    Oh you are definitely crazy. Crazy is a good thing though. Lol. I see you have Longridge’s book lying in the background. If you don’t have it yet get the Anatomy of the ship book “The 100-gun Ship Victory” by John McKay. It has complete rigging tables and rigging diagrams. Also the book “The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War 1625-1860” is a very comprehensive and valuable reference book. That Caldercraft kit is definitely on my list of future builds. I’m guessing it will end up being possibly my final kit in life. I’m 53 and I figure I’ll get to it in about 3 or 4 years after I finish what I already have and I want to try a smaller kit from caldercraft like maybe their HMS Bounty before I take the plunge on the Victory. I’d be interested on your opinion of the quality of the caldercraft kit, at least for what you’ll be able to discern from what you have. Scale accuracy is really important for me so the caldercraft kit has that in its favor already.

    Really great seeing the two together like this! I'm still in the process of building the DelPrado 1/100 scale partwork Victory using the Caldercraft instructions as a guide to converting her to the accurate Trafalgar configuration ie, forward bulwarks etc. I have also been given a DeAgostini Victory by a fellow modeller, he got in on ebay but missing some of the later magazines and parts which proved too difficult to find (or too expensive) to complete it. One day I'll be getting around to her and trying something new - building her as a post Trafalgar Victory, in the condition she was in whilst being towed back to Gibraltar - won't need most of the masts then! Great video and thanks! PS The Caldercraft version is supposed to be the most accurate Trafalgar version after Caldercraft's extensive research - the bulwarks were there at the battle (as a part of the ship, not added specially) but were removed, along with the poopdeck bulwarks as well, in later refits to look as she does at Portsmouth today.

    Hi John, you would need a bigger display case too! Don't forget the step by step 1/84 video's which cover the rigging step by step John. Tiny details can as you know be upgraded with printed parts etc. Even more fun for you then John. Regards JH 😉⚓

      I was really interested in the 1/64 scale HMS Victory from Amati that may never happen now, you would need a stately home to display that scale John

    Do you have a recipe or a particular brand and color that you used for the yellow ochre on the hull and for the red in the gun ports? I really like that compared to the brighter yellow that you see on a lot of Victory models.

    • @Johnbuildsiconic

      Hi Richard, It’s admiralty paints range, yellow ochre Ive used the admiralty range on all of Victory

    Seeing the two ships side by side, for the casual observer one would be hard pressed to find fault in either one in terms of accuracy. Their both beautiful ships. But from your description of the Pros /Cons of both models, it appears the larger one has far better detailed step-by-step instructions, and is more accurate, whereas the other model lacks detailed step-by-step instructions and is not as accurate. Also, wouldn't the larger scale be easier to build with larger parts?

    • @Johnbuildsiconic
      @Johnbuildsiconic  Год назад

      Hi Rick, yes the larger scale 1/84 Victory would be easier to build, because of the larger parts, and step by step guide, but it all comes down to how accurate a model of Victory the builder wants
