- "The Guyver," known as "Mutronics" in Europe and South America, was released in 1991. This movie was directed by Screaming Mad George and Steve Wang, with Brian Yuzna as the producer. It draws loose inspiration from Yoshiki Takaya's Japanese manga series of the same name and was created in collaboration with Shochiku Films. The cast includes Mark Hamill, Vivian Wu, Jack Armstrong, Jimmie Walker, and David Gale.
The film centers on Sean Barker (played by Armstrong), a young man who stumbles upon an extraterrestrial artifact called "The Unit." This device transforms him into a hybrid super soldier known as "The Guyver." Barker soon discovers that a powerful corporation called Chronos is determined to obtain the Guyver unit and is engaged in the genetic engineering of monstrous creatures. The film received a mixed response from both critics and fans. A sequel titled "Guyver: Dark Hero" was released in 1994.

Yeup! They were definitely trying to capitalize on the success of the first TMNT film, particularly in its marketing where overseas, it was called “Mutronics: The Movie”

GOD!!! I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS MOVIE ON TV WHEN I WAS 7 (I STILL HAVE THE VHS TAPE, my father recorded it from H.B.O....just one problem..... watching all these movie clips the VHS that I have shows the violence!!!! For example when a guyver killed the very first zoenoid in the first battle, (or whatever you call them) in this it shows the other solenoids when the guy screams and dies. On my VHS tape it literally shows the guyver ripping off his arm and snapping his neck and throwing him across the building.....no joke
yep! These scenes on the channel are from the 2003 Directors Cut that toned down some of the violence. Recently, Unearthed Films released a 4K remaster of the original negative (gore and all included) with extra commentary and bonus features. It's a GREAT 4K transfer. You should find it online and buy it! Thanks for commenting!
Since this wasn't really explained in the movie, this isn't the real Sean but an alien-like clone of Sean. The real Sean died when he had the control metal pulled from his head.
Yeah, lots of fans believe this. I do wonder too if their is a philosophical aspect to this as well that “could” complicate the discussion. And thanks for commenting!
Not clone, Sean is reborn awaken just like anime Sho is reborn control metal awakening make it fast to fight back.
Well, what happens is that when you and the Bio-Booster armor combine together your brain and the control medal basically become the same thing. So Sean's mind was "saved" in the control medal and it made a new body for him. It's still him, his mind, but in a new body.
@@TheGuyverGeek He says "I came back for you", so I think it's the script's way of saying "He didn't really die, he's become one with the Guyver Unit so it's all him"
I am of the opinion that the user dies on the first bond, which is always depicted as a horribly painful experience that at a minimum knocks the person out. I think everything after that first merge is an alien clone situation

First time I watched this was when I was 10, stumbling upon this "instant cup of WTF" on the Sci-Fi Channel while channel surfing at my grandparents' house. It was disgusting, abhorrent, vulgar, and I couldn't look away. XD
haha! If you haven't, you should watch the superior sequel: Guyver 2: Dark Hero, which is also on the channel!

Would love to (and tried), but there is one scene that is copyright protected (Sean becoming the Guyver for the first time) so RUclips will not let me post it. I've tried a few workarounds, but to no avail. BUT, G2: Dark Hero will be up in both widescreen and theatrical here soon-ish (although it is also blocked in most countries, but not the U.S for some reason).

It is much different lol I understand fans dislike of the film, but it still holds a special place in my Guyver heart
