Thank you so much! I have had my sisterlocks since January 2021 and this is my first time washing it at home. I didn’t want to mess up my locks so I always went back to my consultant.
This is super helpful! I'm not able to go to my consultant after the two-four week period and was never given a starter kit so I'm basically on my own for a while. I was afraid to wet my hair since they said to avoid getting it wet but it needs a wash, I'm glad I found your video!
I did not get a starter kit either and I want one, I paid alot for these locks. I believe the sisterlock site is out of stock right now. My consultant said to use Suave daily clarifying shampoo ($2.00 from Dollar General store) she also said I can shampoo when I want, even the day of my installation.
I did not get a starter kit either and I am eight weeks and from the start of the install. I am very disappointed in my consultant and I desperately need to wash my hair. I have never in life waited eight weeks to wash my hair.
Great video, in depth and thorough. I appreciate you giving us a 360 while shampooing. Your Sisterlocs are flourishing! My Sisterlocs are 2 months old next week, I started with 3 inches of hair, so I’m much shorter than you 😊 my hair drys in about an hour to an hour and a half.
Tysm! I’m only 3 months in and I hate washing my hair I’m so afraid of always doing it wrong. esp since after the first retightening my consult saw some unraveling! Def trying your method to do outside of the shower. :)
So different for us gals with thick hair. Takes me about 25-30 mins just to get a lather going, about 10 mins to rinse then, a minimum of 2 hours to separate at the roots. And that's if I work quickly.
Lol. Not a “snow forest” though. I wash my hair whenever it’s necessary - if it smells, if my scalp is dirty, or if my hair looks flat and tired so I can get it to look full and fluffy again. Lol.
I don’t do anything really. I drink lots of water. Especially since I’m not using hair products anymore & I try not to over wash my hair. Or scratch it. I tend to have a drier scalp and skin during the winter when the heat is on. So I drink water a lot, and keep a humidifier in my room during those months.
I swear we have the same hair type. Have you ever used any other type of shampoo? I hear Suave clarifying shampoo is good. I am so glad you did this video. I get to wash my own hair soon. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
I'm happy to help boo! I hope you have/had a Merry Christmas as well 💖 & no. So far I've only used the starter shampoo and the green tea shampoo. I've also heard the same thing about the suave clarifying shampoo.
Do you find that you ever experience any flakes after shampooing? Like leftover dried shampoo flakes? After I wash my hair, it’s still a little flaky and I can’t tell if it’s the shampoo flakes or the shampoo making my scalp dry 🤷🏾♀️
Thanks for sharing....im so scared to wash my sisterlocs. I really try and wait for my loctician to do them. I don't know why I'm scared bc I Braid my locs all the time 😩. I guess I think I'll do damage
Hi, What shampoo do you recommend for newbies? Loc consultant only said no sulfate but I don't want to mess up the process. Youre one of the few people I actually am motivated by.
@@TheRealKylaB yes I didn't make the journey. I'd like to start with more length. I was looking rough and struggled not washing my hair because it began to smell sweaty more often
I love your video! I’m still on the fence if I want to do sister locs or micro locs. However I have a quick question for you. I noticed you only placed the shampoo on your scalp but not the actual locs themselves. In another one of your videos you mention how locs hold smells. So if you arent putting anything on the locs how are you cleaning them to eliminate the smells? Or do they get clean as you are rinsing out the shampoo?
My retightenings come with a wash. So when I go every 5 weeks, my consultant washes my hair for me. I only wash it myself if it really needs to be washed. And I squeeze the shampoo to lather them right before I rinse.
@@TheRealKylaB ok that totally makes sense. I’m the same way I can’t stand when food smells get in my hair or if you go somewhere where there’s cigarette/cigar smoking it gets in your hair LOL Thank you for responding so quickly
Question, do you go through and separate your locks to ensure there is no marrying at the roots? I do this as soon as I take my braids out (which is right away after washing...it’s usually just damp patting dry) and I usually find 1 or 2 roots that have married or joined. Curious if that part of your process. Thanks. I’m 3 months locked 😁
Yeah. I check for that around re-ti time. My locs don't marry at the roots too much anymore. They definitely did earlier in my journey. But as time has progressed, it happens less often.

I get that. You want to cut them off? or trim them to make your hair more even? I'll probably cut my heat damaged locs when my hair gets a little longer. They have no curl on the end and they aren't locking. lol. They dangle longer than my other locs in the front too. So i'll have to even them out.
I did my second retightening a week ago.I have an hyperactive scalp as we speak I have lots of dandruff,is it advisable to wash a one week retightening coz am having a bad time with dandruff’s?
Sorry. I'm just getting back to you. & listen, if you have to wash your hair, you have tp wash your hair. You have to keep doing what's best for you. How have you been managing it?

