up a bit but leaves the dash fully visible . My line of sight isnt that much different from looking at the dash but i laughed when u said you didnt want to pay more than $50 . Everything here in australia is at least double what you guys pay in the US

I have a cantilever plate that utilizes the two screws between the fuel tank and the handle bars. It must have been an option on my FJR1300. I've never seen another FJR1300 with it. It's not aftermarket option, because it actually has the Yamaha badge engraved in it.
The dilemma you have right now is one of the few disappointments I have with the FJR1300. Mounting things isn't easy. I wish I had an easy solution few an ice water bottle.

I never heard of such a factory part - many aftermarket parts have such markings, that doesn't mean anything as it being Yamaha.

I have an "over the gauges" mount that works great. It's very stout and uses the windscreen mounts. Let me know if you want to check it out and I'll come by.
