Hello Alex, I'm giving you a like as I write this comment. I'm sure you will succeed building this model and will be one for history books in modeling. Kudos
The wailing and nashing of teeth was heard worldwide when the Victory’s conservators published the correct buff colour for the topsides. I bet many a prized model was quietly put into storage.. ...nah seriously, she was painted half a dozen colours during her long career, and it usually was whatever Chatam or Portsmouth had laying about. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine several colours being mixed together just to use them up.
That is a beautiful kit, I really like Heller models, they had so many models, from space Kits to ancient Roman and Greek ship models. On my workbench right now is a wooden Dragon Olympic sailing boat from Heller, pretty rare 😎
I was lucky enough to be gifted by a friend recently the following - Heller 1/200 L' Indomptable, Heller 1/150 Le Glorieux and the Heller 1/150 Amerigo Vespucci. And for good measure two Airfix 1/87 HMS Bountys'. This followed a conversation we had about me getting into modelling more seriously now that I don't need to work, after only dabbling on and off over the years. The Heller kits look great and I haven't decided which one to tackle first. I'm just finishing Revells 1/110 HMS Bounty at the moment as this was a nice kit at a great price to get started with sailing ships. New plastic kits for sailing ships seem to be a bit thin on the ground now but I've just recently added to my stash from Airfix the 1/130 Cutty Sark and the 1/180 HMS Victory from their vintage classics range. I'm new to sailing ship kits but I'm looking forward to the challenge, they are certainly more involving than a tank! I would love to add this kit that Alex is building to the stash but they seem hard to find and when they do come up they are quite a price. Happy modelling my friend.
@@AlexModeling The same. And I don't comment on your modelling skills because others with far better skills than myself (who don't build ships (or planes)) alleady have done this better than I can.

Great work, well done. I can only admire your craft and hope one day to emulate it a tiny bit. I have returned to the hobby after a long absence and have been taunting myself with a RN ship of the line build. The trouble is that I am cursed with perfectionism, and I know a build like yours would drive me insane. Just take the name on the rear. There are many pictures in books and online of those letters but the number of variations is perplexing. Even since Victory has been in dry-dock the spacing of the letters has changed a number of times. There are even drawings of the model's original layout with the ellipse(?) surrounding the name ... and for years I have thought that was just plain wrong, but apparently not! The after market kits are amazing and I know I'd just have to use one, or two or three or four until the detail is just right. Then there is the rigging. I would spend hundreds on a model I would never be happy with until it was just so. It would never get finished. No, I'll stick with tanks for now ...🙃
Kindred spirits, you and I, in our passion for the details! Accurs'd evermore we are, for all eternity to shamble the gloom- shrouded lower decks of our unfinished models, our chains and our shackles rattling and clattering their deathless dirge as we wail and weep in doleful accompaniment! "OHHHHHHH! OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!" we moan our largo, minor chord glissando . . . . Yes, I am an aspiring novelist. How can you tell?
The veneer is much better imho. I once laid a wooden deck, plank by plank on a model of the Cutty Sark. I discarded the plastic deck, glued square stock to the underside of the molded waterways, and individually planked the deck. After that, I threw away all the plastic and built it out of wood. It was a gorgeous model.
I'm currently working on constructing a Dumas Mister Darby RC tug boat, it is beautiful but because of its size of round 48in it is very hard to work on and paint and to get all of the details right and to scale. But great work on the HMS Victory.
We have strong links here in Gibraltar with the royal navy ,we always remember, the victory was towed into Gibraltar after the battle and anchored here on the bay ,yep.
Working on this myself. I wanted to see what you did with part 344 - the blue facade at the bow. Nice to have confirmation that it just doesn't fit 😀. In the end I used a razor and an emory board to shave/file down the tabs on the back of the piece. That got me to the point where it is at least flush with the fuselage. The half towers on the side side hang over, but nothing to be done about that.
@@AlexModeling If I was reviewing this kit with a 5 star rating I would be confused. I would want to give it 5 stars and 1 star at the same time. You have to be able to patiently deal with less than ideal instructions. You have to understand that a mistake can be very difficult to reverse. I am on the later stages of the hull and I am quaking in fear at the thought of getting the masts to fit 😀 That said, it's a beautiful kit that rewards you for patience. The detail is wonderful. As an avid miniature painter I am loving what some have criticized as overdone wood grain detail. It's a dream to wash and drybrush. Nice build and thanks for the video.

