  • Maintenance on the bom and gaff.
It's been at least 8-10 years since last time. The previous owner used some kind of warnish. I use Owatrol Oil D1.

Thanks for the video. I'm trying to do the same with my boom an gaff. They look like they are in the same condition as yours. What did you use to fill up the cracks? And what are your experiences now after a couple of years with it?

I filled the crack with epoxy. Took a few days to get it all filled. Last winter we lightly sanded the gaff, and gave it a few more coats. The boom has not seen any oil since the video, and it still looks good. Some places on the boom, the ropes and lines have worn away some of the D1. Not a big issue, and I will address it this winter. I'm taking down the gaff, boom, and the mast.

@@SVKajsa great, thanks for the reply. I saw on your Instagram channel that you use owatrol regularly (excessively :-). When you apply it to something that has been sanded, I wonder whether you put on those 16 coats on after the other or whether you can put on a few coats and then wait, for example over night? some people say, just put on enough until it is saturated, that is until the oil stays on the surface? And then wipe off the excess oil with a rag? I wonder how you go about it.

@@moorooduc On pine, the first 6-8 coats go in the wood. The rest starts to build up. I do not let it go more than 24hr between coats. You get a magic result with 16/8/4. I got a video here were I can see myself in the wood. That was Siberian lark. Cool that you found us on Insta. Thanks. Yes, I do use an insane amount of Owatrol.
