      @@GrimmSpeed Thanks, do you guys know about the reliability of the car with these mods? I don't drive like a maniac like a majority of STI owners but I don't want it to break on me even with normal driving or the occasional pulls. From what I've seen some people pretty much say that the power you guys got on the Stage 3 video is pretty much the max before reliability goes down.

    Are there plans to do the same thing for the 2015+ WRX? I know the installation is mostly similar, but it'll be educational to see the differences between the WRX and STi due to different engines.

    • @GrimmSpeed
      @GrimmSpeed  3 года назад

      Really the only thing keeping us from doing something similar to our shop WRX is time, we're so busy with manufacturing that it's hard to pull away and do multiple video series filming at the same time. It's not out of the realm of possibility however, especially if the STI series does well!

    Is a newer STI just that much better than the older generations? I feel like they’ve had about 300 hp since mid 2000s. I had a 2008 STI that I had a stage 2 tune on and on a Dyno dynamics Dyno it only made 290 whp and 310 tq. Wasn’t sure if the dynos were that far off or if the new generations are just significantly better?! Great videos makes me want to get another STI

      COBB site also says these are the numbers...the "rating" from Subaru is felt by many to be shall we say very, very conservative.....295 on 93 stock (airbox, etc.) is the number...so at the crank multiply by 1.2....again to be conservative....you get about 350 stock....so a stage II from the 18..... The 19+ is a great, great ej....the best one we get in the US at least.
      Also seems that good engineers set up cars at 10% under where they can easilly go stock to give a "safety" margin. That is not a rule but seems to be the case across a lot of cars over the years that I have had - turbocharged cars only... It makes sense from a corporate point of view to take the variations out there in perhaps materials and lower the top to make all the products sold the same.....so people don't say "I got a good one" etc....or I got a bad one.....
      The RA engined cars probably make 350 to the crank stock and could probably make 380 with a top tier tune and some luck of the draw... This is a great video because it shows what a protune stage 1 can do.....most to OTS at stage 1. I find the outcome remarkable. Curiosu on the downpipe. And curious on the need for an AOS now....

If it was directly from us, give support@grimmspeed.com a shout to see what the hold up is, if you ordered it through a dealer of ours, give them a call. Depending on the part, it may be on back order because of the hugely increased demand this year, or maybe we're waiting on something like a hardware supplier to come through with an order for us. • @christopheredwards357
    @christopheredwards357 3 года назад +1

    It would be interesting to see the numbers with a custom tune without the intake and 3 port. Probably exactly the same. 3 port is not needed at this level. Intake is more of a noise maker than power gainer. The factory air box on the 15+ sti is actually very good and all that is needed is a good aftermarket filter. Here in the uk the factory air box is good upto 400hp (engine hp), before a 3inch intake is needed. All due respect, but this video looks like a marketing video for items that just aren't needed stage 1 level.
    Stage 1 = custom tune with filter
    Stage 2 = turbo back exhaust, filter, cold plugs (advisable) and custom tune
    Stage 3 = turbo back exhaust, filter, injectors, 3 port, fuel pressure regulator, plugs and custom tune.
    Stage 4 = all of stage 3, forged build, upgraded turbo and fuel pump.
    Stage 5 = all of stage 4, headers/uppipe and front mount

    • @GrimmSpeed
      @GrimmSpeed  3 года назад +4

      Hey Christopher! You can tune your car up from stock power levels with the factory intake/2-port, but your engine will have to work harder to try and get towards the same point. A well-built aftermarket intake acts at decreasing restriction before the turbo, directly contributing to a performance gain in terms of more boost (Remove 1psi restriction from the filter and you get 1psi at the turbo effectively). If you're using the same boost level as before that same decrease in restriction can lead to quicker spool up, but more often it has cooler charge air temperatures because the turbo now is working less hard. Part of the purpose of the Stage 1 modifications is also to set the car up for the subsequent stages, that way you’re not constantly running into limitations as you’re tuning.
      As far as the boost controller, the higher you push the boost on your OE 2-port, the less consistency and reliability you will see. These days a good 3-port is recommended to be thrown in during the first tune, making the tuner’s initial job easier (especially if they have preset tables) and setting the car up for realistically any boost level you would ever throw at it.
      In a sense this is a Marketing video for our products, but it's also a show of what well-made performance products can do to a Subaru and what people can expect to see out of their cars as they take similar modding paths. There are a 1000 ways to build up your STI, this is just an example of one popular configuration. Thanks!
