    Lovely video and great set of doors there. You could use a mortise lock, then you would have keyhole access from either side and it would be very secure.

    Looking Gorgeous!
    Heidi from The Narrowboat Pirate just had an internal deadbolt installed on her stern doors a few episodes back. You can check with her about locks!
    You need to use a piece of scrap wood on top of the door sill when hammering it in place, then you won't dent the still itself!

    A few boaters on youtube have just bought those locks I think in the last month. Narrow boat Grandad showed that you can lock from both sides if you insert the key in the right way (turn 90 or 180 or 270 from the way you have done). Maybe its not the same lock but might be worth checking. Paint looks great

    I remember those first videos on the metal doors and was thinking I don't think anyone would break in your narrowboat, but you stated they'd (metal doors) let everything you wanted to keep out in but at least the doorway would be covered to keep away the riffraff... now the doors keep everything from outside outside, but the riffraff probabaly passin your boat (wishing to come in) asking about service hours - passing your boat with 3 holy mary's" and "church," because the crib looks "blessed and highly favored" with all that stained glass and oak finish... Preacher can't even pass without preaching (... o lawd ...) and laying a blessing upon ur boat and the king wants a reluanch with the wine and full celibration ...

    Story time... During the 90's (my raving days) we met a couple of (posh) lads from Marlborough college. We would meet them at the Red Lion in Avebury to sell them a little hash from time to time. Over time as they got to know us they shared that they were part of the crop circle crew from the college that we making the circles which were very prominent in Wiltshire during that time. They agreed to let us go along one night just to watch. There was about 8 of them and they were very well organised. It was pretty fun wathcing them do it. The garage locks are designed to be locked from the outside only … so fitted on the inside and a hole through the door to use the key on the outside.
    To lock the door when you are inside, just add the manual bolts you have now. It is not a good idea to lock the doors with a key when on the boat because that is your fire escape so you don’t want to mess about with keys.

    When you've cleaned the engine cover board I take it is buffalo board, spray it with wd 40 it comes up a treat, it doesn't make it slippery because buffalo board is slightly porous give it a go. Can't help with the locks sorry .

      Yeah it was pretty hard sealing the boat as it legally has to have certain vents, had a lovely cool breeze though!

    Just an observation guys you have glazing beads on the outside of your doors which are easy access for un-invited guests. If possible could you swap your door around so beadings on the inside .?

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  9 месяцев назад

      The last window I fitted I was told the beads had to go on the outside so that water wouldn’t get in (I actually fitted them on the inside) - so this time I fitted them outside & get told the other way 😂😂 to be fair, if someone wants to get in they’ll smash a side window, if they’re courteous enough to remove out windows rather than smashing them they’re probably welcome aboard anyway!

      I think it’d work, we don’t actually have an electric one on the boat but I could test it when I’m back at my parents

      I didn’t think I could as the key wouldn’t fit in to the rear but if you rotate the key 90 it actually does!

    Do your doors have to be vented?

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  10 месяцев назад +1

      The previous ones weren’t & the BSS guy didn’t pick up on it, our hatch itself is very happy though (1” x 18” gap either side). The front doors vented though.