Sometimes the exaggerated details have to be blurred in order to keep it within the scale of the model. Would it be possible to design it so we could pull on the halyards and raise the yards out of their lifts or brace the yards round to wear the ship as if under sail. I've sailed the real thing. Also, it's a myth that gun decks were painted red to hide the sight of the blood from the injured, in fact they needed to highlight any blood splatter so they could find the wounded quickly in the half lights of the gun decks and get them to the surgery quickly.
Absolutely . That's precisely what I would do when my father and I were professional model-makers . He would concentrate on the main components and I made all the fittings and made the rigging work . The standing rigging as the name implies , supports the masts and is stationary . However the running rigging is movable , and requires fittings that work . Considering whether to get the combined airpump and sprayer or the type that uses a separate airpump. With the Victory I'm thinking of having the gun hatches open and close probably connected to the gun carriages so they move in and out. The imagination is without limits. Lol Best of luck.
@@das5813 Nice one das . I'm ,even now, not interested in airbrushes . I've had a couple but I get a reasonable finish with the old 'hairy stick' . Preparation is vital for a good paint finish . That and polishing between coats . I love the idea/plan to hinge the hatch and to connect it to the carriage . Tell you what , mate . I love those little brass hinges that Alex used for the 1/18 Dauntless flying surfaces . I don't know if they came with the kit , or if he bought them separately . Probably too big for your purpose , but I'd love to use some to improve some of my 1/18 diecast model cars . I hate those 'dog-leg' hinges used on doors and bonnets/hoods . I salute you for doing an excellent job, especially all the detail involved. I am kind of curious as to how you managed to glue the parts together as glue and paint do not mix well. Looked to me that some parts left no side unpainted. Myself, i have done small and big scale of HMS Victory, both from Revell. Small ones were nightmare to do. All plastic sails suck.
For the beams you mention around 56:00 - Do you think, that it would be sufficent to "strengthen" those by adding some sort of Metal rod´s into the beam´s opening?
This has been giving a huge inspiration,so Ive started making HMS Victory also. I cant understand the very first sides of The brochure, there are some od ropes in the first pages. What is the meening of them?

hi alex been following your excellent heller victory build , pls can you help me page 20 part numbers m25, m26, m9 and m10 what sprue numbers are these on please thanks bob
I purchased this kit about 12 years ago and it was a nightmare. Too many parts were misaligned and other parts had a set to them. The hull itself did not line up correctly. After a couple of years of on again off again construction I was getting close to finishing her but the shelf I had her setting on collapsed. That was the last straw.

The Ochre colour is not quite right- look at vids and photos of Victory in portmouth harbour uk. Its in the middle of a 3year refurb but still open to the public.
Being a retired professional modeller I used to , too . However , I still believe we can and should appreciate others such as those who have a plastic model and do their best . Then there are others who , like I do now , enjoy starting with a plastic kit then add detail or modify into a different 'version' as in aircraft and vehicles .

I am also experimenting with cutting door details out and making doors and hatches open and close. With the Victory I'm thinking of having the gun hatches open and close probably connected to the gun carriages so they move in and out.
The imagination is without limits. Lol
Best of luck.
I totally agree with your comment of "The imagination is without limits. " All the best , das . Pete
The last hms victory modle you built i got for chritmas last year and got a modle of the s.s cutty sark for my birthday that year also and will make a big challenge for me with all the rigging
Go for it! Good luck!
Le résultat est très sympa bravo
super y gracias por el aporte del video . and have nice day thank for the video happy men not worry every men have a miss sometime
AM upload, always chill and friendly, 2 thumbs up 👍😃👍
Wow. Wood decking and copper hull really stand out. Epic build Alex. Lot of seriously hard work but the results speak for themselves. All of that PE would have driven me nuts, but man it looks good
Wood decking ???? I only see plastic
You are blind!
@@josephtang6640 recheck the video mate. I'm always very keen to learn new techniques so if you have any videos or photos of your work then please share as I'd be keen to view them and learn form your knowledge. Cheers
Dude, with your voice and accent you should be in radio, or voiceover work. Came to see the ship, stayed for the calming voice.
Actually i don't like the way i sound to myself... Thank you! 🙂👍
Very nice Alex Very Nice
Thank you!
For the beams you mention around 56:00 - Do you think, that it would be sufficent to "strengthen" those by adding some sort of Metal rod´s into the beam´s opening?
gracias por la muestra de este gran video super
What about the masts, the sails, the rigging, and all the crew figures?
did i miss something? where are the mastes, sails, rigging?
I want to see the finished ship.....
the model must be so fantastic...
I'm over to perth Australia and go buy this model of hms victory 1.225 scale airfix or heller from perth rc hobby model centre pty
This has been giving a huge inspiration,so Ive started making HMS Victory also. I cant understand the very first sides of The brochure, there are some od ropes in the first pages. What is the meening of them?
Hi Alex can you still buy the daft photo etch for the victory. Regards dave

