    I have loved his boats for years and was finally able to purchase a vessel built off the RS-22 lines a couple of years back. It is my home now and I am looking to one day sail it to Norway and see where it all began.
    Thanks for a great video!!!

    My dream boat! I lived on the island of Ulvoya ( Wolf Island) in the Oslo Fjord when I was very young and there were a couple anchored there....I've always had a total fascination for them ever since. I'm a sailor myself now but I will never be able to afford one. Fabulous history on these Colin Archers. Super vid! I watch it over and over. Thanks.

    No idea of the Norwegian language, but the Stavanger is one awesome classic boat. Real sailors man that vessel!

    No other sailing boat has better behaviour in high waves, making it quite confortable during long voyages.

    Too bad those old boats don't actually work in real life. Where's his electric auto pilot? Where are his electric self tailing winches? Are all his lines led aft? I bet he doesn't even have Kevlar sails! Amazing he got out of the harbor in one piece!
    In all seriousness, that's one of the most beautiful and perfect boats ever made by the hand of man, and this is one of the best videos on RUclips.

    Colin Archer designed and built some of the greatest seaworthy boat that were ever built. Is anyone building them in Norway?

    Check out Iain Oughtred's 18 foot Wee Seal design. He also has a 22 foot version, Grey Seal. You can definitely see the influence. Oughtred has been influenced heavily by the Norwegian boats.

    I have been a great admirer of Colin Archer's designs for many years as well, especially the RS boats. They mustbe the most seaworthy vessels ever designed. I saw the STAVANGER under canvas outside the Norske Maritime Museum in July. Her planking has shrunk considerably, and she looked every bit her age. When in Bergen, I saw another RS boat apparently being refitted. I couldn't get very close to her. I would love to see photos of your boat! Where do you sail her?

    We are currently in Alaska and will be heading south in a couple of days weather permitting. Our boat was a one off made of steel in France in 1969 and is a bit of an odd duck; but we love her all the same. You can see some pictures of her on our blog which you can fine by doing a search for "steelketch.blogspot" in google. Thanks for the comment.

    @budnotu : Hello! There are a few boatbuilders in Norway who build Colin Archer: Oslo trebåtbyggeri, Fredrikstad Maritime Senter, Hansen&Arntzen in Statelle, Risør Trebåtbyggeri, Hardanger Fartøyvernsenter, Djupvåg Båtbyggeri.

    Call and talk with he great people at Larvik Maritime Museum. They have almost all of Mr. Archers original plans and will run copies for you for a very reasonable price. I ordered the 1902 Russian plans from them and they were great.

    What are the Dimensions of this Boat specifically does anyone know? Im look at a Colin Archer design Ketch that is 40 feet overall, and trying to compare it to this one dimensionally and layout wise. Do they have a website?

    • @obidamnkenobi
      @obidamnkenobi 5 лет назад

      FWIW at 1:47 they say this one is 47 ft long, 4.65 m wide/beam, and displace 31 tons (I assume metric). 110 m^2 sail area. And in 1901 cost 10,363 NOK ;)
