I've taken 100 mg of Trazodone for insomnia for 20 years and I have no mental illnesses. My father committed suicide a long time ago. In 2000 my mother was murdered in her own home, and a year later my only child, my 17 yr old son Jordan was killed in an automobile accident. Trazodone was the only medication that helped me! @macktheripper2292I only take 50 mg for three months but I am so depressed taking it. Did you experience withdrawals? I want to stop it but still sleep.
Weird, I was given it specifically for panic attacks and anxiety and it seems to have worked. Just went back to work today, not drenched in sweat getting to the office. No dissociation or that knot in my stomach. It does properly knock you out for the first week though and affected my balance a bit. Sleep like a baby. Man oh man, where do I even start. When i was alot younger in my teens I was put on trazadone 50 MG and Abilify at 30 MG. After 3 years of taking these straight it turned me into a different person, literally a walking zombie. Sadly I had no one around to try and see what these things even did on there own and ultimately what happens together with the new studies coming out when taking both of these together. Now i deal with restlessness in my legs, I can walk 10 miles everyday and still feel like my legs are ready to run, from trazadone. I believe taking them both is what really F'd with my emotions. I USE to be motionless to every single thing, even seeing others I love in pain. After years of cbt and also just working hard on myself I see how damaging these drugs were to me.
on my 4th day of taking trazadone, important to remember that one person's experience will not be every person's experience. so far ive been sleeping great (wake up a lil groggy but who doesn't?) and feel great through out the day.
It’s a very useful medicine for many people. I point out unusual but serious side effects, just to help the people who have experienced them to perhaps better understand the cause. Or to maybe prevent them from being given a new (wrong) diagnosis instead of having a side effect correctly identified.
@@pyarepiyushthis kinda comment is from "begginers" in regards of taking nerve agents, the end always the same, bad issues, neuro-immune issues, neuro-imunological events that leads to all kinds of mental symptoms, (called as withdrawals syndromes) then he will be further drugged with non sense psychotropic drugs stacking until full disability and no way out aside from years of recovery or s..ide
According to my experience, trazodone can actually induce an unusual kind of withdrawal psychosis, which is probably due to its 5HT2A-antagonism (so a counter-effect occurs during withdrawal).
I have schizophrenia with prominent negative symptoms, and trazodone does an interesting effect. At 25 mg in the evening, it alleviates the negative symptoms during the day. However at 50 mg it simultaneously gives energy and worsens emotional blunting, brain fog and sexual function.
Last night I took my first dose of 25 mg for insomnia. I really did help. I do feel tired today, but that in itself is not that unusual for me. I also use CPAP machine for sleep apnea, and I only had one apnea event per hour.

It's prescribed as a "harmless sleep aid." It did help me get sleep after not sleeping well for about 3 months due to stress. However, I feel so groggy in the morning and never look "refreshed" like I do when I'm getting good sleep. I will usually awaken at 5 or 6 when I want to wake up around 7. I feel very, very groggy and out of it while on it during the day. I will try to get off it.
i got prescribed this while in the military and had the same effects. However, my doc told me it was due to water intake, Once i adjusted that, no more lethargic feeling.
@@Heed2070 yes, been on it since getting back from iraq in 2014-15, got the water situation under control around mid 2016, the rest is history. I can actually sleep, with no night terrors like with ambien.
Dr. prescribed Trazodone an anti-severe depression resulting in sleep so used for insomnia, but when used with Buspirone an anti-anxiety med, it dropped my blood pressure down to 90/57 p54. Couldn't sleep and couldn't get out of bed, and dizzy as hell when standing up. Awful and scared me to death.
First let it be stated that I am neurodivergent. I have PTSD, ADHD, and am autistic. I say this because having a differing neurological landscape, I believe, matters a lot in terms of my personal experience. I was prescribed trazodone for sleep and took it only once. I felt as if sleepiness were a sort of helmet. But there was within my mind a sense of nervousness, fear, and anxiety accompanying the sleepiness. This seems counter intuitive, but it was my experience. I was informed of this before I took it, so being aware that I could feel that way as a side effect helped me find a solution. I paired it with 1 mg of Xanax and it did the trick. But I won't be taking trazodone again.
Wish this medication was in a longer form. I always wake up in the middle of the night with it. Also another cool thing it does is basically completely stop a serotonin based psychedelic trip in almost 30 minutes.

