2:24:45 About the DX11 stuff in GW2: there was a blogpost earlier this year where they were talking about a few different things related to it: "Thanks to DX11, we’ve been able to increase the number of armature bones and lighting objects for new models and environments, build full 360-degree skyboxes, and begin using vertex animation (or point-level animation). One of the engine improvements we’re working on right now is an upgrade to BC7 texture compression, a significant jump over the technology that we’ve been leveraging since the launch of the game. This will improve the clarity and fidelity of in-development and future textures, most notably for weapons, visual effects, environments, and creatures. In the longer term, we’ll be evaluating the feasibility of upgrading existing, already-shipped textures to BC7 compression, but there are some technical hurdles for us to overcome before we commit. We’ll have more developments to share on this front as the team continues their work." IIRC Shaman has also mentioned that it is actually implemented now.
Interesting. It sounds good but I'm still seeing "This WILL improve" "future textures". I'm not sure I can say JW was a substantive jump up (neither in performance nor in fidelity), and the older maps are not affected at all! Not sure I believe in the fruits of the labour yet. But fair enough they are working with it, absolutely!
@@WoodenPotatoes it's very well possible that JW wasn't using this tech yet since it was still in development while they were implementing this, and they couldn't count on it being ready by the time the expac released. Just a theory though.
The thing that gets me about triple triad is that while its original implementation was no doubt costly (all the initial cards, game framework, the multiplayer, etc), since then all they do is a little bit of 2d art and design work each expac (and a mount reward every couple) to give a massive carrot on the stick for a lot of players. It really is the poster child for how a minigame can thrive and be evergreen if thought out well from the start and maintained afterwards. So a small part of me hopes that gw2 can get around to doing something like it one day.
You should try Machinist once you reach HW. The lore is cool, the skills are awesome, the job quests are decent. It’s my favorite class! I’m not fond of the other 2 but machinist is kicking ass
One big system from ARR you haven't done (or maybe I missed it) is the treasure hunting! That's a pretty big deal since it also gets updates each expac and it's the main leisurely gil grind for casuals.
I hear you saying at the start of this stream that we're nearing the "end of the series". Are you going to treat each expac as it's own "series" & and will you be jumping straight into Heavensward when you're done with the ARR content?
2:16:05 It is beautiful Segolii desert reuse. Did you know you can actually see Gold Saucer from the desert in open world? This takes place in actual world (though not open world version of course :P)
I'd say you have a good read on FF16. The game is fundamentally a spectacle fighter with some all but nonexistent rpg elements. The game could have the most incredible story, characters, setting, homages, feature list in the entire series (it doesnt), if you want an RPG 16 is not a game you should pay attention to. Biggest props I can personally give it is that it's the most complete FF I've seen since probably 6, mmo's and sequels notwithstanding. Even the 3d golden era had glaring holes, but with 16 you can tell they did all they wanted to do to the point where the dlc's are kinda jerryrigged on top awkwardly.
1:03:40 "FF16 only came out a few months ago".... oh WP it came out June last year. Either you mean the PC version or im about to give you an existential crisis
This game's physics has always been considered janky, the fact that they would add fall guys within it seems so bizarre to me. FF has always had a thing for blending genres but this is just something else. What an acid trip. Its like Fortnie when the devs are constantly using a current game to add other games inside. Its strange to think about, playing a worse version of another game but...you get rewards towards your main MMO character
If want more Tonberries... play the scholar quest. Hehe

A really good point, yeah. TT is super expandable and not too tricky! I think card games within MMOs are just a really great thing to have.

I did do treasure hunting, it's at the end of the base game when I first swapped to Maechen!

Yeah exactly each expac is it's own "series" and there will be small gaps after each one!
Thanks for clarifying! I've been really enjoying the vods. Looking forward to the future expansions!
They're coming up real quick!

Haha acid trip is right! I'll have to go in and play a bit more and see how it feels, but it was definitely a strange moment.
Not really sure where the negativity for XVI I've noticed around the internet lately is coming from. I played through it and thought it was fantastic.
I imagine it's because it's a different style of gameplay and tonally a little more serious than most
