    Our veterinarian has prescribed this for one of our dogs who struggles with exceedingly high anxiety. He takes it every night, and his overall daily anxiety has lowered noticeably. We tried everything else before agreeing to trying him on this. We are not lazy. He has a full, active life, competes in flyball, lure coursing, and many other varied dog sports. He only competes or plays in the ones he enjoys. He loves most of them. For rainy or freezing days, we purchased a dog treadmill, and use that so he can get at least some physical activity in. When doing all of this before trazodone, he could be physically exhausted, but still whine and pace. His mind would not shut down. It was very sad to watch. So, for him, this medicine being prescribed ‘off label’ has been a godsend.

      @helener7545 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Laurita-ev8me Good question. For some breeds, I think an abundance of physical activity could be too much, but his lineage is hunting dogs. Dogs who are not only “pet” dogs (nothing wrong with pet dogs) can be all types of working dogs. Working dogs, hunting dogs, etc., thrive on physical activity. If they cannot due precisely what they were bred for, they can do sports that are similar in nature. It is actually not fair to own a very active working or hunting breed, and relegate it to a dog who gets a couple of walks a day. Our guy doesn’t do sports every day, or even every week, but if he’s not walked, ( not neighborhood walks) and allowed to run on a long leash at least 4 days out of 7, he will become more miserable, and need more medicine. I can explain more, if you’re interested.

      @@Laurita-ev8me He’s actually my daughter’s dog who moved back home after graduating from UC Davis with. B.A., and just last spring received her M.S. in Canine Behavior from Bergin College. She is at this time trying to decide is she should apply for vet school at Davis, or use her M.S. in more of a behavioral setting. She has many friends who are in the animal world with great credentials, as well as veterinarian friends. She has come to the conclusion that he needs meds. She has worked with him consistently from when he was a baby very hard, to train him. Endless hours have been spent working with him, and he is so smart, and responds so well to her training, it’s beautiful to see.
      Temperament is hereditary behavior in dogs just as in humans. He is AKC registered, breeders hid the fact that his mother and probably her mother had bad temperaments. AKC bred dogs are not supposed to breed unless to standard, and temperament and behavioral issues are genetic, and not allowed by AKC. It’s very sad for him, and we could have gone after them legally, but, “hanging Papers”, lying about pedigree, happens so much in these AKC dogs, my daughter didn’t feel strong enough to deal with the backlash. She thought she had investigated, but you live and learn. I’m sorry my response was so long. He probably would have been put down in most other homes, but he is well managed and has a good life with us. He is a very reactive dog with people, children, some other dogs, everything his breed shouldn’t be, and we’ve owned another dog of his breed before. It stems from fear and anxiety. We love him, and will always protect others. He has never bitten anyone, but I believe that is solely due to my daughter’s diligent management of him, and part of that is trazodone. I’m glad she doesn’t show him. He would have hated it. Sorry again for the novel.

    My anxiety keeps my mind looping out of control when trying to fall asleep. I spent decades being in between sleep and wakefulness most of the night, often only reaching unconsciousness for a few hours. Trazadone has been a Godsend for me. I was prescribed 50mg, and it works amazingly. When I forget to take it, I toss and turn in the half-conscious mind looping until I realize that I’ve forgotten (or don’t sleep that night…). I don’t like being beholden to medications, so I’ve backed off my dose to 25, and even 12.5 and have still found the sleep benefit to be present far beyond not taking it. I did try to quit cold-turkey once to compare (did I mention I don’t like meds…) and had some side effects of stopping, but I have decided that if I want to sleep and feel human, this is the solution for me. Your mileage may vary, and we all react differently, but I’m getting close to 15 years and can’t live without this medication.

    Trazodone 50mg worked great for insomnia HOWEVER I've had a rough time getting off of it. You become physically dependent on it after a short time. I'm still tapering off it after more than a year. If I taper any faster I get bad withdrawal symptoms.

    Never needed more than 50 but sometimes I’ve done 100 thinking about depression but in general I’m at the age when any pills should be considered strongly. Only just heard about twice a day and am trying 25 x2 daytime and 50 at bed time. I’ve never had much of a problem with it over 20 years during which time I stopped a couple times with absolutely no side effects except loss of of sleep at first. Mild though.

      25 mg is usually a very low dosage for depression. You should take at least 100/150 mg to see its antidepressant effects. But anyway, you better consulting a doctor and never rise or lower the dose by yourself!!

    My wife started using Trittico XR few days ago, taking one dose 150mg at evening as a swap for prozac, bcause of heavy libido loss with SSRI. And she sleeps for 9-12 hours, and even after that, she looks half alive for the rest of next day. I just hope, that this sedative reaction will subside in time. She has also drug resistant epilepsy. We are just tired of trying new medications, bcause none of them works as it should, and even if it works (prozac helped with general emotional state), it has very harsh side effects.