Dear alex have you given any thought on adding some lighting to the victory?
No sir, i haven t
I did the HMS Victory from Airfix a long time ago. The only thing I would differently now is try and get someone to sew real sails for me, as I never liked the plastic ones. I'm curious about this Heller version. Is it still available?
When will we see the return?
Really?
@@AlexModeling yh I loved seeing the HMS Victory being built and I would love to see it finished

Hello, how much would it cost to buy a HMS victory galion already built, because we're big fans of lord Nelson
hi alex been following your excellent heller victory build , pls can you help me page 20 part numbers m25, m26, m9 and m10 what sprue numbers are these on please thanks bob
Unfortunatly im using the Japanese instrucions... Allow me some time to get my older Heller ones And i will get back to you
@@AlexModeling thank you alex
Building this kit at the moment, its going to take a while.
Good luck for yours!
I purchased this kit about 12 years ago and it was a nightmare. Too many parts were misaligned and other parts had a set to them. The hull itself did not line up correctly. After a couple of years of on again off again construction I was getting close to finishing her but the shelf I had her setting on collapsed. That was the last straw.
tu gostas de castigo...lol... curto ver continua
Hello from Germany Alex thank your great Videos i apreciate that we all See what great Work with so ki h Heart you do

The Ochre colour is not quite right- look at vids and photos of Victory in portmouth harbour uk. Its in the middle of a 3year refurb but still open to the public.

In 1972, i cheated a school competition. I built the Airfix Victory. I won the competition.

I do only wooden ship models made of wood and metal and silk,, just like the real thing. The average build takes 400 hours.
Being a retired professional modeller I used to , too . However , I still believe we can and should appreciate others such as those who have a plastic model and do their best . Then there are others who , like I do now , enjoy starting with a plastic kit then add detail or modify into a different 'version' as in aircraft and vehicles .
@@peterbellwood5412 Yep.I have done them too.... when I was a child. It was fun.
@@timhallas4275 I still do . But I'm talking pretty serious work .
@@peterbellwood5412 I switched from model ships to actual guitars about 10 years ago. I found a better use for wood. I always wanted to build a real boat from scratch, but never had the money to get started.
@@timhallas4275 Serious kudos , Tim . That's a true skill you have . Do you make furniture ? I was never very good with shaping wood , but I've always loved miniature . I was more than happy to make the wooden fittings for the large scale model ships my father and I made . We were commissioned to make quite a few models for the Admiralty , plus various museums including the Maritime Museum at Greenwich . We made a large model of the Golden Hind that was a 'prize' on 'Sale of the Century' . It would be interesting to find out what happened to it .
I have a 1/72 scale wooden model of the victory that I am never going to build.
Why ? Is it because you don't think you're up to it ? If you wanted , there are people that would happily build it for you .
you talking too much... IMVHO.

I visited the real ship once, very impressive.
Ahoy Alex Great Job Buddy, I am Posting another video On mine Mine Is Ready For The Start Of The Rigging. Your doing A Marvelous Job My Man I love your videos buddy Your English Was always Pwerfect I(n My book Buddy Carry On Alex God bless you buddy Frankie
Should try and look into wooden ship modelling! Way more challenging and rewarding and can guarantee you once you make your first wooden ship model you will never want to go back to plastic ever again!