Thank you for the video. I'm about to wash my sisterlocks for the first time and this was very helpful. New subbie.

How often do you wash your hair? And your scalp looks so moisturized, I’m over hear looking like a snow forest. What do you do?
Lol. Not a “snow forest” though.

Do you condition your hair and if so with what!
I have been advised not to as my hair is so thin
Nope. I don’t condition it.
I am new to the journey ! So this is helping a lot

6 more days until my establishment! I’m so excited
Yes! As you should be. Let me know how long it takes! ❤️
@@TheRealKylaB yes ma’am I will
Ok so it only took 5 hours.., I slept the whole time... I’m in love
Yes! Welcome to the club sis!
Thank you so much
Hi! Do you think leaving the braids and bands in for a few extra hours after drying will help to avoid shrinkage?
Yeah. Probably. Cause your hair will dry stretched out.
Yes, leaving them in will definitely make a difference. I do this every time I shampoo and experience much less shrinkage.
Do you find that you ever experience any flakes after shampooing? Like leftover dried shampoo flakes? After I wash my hair, it’s still a little flaky and I can’t tell if it’s the shampoo flakes or the shampoo making my scalp dry 🤷🏾♀️
No. I haven’t experienced that before. You dilute your shampoo first, right?
Can you lather in the shower? Thank you for the video ❤
Wow! Thank you for sharing!🙏
Happy to share!

Can you dye them to cover gray hair?
How often do you wash I just got my installation done 3 days ago
Once or twice a month. Whenever my hair looks dirty or I don't like the smell.
Great video! Do you ever have to separate your locs at the root to keep them from marrying?
Every now and then. My locks were marrying the most during my first month. I haven’t had much marrying since then.
Hi,
What shampoo do you recommend for newbies? Loc consultant only said no sulfate but I don't want to mess up the process. Youre one of the few people I actually am motivated by.
well, I'm 6 months late, but I recommend clarifying shampoos in the beginning
@@TheRealKylaB yes I didn't make the journey. I'd like to start with more length. I was looking rough and struggled not washing my hair because it began to smell sweaty more often
How often do you wash your hair ? I’m getting my hair locked today 🙈
Whenever it needs to be washed. I don’t have a schedule
And congrats on starting your loc journey!
Thank you 🎈
Thanks for sharing sister locks is a lot of work
At this point, I’m gonna watch the tutorials and go ahead and wash it myself.
you were apprehensive about washing your hair yourself?
We’re you re-tightened before your wash?
This was so helpful.
happy to help
I just got my locs retwist 2 weeks ago. Ani wash them now
This was very helpful - thank you
You're welcome!
What’s different about the sisterlocks shampoo versus a regular one?
Sisterlocks shampoo is supposed to be specifically formulated to help your hair lock and minimize slippage.
this is how i do my hair too, when i have them in mini twists or my after mini twist style they tend to look like sister locks.
I always like mini twists

Right! That too. Hate that. Lol.
& no problem. 🥰
What do you put in your hair after washing?
Nothing. I wash it and that’s it. No conditioner
Is conditioning not allowed with locs?
not with sisterlocks. not until your locs are fully mature.
❤your hair where can I get the shampoo from
you can try Etsy or do a google search to see if any hair precuts websites carry it in their shops.
Nice
Great video! Thanks
how often did you wash you hair after your establishment?
Like once a month. But I usually wash my hair around the 3 week / once a month mark.
Even before locs
joining the journey...13 hours day one with more than half a head to go...whew
Yes!!! Welcome to the club!

its called the Sisterlocks starter shampoo. you can ask your consultant, you can try Etsy, you can try a google shop search

I want to cut my SistaLocs because some of my ends were straight when I got my install and my hair was uneven.

No. Especially when they’re not mature. No conditioners. No oils. No lotions etc.
Thank you, I am new to sister lock journey. Today will be my frist wash.
Happy to help!
@therealkylab you kind of resemble a dutch musician called Julia Zahra.
Really? I've never heard that before.
It appears you only washed your scap. What about the rest of the hair?
I washed the rest of my hair off camera.
During the second shampoo when I’m barely in the camera, that’s when I washed the rest of my hair.
You kinda look like monsae from on my block
How long do you use the starter shampoo?
Until your consultant says to stop. Lol