@wartok Yes my friend they do seem to get me off to sleep okay. But if I say take them at 10pm ? Half Ten and I'm normally asleep, yet it's usually broken sleep, and then once it gets to around 3 - 4 a.m, I seem to awaken like it's 7am, and then I usually have trouble getting back off to sleep, and even if I do, It's basically like meditation, very light sleep. Which then makes me tired by lunchtime and I then have a nap for a few hours, and it's like I've been drugged, I actually have to fight to stay awake. Thing is Wartok when I wake up at silly O'clock in the early hours, as soon as my eyes open, my mind just races through so many thoughts and their not usually happy thoughts 🙃 Why do you ask brother.. Are you on any meds from your doc 🤘🏻
@@See-through-The-Veil So I took 50mg last night for the first time and experienced exactly what you went through basically. I woke up maybe 3-4 times but always ended up going back to sleep. Thanks for the response friend hope all is well with you.
I had a nightmare the other night; I threw my pillow while sleeping against a shadow in my nightmare that woke me up, and that scared me, too. I'm not taking it anymore. No more Trazodone

I found a better medication for sleep that actually improves sleep and a lower dose has the sleep effect while a larger does not. It is called mirtazapine. Only issue is tolerance can happen kinda quick so try not to take the full tablet and don't take it every night. It also can make you very hungry so something like 5 htp that can lower hunger or a healthy snack is needed. Maybe patients can trade off trazodone and mirtazapine. Ask that person if there are options that don’t involve medications that create a priapism risk.

on my 4th day of taking trazadone, important to remember that one person's experience will not be every person's experience. so far ive been sleeping great (wake up a lil groggy but who doesn't?) and feel great through out the day.
It’s a very useful medicine for many people.
I point out unusual but serious side effects, just to help the people who have experienced them to perhaps better understand the cause. Or to maybe prevent them from being given a new (wrong) diagnosis instead of having a side effect correctly identified.

I aint buying that

@@cybco Thanks for the reply man I wish you well. I'm gonna look into those meds.
That might explain a lot. I feel totally disconnected
That trazadone made me psychotic
Never had a psychedelic trip but I do have vivid dreams.

Hi @farralad73. I really try to avoid dispensing any sort of specific medical advice in the comments section. However, I’m making an exception in this case. First. Look up the term “priapism” or “trazodone-induced priapism.” Second. Immediately contact whoever prescribed you the trazodone and tell them what is happening, especially about the erections. Third. Ask that person if there are options that don’t involve medications that create a priapism risk.
@@AskDrErik yeah symptoms are just like viagra...hard on...headache i noticed on lots off vids about that side effect I really think I need a proper anti depressant buddy...im at my wits end 😥
@@farralad734 did you find a med to help you sleep?
@wartok zopiclone 7.5 ml....prescribed by pchyco hospital were I ended up !
@@farralad734 Hope you are doing alright now friend. This feeling can suck.
I went hypomanic almost manic on it,and I could not sleep on it and I became hyper sexual. It probably happened because I am bipolar 2.I liked it though. It certainly beats mixed episodes or depression.
What was your dosage? and how long were you taking it when you started to feel manic?
@@nikoashford3640 It was probably with in an hour or two.It wasn’t full mania though. It was hypomanic. It says on the insert from the pharmacy that can happen. They do have extended release trazadone which is what I would take since it isn’t all at once and I would not have that issue. It would make a better antidepressant that way since it wouldn’t be a burst of it and it would just be gradual.
@@nikoashford3640 It was 50mgs also.
It can cause psychosis? I take it for insomnia and I have schizophrenia lol
thank you for this
please do more talks on this poisonous medication
it didn't give me psychosis imo but heavily affected my vision
my quality of life is impaired because of it & i only did it for 19 days
What happened to your vision?
@@josesy-_-boi8354 i get weird flickering in my peripheral vision, also get this messed up pattern glare that makes lines vibrate all day , heavy BFEP, an increase in dark floaters i never had before.
@@Genesis817 have you done benzos before?
@@josesy-_-boi8354 trazodone & hydroxyzine are the only meds ive ever taken in my life for mood/sleep etc. I'll never try another pharmaceutical in my life after what i went through. I've also heard coming off Benzos is hell too so i won't touch it.
@@Genesis817 That sucks man. Has your vision improved at all? And yeah, stay away from benzos. The withdrawal really is hell

What's worse than not sleeping? Getting your hopes up with a prescription sleep medicine that causes the inside of your head to look and sound like the TV static from the 70's. ALL NIGHT LONG!! Useless.
Trazadone is wonderful and no side effects at all
